Hi @PJKeogh and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

It is incredible how custom content transforms SC4 to provide even more limitless freedom than the standard vanilla offering. The fact new BATs and mods are still being uploaded as the community continues to actively thrive 18+ years later, really is true testament to the game's impressive longevity.

We hope you enjoy ST as a complement to your mayoral explorations.

Hello all,

New to Simtropolis, but revisiting game.  Is there a thread with suggested downloadable content, mods bats maps etc.  I am running sc4 with steam, and have no real clue as to how to get these items into the game, or which mods are best for gameplay.  Any and all help is appreciated, and links great as well as I am sure im not the first nor last to ask these questions.  Thanks everyone.

For graphical terrain mods, you could peek at These Shoppes and the following thread has a bunch of content suggestion ideas:

Thank you both for the help.  I definitely have problems getting mods and even maps into steam version of the app.  Can download files, do the ctrl alt shift R move but no rendering occurs.  I have resized jpgs to 1025 as described in some threads.  any other possible advice?

@jeeps2141

Check out @Shoarmadharma's reply here and then my reply after that. I believe the whole trouble is finding Steam's equivalent of My Documents which it buries in some asinine location. *;)

Hi @jeeps2141 and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

See whether the paths Cori linked above match yours, but I'll just post another possibility (which might be more likely if you're on Windows).

For this it'll be in the Documents location, for example my Plugins folder is at:
C:\Users\CB\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

Then for Regions it's at:
C:\Users\CB\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions

(Of course, it'll have your own computer user instead of CB for me.)

Let us know, and we're all here to help you get started.

Old player here, recently coming back here to do some occasional city building in mainly Cities Skylines and SC4 Deluxe in future. Coming back here to get some SC4 mods into it.

I've been playing SC4 since the release, but have largely left it to the dust (to the point I lost the original CDs too!) for years. But the love of city building hasn't completely died down yet. Here's to *hopefully* make something beautiful

Hi @TheElkaz and welcome back to Simtropolis. *:)

Great to hear you've decided to make a return to city building again, and thing with SC4 is it remains a timeless classic. All these years have gone by since release, and yet the community has been able to support the excellent platform the developers laid. This means we can build to even higher heights, with vast potential for expansion.

So you've made a most excellent choice, and we hope you like the site. Feel free to post in new and/or existing topics to your heart's content.

Hey y'all,

I'm DJ from BC, Canada. I'm currently a mid-twenties music student and a part-time snowboard instructor and substitute child-care provider, aspiring to be a music educator.

Got into SimCity 3000 when I was 5 and SimCity 2000 when I was 8. I figured I'd give SimCity another whirl with SimCity 4 now that I have a lot more proficiency with problem-solving and reading *;) .

I'm having a lot of fun getting into SimCity 4 and just city simulators in general, and I'm just now starting to work on regional play.

If anyone has more info on it, I'm looking for a city simulator like simcity4 that I can play with my long-distance girlfriend on a multiplayer platform. I've been trying to look for a good match. She's not very tech-savvy so it'd be best if the multiplayer came in the game.

Looking forward to see what this site has in store

I know SimCity 4 isn't set up for that, but hopefully other peeps might know of something.

This right here will fit in ideally for the innovative mindset that city building encourages. Each city tile can be a puzzle piece of the larger jigsaw that the overall region forms. Yet inventively through our own creativity and inspiration, we can shape the way each city fits into painting the main picture.

So much potential, and we hope you enjoy the community too.

yeee. I mean, I initially meant because I'm not 8 anymore * , but I'm looking into diving into what the NAM mod has to offer too!

Hi @Aurel and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

That sounds really cool how you've heard great things about the community already.

Also if ever you wanted to post about the city builder you're working on, feel free to open a topic in the City-Building Games forum to showcase your progress. This is a site where anything about city building fits into discussion after all, so you've certainly just joined the ideal place.

Hello community,

I'm Aurel, a french city-builder enthusiast, I've been recommended your community by my coworker. He told me you have very interesting conversations around, especially on the Discord. Here's a bit more about me and my intentions to bring to the community.

That goes without saying but I'm a huge fan of simulation games, in particlar citty builders.
I received SimCity on super Nintendo for my 8th birthday but had no idea how this would shape me for the future. I then played to all SimCity versions. I know I'm probably part of a minority but I also loved the 2015 version and have a ~700h playtime on it.
I also enjoy a lot a good roller coaster tycoon, Factorio, or a game of OpenTTD (only played a couple of times).

I've also been a software architect for a dozen of years now, and it turned out I started to work on my own city builder. I won't cite the name here, it's no place for self advertisement ;)
But yeah that means I'm up to chat about gameplay and mechanics with you all. If some are interested in the future we (the game development has a team of 5 now) would be down as well to offer beta keys and brainstorms about players expectations, desires and motivations in a such game.

Thanks for readin, see you around!
Aurel.

Welcome aboard!

Everybody here knows everything about SC4!

Except me...I know mostly about New York history. *:D

Welcome to Simtropolis!  I used to do software architecture, too, with a focus on requirements, integration, and data architecture.

Always happy to chat about gameplay mechanics.  :ooh:  That could be a good topic thread; you'll likely find others here would be interested to engage in those sorts of conversations — what SC4 does and how, and why, and how to make it do what you want.

Here's one post of mine on SC4 economic gameplay, I've other posts along those lines, too.

SC4 is surprisingly well designed, though it has many well-known flaws, too.  A lifespan of 20 years is highly irregular, and there's very good reasons why SC4 has had such a long run.  Shorter-lived systems tend to shoot themselves in the foot, one way or another, often by trying too hard to be better.  Are you familiar with the "gold plating" anti-pattern?
