Hello everybody and welcome to the Transit and Aviation Geeks Club. There are many of us in this world... people who design systems to pile up airplane miles in order to fly in business class just because; some who (like me) obsessively collect rail transit tickets from around the world, those who wake up in the wee hours of the morning to photograph a specific locomotive bound to pass by their town, or who wait for hours in the cold just to snap a good picture of the A380.

If you fit in the description, or if you just want to hang out with like-minded individuals, here's your place.

And you... what are you into?

It's always my aim to use thoroughly the public transit system of every city I go to, though I have yet to visit all 270-odd stations of my home underground network, in London. Perhaps I should do that :P

As a person who does not have much of a choice when it comes from point A to point B (as well as a lack of disposable funds), public transport is important for me. I've been to several countries and cities that has wildly differing opinions on public transit. Not necessarily I like the way they approach it, but each city has a personality to deal with.

I am an avid mileage card user and I am into rail transport. :P

I may be the Airman (and having just returned from a vacation yesterday which involved flying) but I will use the most efficient options in getting around the region. I most always drive now that I'm in a rural part of the state but I don't mind other forms of transit at all. Sometimes I wish the next big city of Placerville had a rail option or Auburn had expanded Amtrak service.

I rode Amtrak for a little while from before I owned a car, on the Capitol Corridor running Sacramento to San Jose. Since I have family in southern California, I will use Southwest Airlines from SMF. I took a rather large collection of photos from my last trip; they will be coming soon. There was one time I had the chance to sample the Sacramento Regional Transit and while it took three times longer versus driving I managed to save $10 that would have otherwise gone to a public garage fee.

I think I would have thought five, six, seven times over before joining this club a while ago, because back then, all I really cared about was roads and driving. After finding the website Flightradar24.com, though, my interest in airplanes has increased a lot. I can now tell a 737 from an A320 with ease, and I know the ICAO codes for all three Stockholm airports!

I still don't like trains and buses though. Two out of four.

Well I'm more into train geeks if you know what is it. I like to take a complete tour of a city public transit and took pictures of the rolling stock (especially trains :P ). As for now, I almost remembered every single train operating in Commuter Line Jabodetabek lol...

Not forgot to mention, I really like Japanese emu's lol

I've known it's not too easy doing that in London, according to what I've read on the internet. Those who try it tend to face problems with their Oyster card, as the access machines think you took some strange way and went back and charge you the maximum fare for the zone. It can get quite nasty! Robert Schwandl gives his take here [link]. Not to mention that it must be quite on the expensive side... Doing that in Berlin is easy, you just need to walk in the station carrying your yearly pass. No access machines!

I can relate a lot to that! I never paid much attention to the aviation world since like one year or so back. For some reason I started educating myself on that world, on the pilots' work, on how airlines operate, on airports, the airline hubs... Now I'm the only one around my friends who care if we're flying on an B737 (which I sadly do a lot since I fly Ryanair quite regularly) or a A320.

If that sounds a bit overstretched, is because it is; I'm sort of a lesser transit nerd, mainly interested on metro (underground/subway/whichever is called) systems. I have a profile on skyscrapercity but I'm mainly restricted to comment on the Chilean forums because ST is much more fun ;p

As a metro nerd, I've spend a hideous amount of time doing mock up networks on Google earth, and indeed one of the reasons I'm not completwly happy with my current sc4 region is because of how hard would be to design a metro network for it.
