When editing a post, an Edited By stamp is added to the end of the post.  There is a field for explaining reasons for an edit, and sometimes even a checkbox to enable the showing of the Edited By stamp.  However, the checkbox is enabled by default, and the checkbox is sometimes not always offered.  I'm all for integrity of contents of posts during a discussion, but I often edit just to fix spelling, punctuation, grammar, and often even line spacing.  Sometimes, composition of the post is more important, and having that Edited By line can disrupt the presentation.  In the previous version of the forum, this was resolved with an account preference to default disable the checkbox for the Edited By line.  Can that default preference be restored?

On the mobile web version of the forum, there no longer seems to be a direct way to reach the main forum page here once you start down into the sub-forums and topics.  The mobile website's available navigation button only takes you to the next immediate higher level group or forum in the tree, but not back to the top.  The only other option is to use your browser's back buttons, which can involve a lot of backpedaling out of certain topic threads.  In the previous mobile web version, the Simtropolis header at the top of the forums would take you to the main forum page, but now it links to the Simtropolis homepage.  However, the Simtropolis homepage in mobile web currently does not seem to offer a link to the forums.  The only way to reach the forum from the current homepage in mobile web is to jump into any random forum posting being featured on the homepage, and then back navigate up the tree until we reach the main forum page.  Indeed, the Simtropolis homepage for mobile web does not offer any navigation...not to the forums, not to the STEX, not to City Journals, not to the Omnibus...the mobile web homepage is only showing featured entries.  At least his is how it is working for me using the default Android web browser in old Android 4.0.4.

Yay, we can put cover photos in our profiles.  I had to guess at a guideline, such as the 1278 max pixel width.  More importantly, there is a profile Activity Feed, but what gets fed in?  Some prolific posters and commentators oddly seem to have no recent activity to show.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The "Edited by..." stamp is something we're still ironing out and we understand the points raised. We're still trying to find a balance of when it should be optional, so please bear with us for a little while. I hear what you're saying though.

As for the mobile navigation, those are good points which I'll investigate to see if it can be improved.

    @Odainsaker

On my mobile view, the "hamburger" icon gives me an option to return the main Forum index... does this not show up for you?

Additionally there are links to go directly to STEX, CJ, Omnibus, etc...

Are we seeing the same things?

Hamburger icon...?!?...Ah ha!  That's just what I was looking for!  I think I used it to once sign in and had never looked at that button since, as I thought it was an account settings menu.  I'm getting too old and old school, to the point where I cannot recognize a button on my phone anymore.

Still, more importantly, I can navigate again...Dirk is our hero!  I promise never to try to squash the bug on my screen.

Is anyone else having problems with the "Please wait x seconds before attempting another search." message popping up constantly?

I've been using the New Content link at the top right to look at recent posts, but I frequently get this error when going to the next page or even just using the back button in my browser. It is making the site almost unusable for me. (I'm running Chrome 43 on Windows 7, if that's helpful. This problem happens on both my home and work computers, so I don't thinks it's an issue on my end.)

I've been playing a bit with the CJ section and even though at the moment I feel like I've just woken up in Mars, I think it's looking pretty cool.

But let's ask some questions :-)

    1) The cover of every city journal is cut at the middle with a grey area that ensures clear visibility of the entries, comments and views stats. Can we choose a different colour?

    2) I've noticed that the same image is used as a miniature in the main page of the CJ section, but in some CJs it also shows a blue area cuting at the middle, and in some other it doesn't. Why is this?

    3) If there's a picture in any of your entires, wider that the width of the template (I have some wallpapers 1600px wide) the whole page is stretched to match the size: https://community.simtropolis.com/journals/journal/5240-leningrad-ленинград-1941-44/

    4) The previous point also gives me the feeling that when I enter in a CJ all pictures from all entries are being loaded. It takes a while with the "thinking" mouse pointer.

I'm really digging the sharper, cleaner post-update look as well as the new color scheme; somehow it gives off much more of a "modern city-building website" vibe. Good job.

EDIT: And count me among those opposed to the circle avatars. Mine works well enough circled, but I personally like square ones better (it goes better with the straight lines of the website) and one can more easily fit a circular image within a square space than a square image in a circular space (in terms of display size and filling in the background, etc.)

    could this be true?

Link insertion is broken for me under Firefox 38.0.5 and 40.0a2, even when using fresh profiles (although automatic inline conversion still occurs, i.e. https://www.example.org). Essentially, upon clicking the Insert into post button, both dialog fields get blanked, the dialog itself remains, and the post isn't modified. Here's a video of the bug (apologies if it's a bit hard to follow, VLC didn't capture the cursor): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hx8Mt3PReM

While I'm at it, I may as well ask: Are there plans to reintroduce a non-WYSIWYG, restricted HTML mode for the editor? It was available in the previous version of ST and was (for me) quite handy.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the video.  I can't recreate this problem on FF 38.0.5... I'll send to the developers to see if there's another explanation.  Currently there are no plans for direct input into the editor, but there may be options.

@Yellowfin are you able to try another browser like Chrome?

I've also noticed this (using FF 38.0.6).

For me it happens intermittently, and for some reason more frequently on longer posts.

Maybe it's caused by a Firefox addon or something (e.g. Adblock or NoScript). If so, maybe it's worth temporarily disabling them on ST and see if it makes a difference.

A workaround I've found is to:

    1. Select the entire post's contents (Ctrl+A).
    2. Copy the post (Ctrl+C).
    3. Refresh the page (F5)
    4. Paste the post into the editor (Ctrl+V).
    5. Try adding the link again.

Whenever I try to upload, I get this error code:

"There was a problem processing the uploaded file. -200"

I've tried it on multiple computers (both Chrome and Firefox), so I don't think it's just me. However, I noticed that there have been uploads made during the time that I have been experiencing this issue, which makes me think I'm missing something. The file I'm uploading is a zip file about 3mb in size, so nothing out of the ordinary. Since the upload has multiple components, I've tried doing them both individually and in bulk, but to no avail. The upload category I'm trying to use is SC4 BAT

Apologies if this has been asked already - a search yielded no results.

About the search reindexing program.  Does this reindexing extend to include new posts?  If so, will it ever end?

    Quick question,

On the old site, if you hovered over the ho,e button you could add a feature or news item. I've found the add new item button on the homepage, how do I add a feature to the homepage? Thanks

    Don't worry. I've found it!

    Where?

Sorry.  I found it within seconds after posting.

Once the main index is built with all content from 1Million+ posts and entries, it will subsequently only do delta updates.

If it is indexing every significant word in all posts, this may turn out to be an NP complete process and therefore a never-ending story.  I truly hope the parser is very, very good.

GIFs don't seem to work anymore...at least not if you try to change your photo after the update

Also, there is that "ugly" white frame if the pic doesn't have the corret size...

Will GIFs still work? And when? Because I remember before the update that you pic had to have the correct maximum size or less. In case it was scaled down your GIF was frozen

GIFs worked fine for me before the update (more or less), I tried it several times, it doesn't seem to work so I wouldn't advise you to try it out if you want to keep it by any chance

Setting an animated GIF for your profile image should be working again.
