Hi guys, I'm back to SC4 after a few years and I was looking after some basic fixes and setups to run the game and its mods, but I've seen that Origin's version of the game is unpatchable (that is, can't og to 1.1.641.0), but when I see properties of game's file, it is written 1.1.641.0. How can I verify if the update was installed correctly? Should I buy GOG's version?

Another few questions:

1. Is CAM incompatible with SPAM and IRM? By the way, where can I find it?

2. Where can I find some good tutorials for building airports and ports with custom props and lots?

3. Is Cities Skylines really substituting this? Haha

Cheers!

Hiya, @soutinho. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

As I understand the whole Origin fiasco they started with an unpatchable digital version and after some pressure finally updated that to the fully patched version. If that updated one is installed it's ok to use, but never delete or uninstall it as the new download is back to being the unpatchable one. More details by @Tarkus can be found here.

For version numbers the fully patched disc version shows 1.1.640.0 and the fully patched digital versions are the ones to show 1.1.641.0

I'll leave your questions 1 & 2 for the experts. For question 3, I'll say each game appeals to different aspects of city builders. Topics which start discussing if one game is better than the other tend to go sour at some point.

  • @CorinaMarie Thanks! I've been a member of this community since I was young, but never really participated or talked, lol. Anyways,  I have just downloaded it yesterday to my computer. Nevertheless, I have it as a "gift key" I received because I had bought the shitty SimCity 2013.

You'll get better response if you ask each question in a separate thread (esp #2). Seeing that Cori has replied to an OP about Origin, many readers won't even click.

Somewhat. I use all three, but...

    •  By using SPAM, I sacrificed CAM's advanced "farming".
    •  Even after finding a revision of IRM made for CAM, I had to edit all of my downloaded custom CAM industrials to follow suit.

Skylines is its own game. each has its merits and faults. Some people play both

Digital versions don't use the patches like the CD version did. However, if you are seeing version 1.1.641.0, that should be fully patched. The easy way to be sure is to install a custom building with nitelights, if the lighting works, you know your game is fully patched. Since the 640 patch is needed for custom buildings to show lights, 641 is identical in functionality to 640, it just denotes a digital pre-patched release. Generally speaking the Origin version isn't patched, but that doesn't apply to all versions, so maybe you got lucky.

For point 2, there is a custom airports out there, the AC Functional Airports. You need to download a dozen of dependencies first. But, you'll get some airports and even heliports from the mod. For tutorials, I'll give that to the respective experts.

For point 3, of course no. Even, C:S is much more flexible than SC4. Also compared to SC4, C:S is huge leap of it. C:S is suitable who are creative and have high-spec'd computer or who have lots of money to buy currently-expensive GPUs (or graphic cards).

Also, you might want to read the site guideline first before you start active to this site. Reading my FAQ first before actively gaming is recommended. I wish to edit the FAQ but due to the exam that I must do, this isn't possible now.

    Thanks.

I use google and youtube. keywords: SimCity 4, airport. Just to see all kind of different variations is a nice tutorial on its own.

Ever had that feeling of accomplishment building a massive megatower city, only to have the sims flock to your neighbors... here's a mod for you.
Unlike the regular R.C.I, mega tower apartments  can work both shifts... sounds great right? Until you realize that they overwork themselves from the large amount of excess jobs, or flock to the few and complain of no jobs(aka the apartment ran out of money). This breaks the game if trying to get more than a decent amount of mega towers.
So... what exactly does this mod do, or incline to fix? Currently it allows the apartments to store more of the unit called "happiness", and disables the more shop complaint. Your sims can still bankrupt like normal however.
        Goal:
To increase stability of apartment economics and happiness to allow larger cities.

Before you install, make sure you have cities of tomorrow, and a program capable of opening .zip files... some mods may conflict with parts of this one.
        Mod File Description
        - "000-OFFLINE_GameMod_ScreamCon_20180907_1.00_Mega Tower Fix "
Doubles all respective apartment level happiness capacity
        Installation
        1. Pull the "000-OFFLINE_GameMod_ScreamCon_20180907_1.00_Mega Tower Fix" package file out from the zip file provided in download, and put into the packages folder located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData\Packages"
        2. Copy the package file named "SimCityDLCEP1-Scripts_287520926"  from your SimCity folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData\EcoGame", and past it into the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData\Packages".
        3. Copy the package file named "SimCity-Scripts_287520926" from your SimCity folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData\EcoGame" and past into the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityUserData\Packages".
*Note... the files copied over in steps two and three need to be the vanilla copies, otherwise the mod will not work.

