Hello. This is where I will be posting updates, releases and general support for the various automata packs I have been releasing.

A lot of my packs will be UK-orientated, as there was a lack of that niche of content for SimCity 4 which led me to making some of my own, but will never be exclusive to just that. I am open to requests for specific automata, however there is not a defined timetable for when things get made. This is a hobby first and foremost, and keeping it interesting means sometimes switching to another request or a personal project to keep things from getting stale.

REQUESTS

To request an automata, please make a post with the following information:

The name - The most important part, to help me search for more information/references without needing to hunt around.

A photo/link to references - If you wish to see a specific livery, or just to give a general idea of what type of automata will be made.

The preferred network - Networks are defined as Rail (Passenger or Freight), El-Rail, GLR, Subway, Monorail or HSR. If it's not specified then it will usually just be released as a Rail automata.

REQUESTED

- Class 387 Electrostar - Tyberius06

- Class 43/Intercity 125 - Morgan R

- '4-4-0'/'0-6-0T'/"2-8-0" English steam locomotives - Morgan R

- Bombardier TRAXX BR 145 (DB Cargo version)  - Bobelboy

- Aeroliner 3000 - Terring

- Coradia iLint  - Terring

- Streamlined locomotive - Terring

- Class 158 - Tyberius06 and RSC204

- GVB Metro M5 and RET Metro Combi Type SG3 - Ssaidd

- 100/200/300 and E3/E5 Series Shinkansen - art128 and Ke|is

- SJ Rc - Oidaas

- Seibu 001 Series "Laview" - Odainsaker

PERSONAL IDEAS

- Class 15x single-car track-checkers

- Hybrid versions of Class 91, A4 Pacifics, HSTs, Aeroliner 3000

- UK Freight Pack 2: Car transporters, steel carriers, short tankers and hoppers

- UK Freight Pack 3: Intermodal transport/container freight wagons

WORKS IN PROGRESS

- Class 91 refresh + Mk3 Coach

- Class 156 refresh

- Class 37/40

- Class 08/09 (animated)

REQUESTED

- GWR? (need type) Tyberius06

Hi @dragonsteincole!

Thanks for taking my request.

First I would like to thank you for the nice new rail automatas!

I found these wiki links which might be helpful for you. These contain deatils about the rail cars, the appearence (where they usually can be found), there are images as well:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_387

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_165

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_158

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_800 - I think this one is kind of a highspeed rail, so it could be a Monorail/HSR automata (monorail is the base MAXIS network type)

Images of GWR railcars

Bonus, here is the link for the Scotrail types what @Whte_rbt requested:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ScotRail_(National_Express)

I hope, these will be helpfull.

Thanks in advance!

I have just released the Network SouthEast EMU!

These were the first files I started working on, as I've wanted to recreate some of the rolling stock and trains I used to see local to me in the 90s.

    4pRiTYq.png

@Tyberius06 Thank you for posting. I will probably work on just one of those suggestions at firstso as not to burn out doing a lot of one livery. I'll probably go for the 165 Networker as it has a different enough 'face' to stand out first.

For the Scotrail train, there is a big difference between the old Scotrai lliveries, and the more modern ones. If you could narrow it down a bit further to something then I should be able to work something out :)

@juguesal Thank you for posting, this looks simple enough so I will add it to the list. I am hoping to work in the order these are requested so I may not get around to it immediately, but I will work towards this as best I can :)

    Hi,

really nice work so far. And I think you can clearly see that there absolutely is demand for what you do on here. I'm playing a more or less German city but I somehow do have a weakness for British trains - so I will use your latest creations from time to time, I guess.

Do I understand it correctly that you would take requests for other trains and also model them? Then I might have two and a half in mind. Apart from that, I will enjoy following your work, whatever it will be. *:thumb:

I am taking requests to make/model trains for SimCity 4. :) I hope to work through the list as I get them, so feel free to make a request, if you could provide the name/class and a photo of the train in question, I would give it my best

Fantastic work so far! And thank you for taking requests. Since your specialty so far is British rolling stock, here is the historic British rolling stock that I consider most conspicuously absent from the available content for the game (please don't feel the obligation to tackle it all):

    • vintage passenger coaches in the liveries for the old big four railways ca. 1923-1947:
      • LNER: varnished teakwood version (see reference images here and here )
      • GWR: any of the "chocolate and cream" 1920s-30s versions (see a full overview here (including color references here) with other reference images here )
      • LMS: "crimson lake" version (see reference images here ) or Coronation version
      • SR: "olive green" or "malachite green" version
    • As already requested, the Class 40 diesel (or alternatively, some other early diesel with a similar appearance such as the Class 55 "Deltic"  ), in BR Blue livery
    • InterCity 125 with BR Class 43 locomotives  in the "Executive" InterCity (grey & yellow) and/or "Swallow" InterCity liveries (numerous examples of each found here ) (and, optionally, any more recent liveries you find interesting: see this page for a complete list of HST liveries).
    • And though you noted you don't do steam, as it is still on my "very missing British rolling stock list": a pair of generic late-19th/early-20th century British-styled steam locomotives (a 4-4-0 passenger locomotive and an 0-6-0T and/or 2-8-0 freight/"goods" locomotive), in various railways' liveries. If you or anyone else actually are interested, I can expound upon this suggestion in much more detail (with references) if you would like.

