I've encountered a small and niggling bug that hits at random. When I hit enter [this should be a new line], it doesn't go to the next line automatically, though it looks normal in preview mode, and the post view mode. Do I have to manually put in < br > tags? or not?

I dunno whether this is a bug or a quirk, but watch this:

If you can read this, you deserve a cookie

That's my old sig. Not recreated, but just my backup of the html coding copy/pasted in. At first, it just results in a weird long broken link, but one edit to the post makes it show up properly! Also, Wherever applicable, my html format magically turns into the new tag coding whenever I go to edit the post again. Where not applicable, it just shows up as it would otherwise.

However, with continued editing, some things not rcreatable with the tag coding keep altering themselves to the wrong thing, presumably as the software attempts to convert html code it doesn't recognize into tag coding which it isn't actually equivalent to. So this may prove hard to attempt to take advantage of....

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

yea, i had the above "bug" aswell, but somehow, it vanished again...

speaking about things vanishing:

why are all faq topics since 5.0 got started moved to the password protected shs?

for me (as a comon user) it makes no sense to move faq topics to a section nobody reaches...

are'nt they kinda useless then?

to be a little precise:

there was a faq started a few days ago on some basics that can be done with the new code, and about 24 hours later, it was moved to the shs where nobody can access it...

That article was moved to the SHS forum by cheese89 because it was inacurate. It will be back when it is fixed.

The themes other than Simtropolis don't appear correctly in Firefox. Hopefully this is being worked on (along with the other thousand bugs...make sure you get sleep, Dirk)

No, it's not just Firefox, it is on mine too! For some odd reason, only Simtropolis's theme works for me. I'm sure he'll fix it in a few weeks.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a design flaw, but in the profile page, the answer for the secret question is displayed as normal text. If the secret question is for security purposes, shouldn't the answer to the question either be blank or filled in with *******'s like the password field?

Just curious.

Not sre if this was figured out yet or not, or if this even helps...but I have noticed that this problem occurs when there are pics in the thread...pull up a thread that has no pics and it works just fine. It also works just fine, regardless if there are pics or not if you hide the left side bar.quote>

This is an Internet Explorer bug and no amout of fiddling will solve this. It is related to the crappy float model of that browser, and no amount of tweaking, short of cutting off the entire side of the forum or adding scrollbars on the bottoms of image posts will solve that.

My advice, please, please, please don't use Internet Explorer.

EDITED on account of unholy link syntax

thetorpedodog: okay, IE is poorly/sloppily written. My experience with it has shown this to be true. Which browser would you recommend?

I haven't had too many difficulties with Firefox...

If you don't like FF, then try Opera (since it's now free).

@north country dude: I love your sig...

No, it's OK if it appears with normal font. It's not like a normal password... but then again it is. Anyways, it's fine if it is in normal text. 44.gif

I just report the bugs I've encountered.
First bug, when I post my City Journal, I somehow, get some strange codes like this! (an excerpt from my CJ https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=70215&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=9 2.gif

(Chairman of Metropolitan Assembly A)
Zanonean Republicans are to be admitted on ffice:smarttags" />lace w:st="on">laceName w:st="on">Qinglongdao3.giflaceName> laceType w:st="on">Island3.giflaceType>3.giflace>. Agreement has been reached!

Why do I get this lacename or whatever? Even if I edit, I can't get rid of it.
The second bug is my signature.... Japanese characters, they used to work on Simtropolis 4.0, but as you see, not anymore. Why step backward?

I've noticed that in IE you don't have the quick reply mod.. you have to use the pop-up window version.. and in OPERA i don't have an option to quick reply nin the tpic tools.. the quick teply mode is already "open" at the bottom of the page, under all the posts... weird...

did you happen to create your journal entry in Word, then cut and past to the BB? i had this problem with the old BB system, as well.
i got rid of it by cutting and pasting the entry from Word, opening notepad, pasting it there, then cutting it yet again, and pasting in my post.
hope that helps ya out.

Hi Dirk nice work on the new STEX it looks slyck and works fast. 44.gif
I know u guys still working on it but just to let you know I have discovered that when you search for the phrase "beach" it causes an error:
The argument AUSERID passed to function fGetBadge() is not of type numeric.
This bug also occurs when viewing quite a few files.

A couple examples

tchaos713: Just to let you know, I'm trying Firefox now and have found many more features on this site that were hard to find before, like this Quick Reply, for one. Still trying to get FF to integrate with Star Downloader and find out if attaching files to messages was a browser proplem.

Thanx for the compliment on my sig, saw it on a t-shirt once and found that it applies pretty well to technical theatre as well as computer applications.

ok 1) it appears the bunnies have goten back into the system: bunny.gif2.gif 2) It appears that sometimes if a new topic is responded, and someone replies, it still shows up as 0 Replys on the Forum Page, but the Last Responder shows up correctly. I've seen it a couple times now in various forums....

Yeah...I'm really having trouble getting newlines to appear at all. This is like 4 enters down. Editing doesn't help. EDIT: The attatch code menu isn't doing what I used to do either. When I first used it, it simply added stuff to the end of my post, not that code box thing... This is a new paragraph. I second what Anung Mwka said: in fact I've seen a thread at -2 replies.

Found a bug with the STEX - I know some issues are still being worked out with the exchange, but I don't think I should be able to edit / lock / delete someone else's files on the STEX. I am not an admin of Simtropolis so technically those would be admin options. This might be something you want to look into, could cause a few problems! 46.gif

While posting, I can't seem to increase the text-size by anyway!! Also I can't colour any text!

Have these options been permanently removed??

A little problem with the STEX. I have 40 files there, but when I click on All my files it only lists 23. It was working fine, but now it's not. Probably linked to the search bugs that are currently being sorted.

Edit: Ok ... now it won't list any of my files 8.gif

onlyplace, you will notice this on the left side of your screen:

STEX is Back

We have relaunched the Simtropolis Exchange, please note that some odd behavior may still exist, we are actively working to solve them. If you do encounter errors, don't panic: there is a good chance that we are aware of them so please only report these errors if they persist for longer than 1 day.

- Simtropolis Admins, March 9 -

I think that should answer your question... just wait one more day.

Not that this is important or anything, but when the new site first came online you could center your signature. I came on today and it's not centered anymore. Just wanted to let you know.
