My Surface Pro 3 cannot handle the Asset Editor so I will just have to leave what I would have imported over here:

That's really unfortunate! Is it the only piece of hardware you have that you can play the game on? Have you tried the -noWorkshop switch as a launch option to streamline the process?

I think our workflows are too different for me to take up your work, but I'd rather have you be able to do it yourself anyway :)

Cities: Skylines freezes when textures are set to high so my building is hideous in the asset editor (but beautiful in the preview). I literally just want someone to put the contents of that zip folder in their import folder and choose the color options of white (makes silver), orange-yellow (makes gold), dark teal (patina), and saturated red-brown (makes bronze or gunmetal). I believe I fixed the UV mapping.

You might have wanted to say so before?

Anyway, first of all, I can't get the color variations to work :( I added roughly the colors you mentioned in the asset editor but no variations show up if I plop the building many times even. Does anyone know how this should work out for a unique?

Second, your LOD is bugged. I think you put an older version in that .zip.

    Screenshot.thumb.jpg.273db925e0d82007af2

Third, there's funky stuff going on with both your geometry and your textures. Near the base it looks like the walls have been UV-unwrapped as lines since they show mondo pixel streaking. Also, those window panels on the shaft look like they're on alternating vertex normals? Then there's a couple of places where duplicate geometry is showing through the model via tearing.

    Screenshot-1.thumb.jpg.5d8349041147f6e75

Honestly I'm not sure what you're trying to communicate here. Do you want your asset sent back to you in its .crp form?

Thanks. Now I know that I need to fix it and why I need to fix it.

BTW, that's not duplicate geometry, that's lazy UV unwrapping that catches the black of the empty texture and white of the roof. I could make the building an office but it seems a bit big for an office. How does ploppable RICO work with color variations? @boformer

I will add an entrance and maybe some triangle or sunburst accents near the roofs. I will also replace the black with a desaturated monochrome tan to avoid these problems.

You'll probably lose your color variations when the RICO mod swaps out the AIs on scene load. Its not something that's crossed my mind yet, so I need to look into it.

    Aren't those stored in BuildingInfo?

I think I will do a series of 5x5 buildings next week. I will try to have each size have 2 or 3 wealth levels

    Residential (1-storey single family home, 2-storey duplex, 6-storey condominium, 8-storey condominium, 1 cookie cutter house on a 5x4 and 3 on 5x12)

Industrial (1 floor warehouse with a chimney, 2 floor factory with shallow diagonal roof windows and 2 smokestacks, 3 floor factory with diagonal roof windows and 3 smokestacks, 5 floor heavy industry with a giant smokestack, a big tank/vat, and 3 small steam/exhaust pipes

Commercial (2 floor shop with oversized sign out front and oversized awning, 4-storey corner market with oversized awning and big billboard sign, 1 5x12 strip mall with a supermarket in the middle)

Office (9-storey office, 12-storey office, 24-storey office, 30 story office)

I decided to work some more on Purity Tower. I want to give it a post-modernist look.

    DnU8qr7.png

This building will be Art Deco on steroids:

    fJwOuPh.png

The green part is placeholder geometry (I'll give it extruded columns like the base) and the textures are placeholder materials. The shiny grey will be the windows, the orange and dark yellow diamonds will be brass sunbursts, the blue will have a subtle triangular texture and look like cement painted with semi-gloss paint. These patterns will be carried up to the top. The completed geometry is almost 11k triangles and I expect the total triangle count to come out to between 16k and 20k.

Update: The triangle count ended up being under 13k.

As always feedback and suggestions appreciated.

I can make one but I dislike UV mapping and my Surface will compress the texture to "medium" quality. Volunteers for help?

I had great difficulty with finding good texture sources so I'm going back to low rises and mid-rises.

