Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2010

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2010 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. Make a reward bat

I want a custom reward with custom bat. But don't seem to find reward category in Plugin manager. Do I have

to use another program or there is something I don't know about plugin manager. I want to do so when I

want to replace landmark lot I could replace it with my bat model.

how to change the growstage?

Hello everybody

I would like to know how to change a grow stage of a lot. So what hardware use and how to do?

I suppose that is with the ".desc file" and with ilive reader but after, I don't know how to do?

And how to change the growstage of maxis's building too please?

nope, Growth stage is set not to the buildings them self (and Desc file describe properties of the building) but to the lots.

So, you have to

1. open SC4Lot file

2. find there Exemplar that describes Lot. Take a notice of the fact that there may be 2 exemplars - one for building and another for Lot itself.

3. in LotConfigurations Exemplar find Growth Stage property.

4. double click it and change the value to what you need/want in the Value as Text field.

Remember that you have to give values in Hex format. You can convert normal decimal values to HEX with the help of Windows Calculator

ok. Thanks a lot Simfox!! It is the same thing with maxis's building?

I have an another question too. I don't play with PLOP to avoid the problem of PLOP (sims don't take transport, don't go at job etc.), so to see grow just the building that I want, I've organize all my plugging in folders. So to see grow just the building that I want, I was obliged to use BlockAllMaxisBuilding Mod.

However, I wanted to keep maxis's building that I love using this mod in same time. So with the lot editor, I have made "save as" the maxis's building interesting. But when I play, I can't see maxis's building grow. So if someone knows how to keep maxis's building using the BlockMaxisBuilding Mod in same time, I would like to know it.

That depends on what kind of Maxis Blocker you are using, and on the way it works. There are several possibilities to keep Maxis buildings from working. One is to set a stage that will never be reached, another one is to adjust the minimum/maximum slope on which a lot can develop in a way that the lot cannot grow (i.e. minimum slope > maximum slope) ... there might be more.

It could be that the mod blocks the buildings, so no matter whether you save copies of the lots, it will not work, because the buildings on these copied lots are still the same.

Do you have a link to the mod you are using?

So let me make a summary. If I don't want maxis building, I have just to change the slope with the lot editor put it at the maximum (so 40?)?

That's quite a long method but if it works, it's great!

I want to know how I can create a lot with jobs either using another program or whatever if anyone can help with this that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just one custom Lot ingame

Hello, I've made a residential building with the Lot Editor and would like this building to be the only one available in my city.

How can I do this?

Can I make it plopable with the same functions or is it better to keep it growable?

Also, how can I change how fast it is available and how many residents can be in it?

There is a way to block builidngs so that only yours grows to do that you will have to use the Maxis Blocker Mod.

Make sure you just use the residental file though or you will have no industry and commercial in your city at all. (unless youve downloaded some)

I dont know what kind of lot you have made so i cant say how fast it will be avalible or how to change the number of jobs.

Could you give more information? The process for changing a downloaded building is diffrent from one that was made with non-downloaded in game buildings.

Also the (4x2) building I used doesn't show any information on how many residents it can house. Where/how can I view and possibly edit those?

It's only one residential building. The commercial ones can stay the same. 4.gif

Making a plopable lot with jobs can be done, it is just somewhat difficut. There are instrctions here

As far as the satges go, only having 1 building will be bad for your city. In order for the city to work right you should have at least 1 building from each stage, if you dont when your city gets to a buildngless stage there will be nothing there for it to use so nothing will grow. That will make your city stop devlopment.

The bare minimum you need to get by is 8 buildings, one for each stage. Otherwise your city might not work,

Hmm difficult,

How about the following; the building I made is growth 5. What if I "delete"(/disable?) the other buildings from 5 and up and keep the 1-4. Will the building I created automatically be the end building and never change anymore once it's build?

You need at least one stage 1 lot in order to create a functional city, as the game grows only "stage 1" lots in the beginning, and gradually moves on up to stage 8 when the city grows larger. Also, you probably need at least one R-$, one R-$$ and one R-$$$ lot, since the demand will change over the time as well. If there is no other building available (due to a Maxis blocker), it is unlikely that the game will ever try to grow something else, but of course, the usual problems, like abandonment due to commute times and such still apply. From what it sounds, you'd like to create some kind of "sandbox city" with a uniform look, this might be easier to achieve with a (non-fuctional) ploppable landmark lot. Ploppable residentials don't work properly, though, so don't waste your time to try that.

This is helping me a lot. Just a few more questions.

In the Lot Editor I don't see any 6x6 R$$$ buildings. So if I create those, and press control when I place them (only 6x6 size) I think this should skip the whole "remove other buildings" problem.

I gave it a quick try however and evene when the Lot Editor says  it's growth stage 1, it won't build in my game... Does anyone know why? The files are originally placed in the my documents/simcity/plugin folder but I've also tried placing them directly in the plugin folder of the main map (instead of my documents).

I have no idea why it won't build the stage 1 lot. :/

 The foundation is the box that appears under a building or prop when it is built on a slant. Basically, it's a retaining wall. So the building isn't hanging out/floating in the air.

It should mention it in the Plugin Manager or Lot Editor help manual, what it is at least.

nathanthemayor: cut out the spam. You should know better by now.

The foundation in the PIM is the building foundation (not the lot foundation). It is a retaining wall that is shown if the lot is not level (depnding on the foundation threshold and min/max slope settings of the lot), to avoid part of the building appearing to float in the air. Please consult the Lot Editor manual for details of this, as it explains it well.

There are two types of foundation, procedural and model. If you don't specify anything you will get the default red brick procedural foundation. Specifying nothing or deleting the foundation property will not give you a blank foundation contrary to popular opinion.

Your game won't be able to build R$$$ straight away, certain conditions have to be met before they can be built (certain proportions of R$ and R$$). As a test, try making your lot by starting with a Maxis R$ lot. If that works and grows in the game, then that's probably what the problem was.

I have had problems previously with some stage one residential growables losing their low density zone flag, but I've only seen that rarely and it is very unlikely that's what the problem is. If it is, you won't be able to see the problem from the lot editor. If you are still having trouble after trying the above test, then post your lot in a zip as an attachment to a post in this thread. Someone may be able to take a quick look at it and see if they can find the problem (if no-one else can, then send me a pm when you have posted the item here to remind me).

Gmax Model not recognized by SC4 Plugin Manager

Hello everyone,

FInally have a computer capable of pushing simcity 4 to greater limits. Have just completed by first BAT tutorial, the render was successful, the export seems successful because the file is showing in my plugins folder as an SC4MODEL File; as are three others that I believe come with it standard. The tutorial then asks me to locate the name of my file and to drag it into the subsequent RCI location however my file is not listed. There are no topics or help listings in either program to remedy my frustration. I've reinstalled the program (plugin manager) If anyone is passing by and has any answers or even suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

Lot editing and saving query

Firstly my apologies if this has been previously asked on this thread.

I was once told how to adjust the properties of a lot to allow for it to be edited and saved under a new name in LE

In effect, currently, once the building is opened in LE, there is no ability to use 'Save As'

Can someone please inform as to what program to use to edit the lot and what specific properties (I think 2) need to be deleted?

It would depend on the kind of lot you were trying to edit. Please let us know which kind of lot you are trying to do this to, otherwise it is almost impossible to help, as it could be anything.

It would be very helpful to us if people asking this kind of question said something like: "I am trying to edit the [insert lot name here - eg small police station] and ..."
