Is there a tutorial out there anywhere on how to use the NAM? I have been reluctant to use it because I don't understand how all of the pieces work together. I read that the new NAM31 allows for draggable pieces and bridges using rhw but have not figured it out. Really want to use this but I just stick with the Maxis roads and highways because they make more sense.

First off, starmodem, nice avatar!  (Huge Big Bang Theory fan here--I recognize that as one of Sheldon's attempts at "smiling" from Season 2.)

The first one is, by all appearances, a bug.  The second two are actually not bugs, and are actually part of the intended mechanism for those networks, though they may look a bit strange.  The wider RHWs are generally built using combinations of starters from other networks with special lane-adding starters.  What you're seeing is those base networks upon which part of the overrides are based--drag the full width of those highways through (connecting the outer/shoulder tiles to the ramp interface) and they'll convert to the proper width.

Since installing NAM31, I cannot get ANY slope mod to work. I have tried three different slope mods that are on the STEX with no luck.

I tried:

  • SCRT Slope Mod V1
  • BigRedFish Tunnel and Slope Mod
  • Some other slope mod I cannot recall the name - it's one I have used for years without issue.

In each of these cases, I tried adding "zzzzzzzzzzzzzz_" to the filename to make sure it loads last, but no luck. I tried re-installing the NAM to see if there was one in the installer that I had to select, but didn't see any.

Any suggestions, or just wait for NAM 31SE?

I just ran a Plugins Analyzer on a clean install with Ennedi's Slope Mod.  The only conflicting file I found was an override of the Maxis Highway settings in the Maxis Highway Override (Project Symphony) folder, in the Tunnels file.  The Ennedi mod is working for me, sitting in the z___NAM folder at present.

I'd recommend placing it in a z_ folder of some sort.

I haven’t received an answer for the following:

How did you do this:

Please, be patient and try to use the search function or try to find out yourself! Posting again things like "hey, I didn't get an answer for this within a short time frame is considered as spamming, and it can annoy other users. Keep that in mind.

I haven’t received an answer for the following:

Look under the appropriate button. (Note: We've done some major reorganisation, so all the curves are placed under the Curves button. Also heed the warnings posted from where you got that image.)

Oh, so you’ve added wealth textures for the Avenue curves?

No, they've added a ploppable FLEX-curve ;) There are two 45* avenue curves now, if you do enough tabs you'll find it.

Flex is such an overpowered term when you think of what it means: Overridable puzzle piece. If you think FlexRamp, FlexTransition, FlexFly, and FlexCurve, then yeah, they all make sense, but this is what I would call a "FlexSurfaceCurve".

I'm not sure that my installation went as supposed to. Before I
installed NAM 31 i had double icons, which I never
cared to do anything about since it didn't seem to cause any problems
other than more scrolling.

The update did rearrange the RHW icons (still two of everything), but do not seem to have added any content. Maxis highways are still Maxis Highways.

Is it possible that it could help to completely delete and re-install all
NAM content from my plugins, and if so, would the NAM content disappear
from my cities?

Reinstalling would work just fine.  You could even delete your entire plugins folder, re-download everything you had, and the game wouldn't be affected.  It doesn't update until you start the game again.

Is there a solution for me? I installed the NAM today on my SC4 deluxe (amazon version, recent, up to date) on my win8 i7 machine. once I started SC4 and clicked on a city, it just froze in the loading window. After I deinstalled the NAM it worked again. Something on my PC isn't agreeing with it, would you have any idea what it is?

Thank you so much :)

You could try version 30 for now until we have worked out all the bugs. Version 30 is the lastest stable version (31 is more a nightly version): http://www.moddb.com/mods/network-addon-mod/downloads/network-addon-mod-windows

Whats the best way to get working?

The RHW 6s with rail down the middle as it doesn't seem to be working for me with the connecting pieces.

If you don't put the two stretches of RHW next to each other you have to plop another piece in between. It is the first piece of the connector pieces tab-ring. (The invisible piece with the two-sided blue arrow.)

Yep i know you need the invisible connector but I have rail and you cant place the connector then place rail over it or place the connector over the rail piece etc and there is no invisible connector for rail or road inbetween etc.

Its really disappointing as I want to run the whole rail down the center of the highway ala this as the whole main highway north to south has rail down the center and it does look good in my city.

It would look tacky to bring the rail out to the side on every edge then back to the center straight after.

Thanks Mandelsoft, I hope it will work! Now I wish Dell hadn't upgraded me to an i7! Ha! I know it's all a private project, but do you guys think it will eventually be compatible with my processor? I'm so excited to try the older NAM too, I have never had any plugins like that before.

Edit: the older version works :) The controller program though won't start from the desktop... But I'll play around with all the tools now to get a better understanding. Thank you again!.... Now... I only have to wait until my kids nap haha! :D

That's weird, I also have an i7 W8 PC, but I can use the NAM 31.

I can't seem to upload pictures, probably because of this stupid Windows 8.

Could someone take a look at this? https://www.dropbox.com/s/ef7ctg4alpaetvk/Namnl%C3%B6s.jpg

What am I doing wrong? Why does it miss the ramp pieces on the left? I think it has the same problem when passing over RHW-8, (not sure), but works perfectly with RHW-4. Note that this is not a NAM 31 exclusive problem.

It's by no means certain that i7 / Hyper-threading / TurboBoost is the problem. We're still trying to figure it out.

Try clicking on the affected area several times with the RHW tool.

I have tried that at tens of different occasions, this is always the best I get

Try sticking starters for the 6S two tiles off the overpass on each side. It works well for me.

I worked around the rail setup using the rail to subway and works great.

Remember you need the 4 tile gap for the subway on each side to the transition else you will be told rail is too local and it won't work.

Its not a too rare setup having rail down the middle its symmetrical for one and looks nice and its good for us here.

Screenshot shows both working perfectly fine.