        - "000-OFFLINE_GameMod_ScreamCon_20180918_1.00_Mega Tower Text Fix "... the so called "Data" package fix
Replaces the megatowers needed shop complaint with the we're okay statement
        Installation
        1. Pull the "Data" package file out from the "000-OFFLINE_GameMod_ScreamCon_20180918_1.00_Mega Tower Text Fix" zip file provided in download, and put into the "en-us" folder located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityData\Locale\en-us".
*Note... you are replacing the language file package, this is for the "English" version of the game.

        - More to come once I'm done figuring out the lama
        My Disclaimers/Notes;
        1. It may take an in game week before anything noticeable happens, the mod is rather subtle.
        2. Apartments that have gone broke, are unhappy, and unemployed, are unlikely to be recoverable with this mod. Miracles do happen though
        3. Create a backup of your city if using a preexisting one... old cites loaded up may need to have the megatower levels rebuilt to change their stats. A second load up of your city may be required.
4.These mods were created utilizing the "SimCityPak_0_4_0_0" program, and SimCity files.

One of the pictures features "Brenflakes" "Megatower Limit Increase 1.0" mod listed below. It was used along side this mod, awesome mod by the way
        https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29512-megatower-limit-increase/

        EA/MAXIS disclaimer;
"Modifying files is still experimental  and might lead to city rollbacks. There is no official statement from Maxis nor Ea about using mods, so use at your own risk."

        Enjoy

So, I haven't played in about 10 years. I re-installed the game about a month ago, which was an adventure in itself, with the windows 10 disc situation. I have spent over two weeks building my plugins folder, trying out different terrain mods and tree controllers. I've downloaded about 2gb worth of custom content, (half of that is dependencies). Many of the lots I got, I want to edit. The lots themselves and especially the properties, including cost, capacity, coverage, etc. I am pretty familiar with the Maxis Lot Editor and Plugin Manager, as I used to do a little custom editing to lots long ago. If I download a custom lot with a Lot, Model and Desc. file. I can easily do what I need to do in the aforementioned programs. Since my return, there have been many changes. Many new lots have a DAT file, which is new to me. There are new programs, namely the SC4PIM (or X-PIM) and Ilive's reader. These also are new to me and I'm struggling with them, even with the tutorials found here. I'm not very savvy when it comes to computers. I'd say on a scale of 1-10, I'm like a 4 or 5. But I can follow directions. I'm sure, given enough time, I'll get familiar with them. Let me try to get to my questions...The first thing I wanted to modify are the substations by Simmer2.

These are beautiful lots and I'd like to use them, but I want to make some changes to suit my needs. First, I'd like to make the substations Waste to Energy Plants. This will eliminate the need for landfills and power plants all over my region. Secondly, I'd like to change the cost, power output, etc. But since these are DAT files. I can't do that with the programs I am used to. I may be able to do it in the reader program, but I am totally befuddled when I try to examine these there. So, I thought I'd just relot them since I have all the props I need. Also, these questions apply to other relots I plan to do, even if I do figure out how to do these particular lots in the reader.

As I was searching the lot files here, I came across the BLaM Blank...

I decided to give these a try, but I have run into what may or may not be a problem, and I was hoping to get some clarification. So, what I did in preparation to do the relots was I copied the blank.

And I made three copies. Changing them to this...

Changing the first part of the file name, but leaving the numbers as were. But when I open the PIM, it only shows one of these. The last one alphabetically. Which is Substation_3.

I'd like to know why this is. I wasn't sure if I should change the numbers a little or get rid of them altogether. Would it matter if I named the file: DD_Substation_1.SC4Model? I'm not sure what the numbers mean or if I should even mess with them. If I leave these like this and I make say, 10 lots renaming them in like manner, will the last DESC file to load control all lots with that blank model? Another thing I notice here is the word "blank" appears under the column "Name". Is this what's going on here? If so, how do you change that? Anyways, these are the questions I have thus far. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Even more so if someone can walk me through making these changes in the reader program concerning these particular files.

There is a tonne of amazing custom content on the exchange including maps.
A lot of the maps I've installed and played are laid out in large cities only however and in a perfect grid. I prefer randomness with medium and small cities scattered about.
How can I change the config file on an existing region without messing up the existing terrain that I like?
