Hi Rogcat, welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

Thankfully the error you've found here is a known common problem. The cause of brown boxes is due to model files missing for use on custom lots. Without them installed, the game shows a box instead. Also it appears you're short of a texture from the lot itself, which explains why the blue grid is showing through.

Both props and textures are collectively known as dependencies. In other words, these are files needed for any lot to work properly when built inside the game. So as a next step here, I suggest checking the description or included readme documentation of the files. These will hopefully specify the extra content required to be placed in your Plugins folder, in addition to the lot files themselves. Most dependencies are bundled in the form of MEGA packs containing a collection of multiple props or textures.

Just be sure to run the installers on these (or extract if a zipped archive), and the contents which are usually *.dat files will be copied to your Plugins folder. Then unless there are specific requirements necessary to adjust the loading order, they can always be moved to a subfolder structure of your choice. As long as placed somewhere inside Plugins.

Hope this helps, and let us know if you'd like anything clarifying.

Hola Rogcat, bienvenido a Simtropolis. *:)

unfortunately the file does not contain a readme or something to specify additional content ...

Can you provide a link to where you obtained the file? (Such as from our STEX or Devotion's LEX.)

I Just downloaded that a couple of days ago, but haven't installed yet.  Meant to message the creator to see if I need the two or three dozen models files, or if they were included in the download.  Below that very long list is the dependencies you need, textures/props that sort of thing.  Just click on the link you provided and scroll down the page to find the list of dependencies.

    Oh, and welcome to SimTrop.*:thumb:

    @Rogcat

Thanks for the link. I've taken a look at the package and it contains subfolders for each of the authors. Inside those are individual lot files which are what make up each of the building variations. However unlike the description may suggest, there are no actual models included.

I'm afraid these must be downloaded individually as dependencies, and are linked below the "Lot Sizes" and Other "Dependencies" lists.

Copying these over here for convenience:

    Spoiler

    Lot Sizes:

    Other Dependencies:

For each of the listed buildings, check you've specifically got the SC4Model file placed in Plugins.

Those which haven't been linked, I highly suspect are included inside these 3 packs of models:

So it's looking like quite a big list of extra files required here, depending of course on how many of the restaurants you'd like to use. If just intending on using a selected few lots however, it's only those ones where dependencies are necessary. Then the others can be safely ignored without any brown boxes.

Thanks for that info CB, answers my questions I had for RR.  Thank goodness I already have a vast majority of Simgoober's and kevdan's creations.

Aha... That word "relot" should be a huge red flag whenever you're downloading mods. I don't mean that it's a bad thing, only that you probably have some hunting to do. That's because a "relot" is taking an existing lot and then redecorating, rearranging, repainting, resizing or...

Anyway, because the building already exists and could be used on a bunch of different lots (e.g. lots of various sizes, some of which may be big enough to add an eye-candy parking structure etc), the building model is almost always not included. Instead, you're told that if you don't already have it for some other lot, then you need to go get it.

That may seem like a pain now, but after you've downloaded a few mods you'll start to score "hits" on such dependencies, and then you'll be glad that further mods aren't larding your plugins folder with duplicates of commonly used and re-purposed models, props etc.

So that's a long way of saying that whenever you download a relot (or anything new and improved), expect to need a model. Note: Often the "dependency" is found as a whole mod. If you don't want that other mod whole, then you can often get away with just picking out the SC4Model file to put in your plugins, ignoring the rest. YMMV.
