It is meant to be a place where it's easy to reply and quick to receive answers, instead of opening a new topic each time. For example, to ask about keyboard shortcuts, how to use a cheat command, or game versions like between a patched and unpatched game. Maybe even a post someone made for a gameplay tip.

That said, we very much encourage members to open a new topic for asking anything which might lead to a discussion, or a sequence of replies on the same subject. That way it allows people to find topics when searching for particular questions.

No, not really.  This has been somewhat of a pain point for doing this sort of work until very recently.  Previously we got by with either storing an unhealthy amount of hexadecimal IDs in our brains, or we'd run override texture sets that had "burned in" IIDs in our plugins, or we'd reference the network code, or peek into the texture dats to find what we needed.  Nowadays, however, we just use this excellent query DLL which is able to tell you what the ID of a network tile is.

I apologize if it sounded like I was being pushy or demanding with my post. I just thought of gently, again sorry if I sounded otherwise, bumping the topic as he did say he'd try to work it in this week because his schedule was already swomped last week.

Incidentally though when I weeded out the Iberiada Sets 1 & 2 of their .SC4Lot and .sc4desc files, instead of getting 61 total files as you noted, and as I manually counted them, Windows explorer keeps reporting that there are 62 files *:???: I repeatedly counted them and each time I'd get 61, same as you, but when I pull up Windows' file explorer's "Properties" viewer it keeps telling me there are 62 files. I'm currently on my phone now but I'll log onto my PC later to post up a screenshot.

That's strange. I wonder if it's counting the folder they are in as one those?

I do that from a Command Prompt in the Folder and then do:

dir *.SC4Model /on > FilesList.txt

and then edit in Notepad++ to block remove the extraneous parts.

Unfortunately I can not get this .dll to work on Win 10 pro 64 bit  on my desktop or Win 11 Pro 64 bit on my laptop .

I added the MS Visual C++ Redistributable and tried full permission on all folders in fact the whole C: drive with no luck.

The .dll dose write the log: SC4QueryUIHooks v2.3.1 Installed the query UI hooks.

Pressing shift+CTR+ATL will not bring up the information not sure why.

Okay so I moved out each of the 61 .sc4model files, 30 from set 1 and 31 from set 2, and just moved each one up to a "Set x" (1 or 2) parent folder. And deleted the many, individual unnecessary folders with set 1 having one each for each individual variant as opposed to set 2's every variant in ten folders, so that there are only just three folders for Windows to look at. A main "Iberiada Sets 1 & 2" models folder and one each for set 1 and 2. And now Windows explorer correctly tells me that there are exactly 61 files now. Strange, odd quirk *:???:

The advanced network query works the same way as the Maxis advanced building/lot query. You have to hold down Control + Alt + Shift before hovering over a network piece.

I have done this before after during and no luck on buildings or network piece.

It looks like none of the keyboard shortcuts listed in the readme are working

I took all my other .dlls out and still not working.

I updated the SC4ResourceLoadingHooks v1.0.1 from v1.0.0

These .dlls are pretty simple to install. not sure what went wrong or what i am doing wrong.

I do have this error from one of the other .dlls

SC4DisableFpsLimits v0.1.1
Attempting to overwrite memory
Disabled the FPS limits during simulation.

It does log the building path when this is set to true

Installed the query UI hooks.

In this precise order, press ? on your keyboard (shortcut for query tool). Make sure the cursor is NOT on the tile you want to query, press and continue to hold the Shift + Alt + Ctrl keys, move the cursor over the item you want the advanced query for at no point letting go of the modifier keys.

Foolproof way of ensuring we are on the same page. Note you might want to use the on-screen keyboard in Windows just to check you can use all three modifier keys without anything weird happening.

If that doesn't work, given we know the DLL has loaded, all I can suggest is that your keyboard (or any software that came with/creates shortcuts for it), might be blocking the correct function. For example if some app/etc used this as some sort of shortcut?

I did remove the force full screen .dll and the on screen keyboard will still not let the game load

STUPID WINDOWS!!!!

I had trouble with the Query Tool UI dll too until I installed the extra cheats dll. Try installing the extra cheats dll (if you don't have it already) then try the Control + Alt + Shift advanced query.

I wasn't using it playing SC4, I just added it as a layer to the video (it's faked!) as I thought it gave a really clear idea of what to do. Anyway, it seems we are on the same page and the problem lies elsewhere so that's something.

