  1. Roundabout Subway Station

There are probably underground passageways so pedestrians can avoid traffic - present :)
  2. CHICAGO...As real, as it gets...

I don't suppose you'd show a photo of Davis street in Evanston or the area around the Montrose brown line?
  3. Tazious - Archeiving Realism.

Here's a suggestion for this city. Those islands in the middle, turn them into very high wealth zones. Leafy, ritzy suburbs with a tiny commercial hub filled with really pretty buildings and rife with public buildings, but raise taxes on the poor and middle class sims and lower taxes on the rich sims. Make a grand boulevard that runs through all of them, connecting them with the city, and perhaps a sunken avenue. For the grand boulevard put a light rail line running through the middle with green pedestrian tiles on each side and a one-way road on the very outside. Put enormous parks in each of the cities and have them be on this boulevard, as well as country clubs, private schools, and universities, and have the lil downtowns located just off of it.. Build walls around various neighborhoods to give them a sense of character. Shy away from public schools, go for private schools but back them up with a public high school and perhaps one elementary building of choice, but only if you think it is sufficiently pretty.
  4. Metropolitan Avondale Area

Dude, this looks great. I think we share a common outlook in city building--or at least one that is substantially similar. If I were to pick either the blue, or the green, I'd say go with the scenic green route. But perhaps you could build a cross-town expressway, in the form of a sunken boulevard, close to the blue route. That could also be adorned with greenery and pizzazz...Best of luck as you proceed.
  5. Train stations capacity

You know maybe you want to download them again. I downloaded the JENX gare du nord under as well to OSX and the station worked properly. On the other hand, the new simgoober stations had a capacity of four. So did a few others.
  6. pikatchoum! Que bella By chance are those pathways in your park available on the exchange?

  8. The elephant building *is* funny. I think I'd smile every time I saw it, if I only lived in Bangkok.
  9. Starchitect Discussion Thread

I wonder what are the engineering problems encountered? That's always embarassing. What I like about his towers is how important the interior is to the impression one may take away from the exterior. It's not just a solid wall of brick, concrete or steel with people tucked away inside, removed from view. My vocabulary for describing architecture is pretty limited but you could say that the function of the building seems to be more a part of the form than in the towers surrounding it because the people, the activity inside, is almost on display. I want to just post a couple photos of a couple of structures I find to be extremely graceful and are situated in the midst of buildings nearly a century older than them. Here's the Milwaukee Art Museum addition which was designed by Calatrava: This is the Gehry designed Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago:
  10. Starchitect Discussion Thread

There are at least a couple things I've read in the two pages since I last posted that caught my attention. I'm trying to understand, what is the alternative sort of architecture that the critics of most of the buildings posted in this thread? One of the words I caught from Louisville is that architects should look to timeless architecture. Another said Traditional Values transcend race, culture, creed, or anything else that can be prejudiced by mankind. quote> There isn't timeless architecture. There aren't traditional values that transcend race, culture, creed, etc. This is true enough of any discipline as it is of architecture and the aesthetics of cities. If it were true, that there were certain things which would be mutually agreeable to all people all of the time, practically speaking, they would be easily identifiable, and at worst, would be the common elements of some sort of nightmarish totalitarian regime. Humanity and humans are too variable to assert that the architecture featured in this thread is qualitatively different from other architecture because of reasons of taste or the appropriateness of design or their departure from agreeable aesthetics. Clearly, a movement that takes itself WAAAAY too seriously.
  11. Union City

That building is called the Turning Torso derived from Calatrava, and is available on the STEX--search Turning Torso.
  12. Small Train Station

I hate to report a problem but I have experienced the same as MacMan--the station has a capacity of one person :P
  13. Deconstructivist Mc Donalds

I've got a quick update, because I have just discovered you can enter the camera mode on the region level. Bear with me--this is only my second city so I am still learning a lot about the game. This is an overview of the transit system. You can see in the center and to the left Crawford Central Terminal, the black mass, and from there see how the rail lines spread outward into the city. You can't see the tunnels--but the gaps in between the black lines are the tunnels. The red line, broken up again by the tunnels, is the Perimeter Expressway. Currently there is one tunnel near the three-way interchange on the left of the picture. Two more expressway tunnels are planned to bring people from the Perimeter to the downtown. Finally, you can see the last tunnel, the Central Avenue tunnel, which runds underground through the diamond-shaped neighborhood that is just above the airport. Central Avenue is the main thoroughfare through the central city while the Perimeter Expressway is the bypass. Both Central Avenue and the Perimeter connect at both the top of the city, and the bottom. That's a lot of words for this tiny photo
  15. EA Wants you to buy a PC

Eh, so we don't get every single game marketed. No big loss, our computers are still manifestly of superior design
