How to put a .gif in the post?

Silly question, but I can't seem to figure it out. 

When I use the URL, the image does not appear.

When I try to copy-paste it doesn't move.

When I embed it, there is only link and no image.

So? How to do it?

Once uploading the GIF image, try clicking the Insert button like so:
 

 

Other GIFs which are hosted externally should embed automatically to resolve as images, but perhaps if they're of a very large size (such as over 2 MB), the board software considers these as too big and links them instead. If this is the case, let me know and I'll try and work some HTML editing magic for you.

Hmm, it's just about 200kb. Should work, but it just freezes when I insert it. 

Unless it just freezes in the edit window but works in a submitted post...

EDIT: Correction, it's 2.9mb when uploaded from disk.  I prepare another "Saving Magnasanti" episode and wish to add a .gif that really fits, so if you could indeed make a one-time exception, it would be great!

Sounds good then, and I've granted you extra storage permissions which should allow you to upload up to 500 MB total and 4 MB per image.

Of course, we do recommend using JPG images usually, but for a GIF animation it's perfectly fine. If there was a need to have an image larger than this, as admins we can upload files directly to the server. In this case, let us know via PM and then we'll get that arranged.

Thank you! I'm not the kind of person who likes to force their way through any rules, so I really appreciate the back door. 

I'll just try to upload that .gif from disk again and if not, I'll just skip it. Not a must-have!

Is there something wrong with imgur?  I'm not seeing anything from there, even when I go to the site directly......

Edit: well, wait, the link didn't include the extension for some reason when it opened, when I added it manually it showed up.   The embedded gif does not show up on simtropolis though

Using Firefox and I see the image here in the thread as well as clicking on the linky to go to imgur. That at least shows their site isn't down.

I'm on Seamonkey and for some reason all the sudden images from imgur aren't showing up on simtropolis... I noticed it on a @korver post earlier

Okay, deleting imgur cookies did the trick... weird....