First I will do townhouses (I will do ploppable RICO housing divisions for Cities: Skylines and rerelease once Medium density is implemented)

Afterwards, I will do some mid rise buildings inspired by Radiant City (Le Corbusier) and The Imaginary Metropolis of Tomorrow (Hugh Feriss), with plenty of green space (always on the ground, sometimes on the roof, occasionally inside or on the side of the buildings.

Big buildings are just too much work to texture.

I changed my mind after I became super busy though I have tons of my old rowhouse models on my hard drive (I just don't like how they turned out).

Anyway, I decided to finish making Anne Queen's Tenement, based off L1 2x2 Detached 4 (made semi-detached)

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=767174221

Here are renders from 2 angles:

I might need to invert the color mask and darken the roof further.

I'm not sure why but the only map that works is the diffuse map. Am I supposed to attach the normal, specular, and illumination maps within the 3D program (I use 3Ds Max 2012 student but many use Blender)?

I already fixed the UV map to make the basement/foundation brick. I also created a LOD from the provided LOD. I might need to make some adjustments to lower its triangle count. I don't want to update my asset until I get all the textures maps, and masks working.

Did you name the files correctly ? They should be in the same folder with the other textures and if diffuse is _d those others need to be _a _s _i _c _n

I honestly don't know what I did wrong. I tried renaming everything. Deleting all old versions and different imports (I tried to make a wheat field) but there are no lights.

If anyone wants to upload it either as is or with inverted colors (or tweaked to their liking), they may do so. Since this is merely an alteration of a default building, there is no need to credit me. Texture-wise, I removed the welcome mat and darkened the roof by 40 points (with the 'Brightness and Contrast' tool). I also fixed the mapping for the basement. The biggest difference is that it's now a semi-detached building instead of a fully detached one. As low wealth medium density housing, it belongs in high density (L1) with the realistic density mod.

Anyway, I'm moving onto a new project now. Unfortunately, all my 3Ds Max files got corrupted on my "external" SSD somehow so I have to remake everything I wanted to complete from square one.

I ended up making 2 variations (in geometry) of my art deco tower and might eventually make a shorter hotel and taller Wren Insurance-esque version.

    3JsEb2J.png

Realize that the triangle counts are for both buildings combined and that I will be able to shave 10-30k triangles from each building by optimizing (columns don't need to be segmented like windowed walls do) so they won't be horrendously high poly.

I gave the buildings placeholder materials in order to optimize them. I will give them proper textures within a week using roughly the same color palettes; the Miami style one will have the blue get a color mask to come in different colors (I'm thinking cream, purple, green, and the current sky blue).

I decided to make the main blue more of a pale color (to allow for recolors) and have most of the gold part be solid gold, without the copper MARCO decoration. As soon as I finish my domed Art Deco building, I will begin on midrise 8x16 Ploppable RICO buildings including L1-4 condominiums, offices, clean industry, and (if possible) specialized industry shops (farmers' markets, processed food stores, furniture stores (takes processed wood), and garden centers). These are inspired by the works of Hugh Ferriss and Le Corbusier.

I changed my mind and decided to make a Tier 2 and Tier 3 industry series.

Attached is a screenshot of the first factory (If wealth and density are separated, this would be I$$, Lv1, 4 wide, 2 deep)

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Texturing these factories is taking longer than I thought now that I have to do it myself.

    Here are the untextured models:

I tweaked the texture a little and worked a little more on unwrapping the UV. I will release this (incomplete) today, in hopes that someone will pick it up. The windows are tinted because I wanted to introduce randomness in the arrangement of the nightlighting.

Here is a zoomed out version with more UV unwrapping completed:

The model looks great. The colors are too bright for my taste, especially the color of the sphere and the gold accents. I would like to see a grey/beige version of your building.

Here is what it looks like without any filters/LUTs. Do you recommend I use a stone texture instead of copper patina? Do you recommend I use a dull bronze instead of bright gold? Feel free to retexture and redustribute instead. I grant unlimited permission to remix to everyone.
