***EDIT*** FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SEE DEVELOPMENT, I DONT KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN, THE CURRENT PICS ARE GOING TO BE STREET LAYOUTS N STUFF, SO WHEN I DO GET TO THE POINT OF DEVELOPMENT I'LL POST A LINK TO THE PAGE ***EDIT***
---I have two teaser pics of historical New Haven and Historical Eastborough, page 2---

Welcome to the Metropolitan Avondale Area, Where Success Lives
map is New Haven by tf923

Current Metropolitan Avondale satellite pic (1/27/06)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The city is currently being constructed from the ground up.

This will be a simple photo and interactive Journal. By interactive, I mean that You, yes You, will have a say in the Metropolitan Avondale Area. Whenever I can't come up with what to do next, I'll ask for your opinion. If I feel like too much of my ideas have been incorporated into Avondale, I'll step back and let you plan the next step.

Okay so here is the transportation map of the city of Avondale so far.(alot still has to be done. Avenues and some highways have been laid in the pic)
1-23AvondaleRegionalTransportation.jpg a

Okay first Vote. Where should Interstate 65 and The Split I65/I20 be built.
1-23AvondaleHighwaySystemProposal.jpg al
Should I go with the Blue Line or the Green Line?
-Blue line would go thru residential areas and have close access to Down-town Avondale.
-Green Line would be a more scenic route running alone a waterway.
Whats your thoughts and reasons.

And here's where Down-town and Mid-town will be located, and proposed parks.

Build all segments except for VI. So I and II are both I-65/I-20 duplex, III is I-65, and IV and V is a 3di of I-65 (maybe I-265 or something), better suited for thru-traffic with fewer interchanges than I-65.

This is a nice start, I like the highway system, it looks great! Although I agree that VI should be left out.

I look forward to seeing more of this because its a nice start! 19.gif

It is usually a good idea to start a region with the main roads and highway already laid and this is what you have acomplished and have shown good planning skills for where your downtown areas are going to be. Can't wait for some city pictures. Keep it up!

P.S, I would go for the green line. No NIMBY (Not In My Backyard)!9.gif Then that way you can then build a highway in the northern end of the city and have a ring road which can carry traffic freely around the inner city area.

Dude, this looks great. I think we share a common outlook in city building--or at least one that is substantially similar. If I were to pick either the blue, or the green, I'd say go with the scenic green route. But perhaps you could build a cross-town expressway, in the form of a sunken boulevard, close to the blue route. That could also be adorned with greenery and pizzazz...Best of luck as you proceed.

Though it sounds complicated, I'd build II and III as I-x65 (maybe I-865), maybe as a toll road that goes through the centre of town and then IV and V as I-65.

Looks good, with respect to your thought with laying down roads. 44.gif

Your planning looks really great. I'd actually have to agree with Oroen (seeing as he's the authority on the subject of highway planning around here) and say to build I-65 along II and III and build a thru road along IV and V. The reason for this is that I-20 meets the mainline close to downtown, meaning that there will be a lot of traffic at that intersection. Creating a similar situation with the thru road by extending I-20 would defeat the purpose of the thru road. I'd actually suggest looking at an extention of IV across the river to meet I-410, seeing as the two highways would be a little close together in the south by the current scheme (not to mention the choke point where the highways meet in the south). Very nice job planning this out so far.

wow thanks for the compliments all, I like the layout too.

okay everyone seems to want to go for the green line so that is what i'll do in a few. some has also brought up keeping both lines with various ideas on that. for now i'll put in the green line and at a later time i'll come back to this.

    Responses:

@lakeyboy, Yeah I do plan on doing a loop type thing with the hyway. but at a much later time.

@storms991, I just started this cj less than 24 hours ago so thats why it hasn't been updated, I will try and update as often as possible.

@simster6, yeah I want see what development looks like too, but I'm gonna do the road layouts first and then develope too make the region look more realistic.

About the whole two highway systems, I'm gonna put in the green line now, develope the city and then do like a, like the big dig type thing like boston did on this city.

well I'm gonna go work on this region now so stay tuned....

I say cut the blue line out, and keep the whole green segment. I think that you should keep all routes to the green line as clear and traffic-free as possible, and avoid a big two-way headache with the blue line (people would be coming from both sides of the highway). With the green line, you can keep a steady but not overwhelming amount of traffic moving, increasing business oppurtunity along all your streets.

But that's just me - keep up the good work, looks real interesting so far.

I'd go with the green line also. It could still get a lot of traffic and the blue line might get in the way of development in that area if its gets big nad crowded. Just my opinion.44.gif

Okay this is what I have done tonight.

    New transportation view
    1-24AvondaleRegionalTransportation.jpg a
I need to remove some roads, also I went in to put the highway up and came across a really complicated area where the avenues weren't straight so I'll do that tommorow(I have to get up early tommorow).

Here's where cities will be and highways and rail. the rail is the gray lines
    1-24GAACitiesandTransportation.jpg alt=I

Oh and to better understand how the highway system was setup here's a zoomed out view and where the highways would be going.
    1-24ZoomedOutMap.jpg alt=Image hosting b
Avondale is somewhere up in the north of simland and is like a starting point of where important cities are.

And here's the next interactive part. I suck at naming water so please help me out.
    1-24GAAWaterNaming.jpg alt=Image hosting
I don't know what 1 would be, like an inlet, what type of water is that?

anyways I have to get some sleep, so good night all

Cool, Avondale. Doesn't look like it has anything to do with the Phoenician suburb sharing the same name, but looks great nonetheless. Can't wait for some pics of the city.

Okay here is the finished highway. it was a pain cause I had to lay it across the curves on some avenues so I had to rearrange some avenues.
    1-25Avondale.jpg alt=Image hosting by Ph
oh and I also removed some avenues too.

And my next project that is almost finished. New Haven
    1-25RestHaven.jpg alt=Image hosting by P
the center part will be the historic district and newer development will be to the NW.

And here is where New Haven is in Merto Avondale.
    1-25GAASatPic.jpg alt=Image hosting by P
The newer development of New Haven will be NE inbetween the historic area and the river.

Bat or lot or whatever it would be request.

I need some walls and a ground cover. I'm looking for a simple conrete wall, no trees or markings or anything just a simple concrete wall. and also a ground covering thing that is gravel or a railyard colored sand. here's what i'm talking about.
    1-25WallRequest.jpg alt=Image hosting by
I've searched stex for walls embankments gravel and sand and haven't found anything.

I plan on doing the layout of Glendale next so stay tuned...