If you have any interest in things further abroad beyond Britain, I do have some other ideas.

Thank you so much for your consideration, and best wishes on your work!

That's wonderful, thank you very much. I have no doubt that the results will be great!

So here is my first request: Bombardier TRAXX BR 145 (DB Cargo version). This would be a locomotive for freight trains:

    DB-Cargo-BR145-2.jpg.18dd7554532a74616a02a2efe5557650.jpg

    Here a model:

Here more information on the product platform (for dimensions etc.): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRAXX

I see that your "order book" already is quite full. But it would be nice, if you might consider this too sometime in the future. *:D

I have just released the Southern (GTR) EMU!

They fit in well in downtown/suburban settings as dark roof/light roof versions, or running with a mix of both.

    yHFWzmZ.png

    0Rh3AOA.png

@WolfZe Thank you for commenting! I will add that to the list

@Morgan R Thanks for commenting! I agree there is a lack of British train automata around which is why I'm making my own. As for the recommendations, I would be tempted most by the Class 43, as with the Class 91/DVT i'd like to get some Intercity liveries done at the least, and then 1 or two variations for each.

I can certainly try and make some coach models at some point.

I'm currently pondering the Class 40, as visually it's very similar to the Class 55, and the Class 37, with the latter having more liveries that could translate well into game (ala the Class 33), so i'm not sure which one to pick over the others.

As for the steam trains, i'm not sure of what my limitations are in modelling them, and also i'm unsure of how their animations work, so if there is any resource available on that, it'd be most welcome, and could open up more opportunities in the future.

@Bobelboy Thanks for commenting! I'll add this to the list. :)

At this point I will not be closing requests, and people are free to continue requesting, but consider that the list is growing quite long so there will not be a quick turnaround for these.

@dragonsteincole The Class 37 would be fantastic, and a worthwhile substitute for the Class 40 or 55, and especially if you can find the most liveries for it (the Wikimedia Commons page has some 18 different livery categories for images of it). With a bit of research, Wikipedia notes the Class 37 was the most numerous of the three at 309 units, used for mixed-traffic (and is still in limited use today); the Class 40 was 200 units, used for mixed-traffic, but went out of service in the 1980s; and the Class 55 had only 22 units for passenger express service, but was the pride of the fleet until being retired at the start of the 80's. So for a single model usable for both passengers and freight, the Class 37 would seem most versatile, followed by the Class 40, and then and the Class 55. Otherwise, I myself have no preference between them (and don't know which would be easier to model and texture). Any of those would help folks transform their region into the iconic era of 1960s Britain (assuming their towns and villages survived the Beeching Axe, that is...)

I have just released the Class 91 Pack, including Intercity 225 and LNER Mk4 Carriages.

This is one of the larger packs released, as it features three trains, and two sets of 4 and 3 carriages.

@Morgan R It's modeled on a Class 08 but it could easily be a 09/10/11/12 either way. I chose the 08 because there are just an abundance of liveries for those classes.

@Terring Fictional/high-tech/futuristic trains would be accepted, but would require more visual references to be provided by whoever requests them.

@Whte_rbt I can add the Glasgow Subway train to my list, I think the 'camo' livery would stand out well.

Working on the first Scotrail request, and in the process i've been tweaking the carriage model that these have been based on. There were some small things I'd noticed, like texture mapping issues, or flat surfaces having a lot of polys, so I've fixed those, and remodeled the gangway/connector ends. This should result in a lower-poly count overall without changing the look.

Edit: Nightlighting example, adding some depth to the nightlighting.

In follow up to the earlier discussion of the Class 37 diesels, I had some thoughts on the specific liveries I think are more prominent and would like to see for the class (if you choose it). I went for chronological variety, as the class has been in service for almost 60 years now(!), and seems to have been a solid workhorse throughout that time period.

    • Both passenger & freight:

      • British Rail Green (references here) - for the 1960s

      • British Rail Blue "Large Logo" version (references for all BR Blue here) - the "large logo" version likely translates better to the small scale of SimCity than the earlier small-logo version.

