Hey it looks good, I like it, Judging by this screenshot though it seems like your bottom front window texture could maybe use a higher resolution? I can't totally tell from the canopy in the way. I really like the graphic on the side of the building though, looking forward to seeing it completed.

Thanks Shroomblaze. You are right for the texture but in game glass windows will be reflecting the light so I think it's will more or less invisible. (I hope.) I think I will create two assets for this building : W2W 2x4 and 3x4 with one side bordered by a small "park".

Unless you make the textures 2048x2048 one would not see the difference. Of course, 2048² is quite a bit too large for this building :D

We need more smaller buildings like this. Looks good. Make sure to get some roof access and roof things up there like AC units or just some junk so it's not too much of a clean box.

Yeap. I'm currently working on a quite big building - seven storey ! Amazing ! :P But definitely I prefer these lovely small boxes. And yeap : AC Units, and others things like that.

Its could be great to have fire staircaises too. But in low poly ?

Is your wife looking for a new gold pendant, or some pair of earrings ? You will find all of these things and a lot more in the "Monroe's" ;)

    d2pWSab.png

High density commercial building level 2, W2W, 4x3 or 4x4. Just a basic big box I did this afternoon. 2600 triangles.

I will do soon a corner 4x4 version. Hope you like this one !

You could probably do a fire staircase for fairly low polys....you would have to delete the end faces on your square steps of course, and use plane objects/alpha maps for the handrails, but I believe it could be done for ~500 polys, depending on how many stairs you had.

1 Suggestion for the storefront with the trees, I hope you plan on putting a tree to cover that up, are you? Cause it will look odd otherwise.

Edit: Also a tip that I like to do a lot when making textures for something, is to use the clone tool, you could clone tool those trees out and make it look like a window based on the other side and cover it up with the actual game trees so you wouldn't even notice a flat tree texture behind it.

    OR

You could also make your own tree and use that tree as a texture that perfectly fits in front of that texture and apply a nice normal map to it. I think that would be a good idea.

Those buildings look great. Just the type of buildings I like to fill in most of my commercial areas. Good job so far. And I agree those trees in the window may look odd or make the building look "flat". other than that, great job so far. That look like Sketchup you're using, am I right?

Yeap obviously I will add some trees ! I agree, it's quite odd. The shop is too flat, the green 2D-owning is quite strange. Need some work. These two new buildings are game-friendly with around 700 triangles (not polys) so I can add some details.

Indeed it's Sketchup. It's enough for small buildings. Should I do a complete tutorial to motivate others people ? What do you think ?

Clone tool ? The clone Stamp tool in Photoshop ? Could be an idea, yeap. :)

Yea the Clone Stamp Tool in Photoshop is my friend. :)

Attercap, are you planning on releasing all these buildings at once? I'm just speaking from my own personal experience, I have a found that if you post multiple things at once you get far less potential for subs. You see the featured system is partly based on ratings as well as subs. So you could get a lot of subs but never really reach the featured page in some cases, but if you get a bunch of ratings with those subs the system somehow calculates that and increases your popularity more and bumps you up closer to featured. Once you reach the featured page it can and most likely will snowball into a massive amount of subs.

I personally have found that if you post a lot of something at once that people tend to not rate your stuff or will only rate one of your things. So what happens is your ratings get spread out because someone will rate one of the items and someone will rate the other etc basically watering down your ratings and nothing ever really surfaces to the featured page. I'm not saying this is always the case though. A lot depends on the time of day you post, your following etc.

After many asset releases though I have come to realize that I'm no longer going to many items at once, maybe 2 or 3 at a time max.

Shroomblaze you are totally right. I'm not planning on releasing these buildings at once, one per week I think. (maybe I will release three buildings at the beginning, to create a "mass effect" ; and one per week after.) Actually I have six buildings which are more or less finished. More or less because I never used the asset editor before and there can be bugs with textures... and I dont know how to correctly place the building on the plot, or if I have to release two buildings if I want two different size plots of the same building :D

For the lod we need an "alpha" (namemodel_lod_a) but I dont know what it is. :D I'm a beginner.

Kek. Actually you can do so much in SketchUp :D

You don't need alpha maps unless you have parts that you want to clip, for example the air spaces in a railing.

    Kek.

you must be a wow player :)  On a side note, I really hate how quoting works on this new system. It's really hard to delete a name from a quote that shouldn't be there, like example above.

Actually I'm not, I just like this kek thing for some reason :D I was surprised when I found out its origin is WoW.

And I totally agree about the quoting! You can not even delete a quote inside another quote (quote-ception!), or edit the BBC code manually...

    Great !

I have this pluggin. For sure :D And namspopof speak french so he's my mentor on an other (french) forum.

If I want to create different plots with the same building (house without garden and house with garden, 1x2 and 1x4) should I to release two different "buildings" or just one, wich will compile the two different lots ?

2 different buildings if your including custom props with main model.

Awesome buildings!, very nice balance between detail and performance.

One thing: You probably need to lower the saturation and brightness of your textures by a lot. Especialy rooftextures.

Here is one example with some LOD textures:
    Looks realistic in Sketchup:
    office02_l2_d-kieqnsi4.jpg
    Looks realistic ingame:
    office02_l2_lod_dvqsk4.jpg

Keep up the good work :)

I use Sketchup to SC4 Bats as well and is possible to model very complex buildings there, not only the small ones.
You're doing very good buildings, great job :)

please create normal maps for your buildings. Small features can be included in the map to save polys.

also, you don't have to create 2 versions of an asset for different footprint sizes

just create one with a size of 2x2. The asset editor will allow you to place props in the backyard (2x4 area).

The game will place your asset as 2x2 (without backyard), 2x3 and 2x4.

Hmm, care to explain more about this? Never heard of this. So the game randomly will remove the props you add?

Not randomly. When you select the size 1x1 in the asset editor, the editor will show you a 1x4 plot. You can decorate it with props.

Ingame, your asset will grow as 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, and 1x4, depending on the available space.

Only the props which are within the plot boundaries will be displayed.

The Building Themes mod changes this behavior a little bit: When you place no props in the backyard, it will shrink the plot to 1x1 to save space.