Step one, verify if you can activate all three modifier keys at once in Windows (without any games), the on-screen keyboard is a nice visual confirmation for this.

If that works, why aren't these commands being passed to the game?, that's the question. This sort of thing should be handled by DirectX, I know of mouse issues running Win10 (MMPs move two 'steps' at a time with only a single mouse click). A fix for that involves using a wrapper for DirectInput to provide legacy compatibility. There are also issues with SC4 if certain languages are used in Windows or for Keyboard input, but if you are using the default US English, I doubt that's your problem.

As @jimbo_rockford mentioned, the Control + Alt + Shift advanced/debug query shortcuts currently require the extra cheats DLL to function. The game code that activates the advanced/debug query mode when those keys are pressed was written to return false if the internal debug mode is not enabled.

I never noticed the issue because I always use the extra cheats DLL.

Thank you all. That is what it was i installed the extra cheats DLL and it works great.

Hopefully you can add that as dependency.

I was beginning to think i didn't know how to work my keyboard.

I already did for the STEX description.

I am considering performing the key combination check myself instead of calling the Maxis code, which would remove the extra cheats DLL dependency. In that case, the extra cheats DLL would only be required for the Maxis advanced building/lot query.

I presume it's the UIEditor 0.5 on the STEX. I've never used it before, but I just downloaded it and it's ok on Win10.

I seem to recall CB saying the UI Editor in Reader 1.5.4 is more advanced.

Personally, I simply edit in the text source code using Notepad++.

And yet, I'm not able to understand what are the functions of the buttons on the 3rd column? To make things even worse, it can't handle extremely large UI for my own project, while even the ancient Reader 0.9.3 can. Both don't have enough function to work at such resolution however. That's why I'm seeking for better tools.

They should use ToolTips, meaning if you hover the cursor over them, a short explanation pops up. Not really sure any of it is documented anywhere, there isn't an official readme.

I guess the question that really matters is what are you trying to do? There are tutorials for creating/editing UI files, maybe that's a better place to start?

@PropfamI confirm what CB (and Cori) says, it is clearly more reasonable (while waiting for a new app - we can dream no!?) To use Reader 1.5.4 .. Advice: make some modifications, save, close the .dat file and open it again, continue your modifies, etc ... 1.5.4 is "furiously" unstable !

I've downloaded all three sets (two original and the relots) and it certainly looks like you do not need the .sc4lot nor the .sc4desc files from the original two sets.

So, a question for @Tyberius06 whenever you have a chance: What about having a third download option for the Iberiada Set 1 and 2 which is just the 61 model files? I've made a zip of them and it's about 20 MB. If we do that then the relots can reference that as the dependency without peeps having to get both full sets and then figure out what all to delete.

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove a landfill with garbage? Not by slowly reduce the garbage but direct bulldozing it

For complex reasons that cannot be done. Well, maybe with a fancy DLL, but otherwise peeps use the Landfill Eraser Mod which'll make the garbage evaporate very quickly. Once it's gone, you can then dezone the landfill.

I have spent the better part of my morning trying to locate all the horse sounds/fauna sounds in livereader.  I could not find one.   Yet i enter the game and zoom in, and under my trees, it's all I hear - almost as if they are mocking me, knowing my intentions.   Is there anyone out there that's significantly more skilled at this who could potentially silence these horses and wildlife?  Thank you!

The easiest way to browse the exemplars that I know of is using the Exemplar Analyzer in tree view, all the fauna is grouped under the Fauna category of Flora & Fauna.

Here is an override that removes the SFX:Occupant Instance Sound property from all of the game's default fauna. SilentFauna.zip

Also, most of the landfill data is for some reason hardcoded. I stumbled across many problems when I tried to make a landfill mod and some things simply couldn't be done at all!

Ok, but on to my question - how do some of you guys make these fancy maps out of your cities and regions? I see some of them in the city journals. I even remember someone made an entry on how they make it but I can't find it anymore...

The "SimCity 4" vanilla Opera House is the most evil thing in existence. Avoid.

Somewhere. You can use special Apps to convert geological data into a greyscale image. With the right adjustments in GIMP/Photoshop etc, you can then make that suitable for import with SC4Mapper/SC4Terraformer.