    • Freight:

      • British Railfreight "Triple Grey" w/ Sector Logo (references here) - the most logical for the freight trains found in the game would be the "General" (i.e. multi-sector) or possibly "Distribution" sector logos:

        • railfreight_sub_sectors-svg.png

      • England, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) maroon w/ gold stripe (references here) - for the late 1990s-2000s

      • either the Europhoenix (references here) or Colas Rail Freight (here) livery - for the 2010s-present

Some other useful or interesting ones might include British Rail blue "small logo" version (used for both freight and passengers in the 1970s), BR InterCity (here) to go with the coaches you have already made, and the BR Railfreight "Red Stripe" (large logo) grey (references here) livery.

Thanks you again for the trains and for asking for ideas!

EDIT: here is a better image of the Class 37 (admittedly a model) in the "general" sector livery, as well as a few others that may be of use.

The Class 37s is probably going to be a big collection for the sheer number of different liveries it could use. Having looked over the references kindly provided by Morgan R, and with some of my own looking around, I'd like to make the following:

    BR Green

    - All green, split headcode

    - Yellow ends, split headcode

    BR Blue

    - Yellow ends, blank headcodes

    - BR Big Logo version

    Intercity

    Regional Railways

    Railfreight

    - 'General'

    - 'Red stripe'

    EWS

    Europhoenix

    Colas Rail Frieght

    Direct Rail Services

    Loco Haul

    I have just released Class 156 - Pack 1.

I am still working on the other ScotRail request, but I decided there was no advantage to waiting to release these Class 156s. I've labelled this 'Pack 1' as i'm sure there will be similar packs released in the future.

I have also been updating the descriptions for the other mods, adding installation instructions and generally tidying up/clarifying some information. No other changes have been made so no need to redownload.

Work was a little slower due to some other projects away from SimCity, but progress is being made on the current WIPs. The Class 380 cab above is quite a complex shape but I think i've made a good approximation with it. And any crimes can be hidden with the texture.

    IwAC7cK.png

The Class 08 is progressing well too. Still to complete the texture but having fun along the way.

Hello, dragon. You've made a great job with your trains. Here are the trains I'd like to suggest.

Aeroliner3000, a double-decker train proposed by architect Andreas Vogler for the UK railroads.

    successful-partnership-for-the-aeroliner

    new-ideas-for-the-british-railway-system

    3053826-inline-i-2-how-to-future-proof-a

Coradia iLint, the very first hydrogen powered train in the world, that entered into commercial service in Germany in 2018. Unlike the above train, this one is only made by two engines-wagons, so I don't know how you can bring it in SimCity, if you want to and if it's possible of course.

    %C2%A9%20Ren%C3%A9%20Frampe_20180916_evb

P-Track, a concept about a new transportation system in USA, that combines the accessibility of cars with the environmental efficiencies of railways, by utilizes personal rapid transit units that work like taxi-train hybrids. The train stations of SimCity continuously deploys small track checkers, so I wonder if it's possible to replace them with these:

    ptrak_01.jpg

    ptrak_02.jpg

    ptrak_04.jpg

    ptrak_05.jpg

    ptrak_06.jpg

And there is one last train I'd like to suggest, this one designed by the American engineer Jacque Fresco. I don't know if this train has any name at all (so feel free to give it any name you wish), but its simple design could have made it a great replacement for any kind of train, even for the freight ones. Industries might want faster trains to ship their products, I guess. And since this train has an engine, wagons and a reverse engine, you might want to replace the steam train with this one, just like what TGV Duplex does.

    tcio4.jpg.eca97b03d26038575887a6256fa882ad.jpg

So, what do you think? Do you like my suggestions? Of course it's your topic and your project, so the choice is yours. Keep up with your good work *:thumb:

@Terring I'm quite happy to give those a go, they all look varied enough to be made.

A request to anyone in general - are there any 'train generators' in the style of the Passenger or Freight Generators for other networks, such as GLR or Monorail/El-Rail/High-Speed Rail? I don't think I have a way to consistently generate trains for testing for these networks.

I don't know about train generators specifically but could a similar effect not be acheived by cranking up the number of automata during the NAM install? Or is it building a custom NAM controller that does this?

It's not exactly one of my prettier screenshots, but I managed to edit the existing Train Generators to work with the Monorail and Elevated Rail. These should allow me to test other routes and automata in the future.

I have just released the Class 380 in ScotRail livery!

Quite pleased with this one as the front is very distinct, and it translated well into the angle seen ingame. I was afraid it would end up looking too similar to the other models but I was proven wrong. :)

Thank You for the Continued Support!

Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!
