Devotion has a temporary download page while their LEX is offline. Since I'm not a member I can't tell what it looks like, but I assume they have someplace to request files. In an effort to assist peeps looking for files, @Cyclone Boom and I have created the following cross reference list.

The idea is to help when you are searching for something listed in a post or ReadMe file and all you know is the lotGet= number. Use Ctrl+F here to search for that number and then you can see what the LEX file entry title is. (It won't always match the download file name exactly, but it should help when requesting a file.)

This will come in handy, Thanks for making this. Think about making this part of the Omnibus.

    Sounds good to me.

There were like 21 file names that got saved with some foreign language characters and for my quick list I simply deleted those characters so the Dos FindStr command I used to parse out just the file name and URL would run without said Dos having a conniption fit. CB said we can manually rename those so the list above will get updated. Once that's fixed I'll leave it to @catty-cb to create the Omnibus article for it and then I can paste in the table code (which she can maintain from there on if she wants to).

Note: CB and I have not personally made any plans to keep this updated once the LEX is back online and new files are uploaded. Our goal here is simply to help out during Devotion's current predicament. *;)

    Update:

We've now corrected the 21 file names which were truncated due to having obscure characters in the page titles.

These have been updated to be suitably named, and in some cases matching what the corresponding zip archive is. For any titles which included a (v1.0) in their names, for neatness of clarity these are now removed from being listed, leaving those which have a higher than 1.0 version number. This means to search for newer versioned LEX files in the list using Ctrl+F and it can be done using the term (v and using Enter for skipping to the next.

Additionally the table has now also been centred, and includes jump up/down links for quick navigation.

Again, we hope this might be a useful community resource, especially while the LEX is down.

Thanks I haven't added anything more into the omnibus in the last couple of days as it seemed a good idea to try and come up with a set of categories for it, currently this is what I'm thinking for the indexes

    Index List
     - Custom Content
     - Exchanges
     - Formats
     - Games
     - Miscellaneous
     - Themes

The "custom content" and "exchanges"  I think most people will know what I mean, the "formats' for anything like the occupant groups, etc, "games" for all the maxi (buildings) and "themes" for any list someone has done ie Paeng did a list of everything needed to do a coal mine and I think there is a list in the forums for  sci-fi buildings that sort of thing and "miscellaneous" for anything that doesn't fit anywhere else.

Hey @CorinaMarie is this why Cleanitol download links never work anymore?

Trying to organize a fresh plugin folder for a side project. I have to say, I find the standard download format on the LEX to be a bit of a nightmare. Zipped archives with executable installers (which won't work on Mac without considerable effort among other things--thankfully I'm on PC these days)

Most of these installers simply drop a single plugin into the Plugin folder. Why don't they just zip the damn plugins and worst case include a readme. Grrrrr.

Also the endless list of MEGApacks by individual users with very similar filenames, the endless lists of dependencies with no attempt to combine them into a single download. The (non-functional) Cleanitol instructions for said packs to presumably remove packs prior to 2007... I could go on.

PS. I have a feeling I'm wading into SC4 modding politics here--I appreciate modders' work despite the counter-intuitive distribution of some mods...

Hiya, @rob_mtl. This one I'll have to just say I don't know. It could be server storage paths have changed over the years as sites updated or switched software and file structures.

This also occurs quite frequently on the STEX too :O

Back when all this first started the majority of SC4 players were not computer savvy and had trouble navigating folders on their comp. To compensate for that, many items were placed into those .exe installers. Then, too, at the time server storage space was at a premium so those installers were zipped up to reduce the file sizes. And for the Mac complications, most (all?) creators used Windoze and prolly never considered an OS they couldn't run tests on.

This is simply the outcome of years upon years of files being created. Prior to the MegaPacks there might be a hundred more smaller packs needed. Ofc, over time even the consolidated packs have become quite numerous.

Yep. These are the kinds of questions which polarize peeps that lead to heated arguments and then threads being locked to contain the mayhem.

Let's hope that doesn't happen this time. *;)

All eminently reasonable explanations. I do apologize for venting and certainly don't want to start a heated debate. The table you've made on this page is a great tool to locate files and I've seen a fair number of other tools out there to simplify things too!

Hehe, I didn't read this back then :D :D But totally agree. Also I re-discovered this index just now. Wooooow... I think it will make my life easier, since it contains the LEX codes, which are essential to my project. At least it contains all the LEX codes for the executables... That's awesome! :)

And to answere @rob_mtl's concerns. There is a project, what I've been doing for a while, now (parallel with other 3-4 pretty time consuming heavyweight organizing projects and NAM duties, not to mention RL duties and commitments), regarding to make the old executables simple ZIP based uploads. BUT we are talking about aprox 2000+ files just to extract, check if they need to be updated (does TE Mac "bug" ring a bell?) - I just found a 14 years old Simgoober station among my archives from STEX, which has that TE bug, not to mention the outdated dependency list and extracting, fixing, updating the readme is not a 2 minutes job. And we didn't talk about the rehosting part yet, which is also not 2 minutes/per files, and we are talking about hudreds and thousands of files. And I'm doing it only, because I lost my archives a few years ago and needed to redownload everyting, and since I like my stuffs being organized I offered, while I'm doing my own organization, I can provide this and when the time comes, they can replace the contents on the LEX. But considering that everybody is pretty busy with RL and with other more important stuffs (everybody doing all the kind of contributions for the community for free in their free time, and what we are talking about here is legacy support for people's work, who are not really around anymore), this actually doesn't have a really high priority.
For example the other day I was able to go through on 60+ files. 2 days ago I had time to do 20 files, yesterday I had headache and other things to do, so I did 10 files, but those were more time consuming, because I needed to updated the readmes too, and checking other stuffs with them. And I'm on holiday at this moment, and since due to C19, I couldn't travel anywhere I had time to deal with these. But from next week probably I won't have much time, what I can spend on this project.

It will happen eventually, but not at once, not now and I don't know when.

Hey @Tyberius06! It's really cool that you're taking the time to update and reorganize files. It's simply amazing the commitment and passion people have for modding this 15 year-old+ game! I can remember about 6 years ago playing SimCity 4 on the Macbook Pro 2010 I used in college (a faithful beast of burden that I finally gave away earlier this year--the thing still runs fine) and being essentially limited to mods that didn't use .exe files, which meant tiptoeing around anything TE to avoid CTDs! Now I'm on a PC, and have learned many tricks for organizing my mods and the like.

Anyway, keep up the good work!
