I seem to have an issue with the NAM 32 installation and the RHW textures. I have to install the RHD-version of NAM, but ideally I would like to see Euro road textures for Roads and RealHighway.

The roads weren't an issue, but the RealHighway has given me US style, and the RHW/Road stud follows suit.

You can find a workaround for this bug here.

Sorry to post again but my post was buried under RHW discussion. I am still having major problems with NAM 32.

Okay, I have had endless issues since updating to NAM 32. First, the Network Configuration tool refuses to work. It needs Java and after trying several times, I have found that Java simply refuses to install on my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite L-55A with Windows 8.1. Apparently, Java does not get along with 8.1, according to numerous random forums. The next issue happens when I try to build a city and use the NAM tools. The city worked perfectly fine and I put about an hour into building a Tram-on-road network with the game paused. Upon starting the simulation, the game immediately crashed seconds after querying a station. I restarted the game, with the tram network still in place from a recent save and ran the simulation again. I saw about a dozen small red streetcars race down the street far faster than the cars and no more of them. The game then crashed about 3 minutes later, without being touched and without querying anything. I then downloaded a new streetcar, screamingman12's Portland streetcar, to replace the one that came with the NAM and reloaded the same city. No streetcars showed up, and the game crashed about 3 minutes later. After that, I created a completely new city, after reinstalling NAM, and tested a streetcar network. No streetcars, and then the game crashed. I would really like to add a streetcar network to my cities, but they keep causing CtD's. I have not had any problems building the network, only running it. Is this a major bug or simply an install issue? Also, a query of the Tram-on-road to Subway conversion caused an immediate crash as soon as the query box was closed. Please help!

P.S. NAM 30 worked perfectly fine for me on an old laptop. NAM 31 worked as well on the laptop I currently use, but its Network Configuration Tool didn't. The only mods I use are CAM, a few extra large heavy rail train stations, and a few hundred infill buildings. As far as I know, CAM doesn't cause conflicts with the trams or light rail, only network multipliers. I have a store bought CD of the US Deluxe Edition and it is updated to 1.1.640

2nd Edit. I went into that city and removed the tram network and ran the simulation. It worked continuously without issue. I then tried a ground light rail system instead and it crashed again. I re-updated the game to 1.1.640 and downloaded the patch "BAT_Update2" as well as the NAM essentials (I think everything is covered anyway.) I created another test city and the streetcar system worked, but without a tram, for about 5 minutes, then crashed.

RHW Bridges Over Water I just can't seem to make it happen.... is there a trick or is it just so simple that I'm overlooking it? Do you drag the roadway over water, or do you build the highrise and drag it from there? whenever I do drag the roadway ( 4 lane roadways or larger) the bridges that come up are just 2 lanes in each direction or single lane but I do have the NAM 32 uploaded with all the bridges from the custom download. (does anybody have simple instructions or possibly a video to show me?)

You need to use the MHW (Maxis Highway) tool. The RHW tool can only build bridges one-tile wide.

A consequence of the MHW tool is that all two-tile network bridges must be separated by one tile, and there are no three-tile network bridges. The appropriate RHW bridges will appear in the bridge menu popup. Simply drag the RHW in to the end of the MHW bridge to connect

<snip>

You mentioned using the CAM. Is there a folder called z_CAM in your plugins? If so, it needs to be deleted at once. Otherwise I am at a loss for explanation.

Also, have you searched the threads for fixing the various issues w/Windows 8.1? They might indirectly solve your problem.

Yes, I have a z_CAM folder. I will delete that and see what happens.

Edit-The z_CAM folder was removed, and I still have CAM's RCI graph. I tested a small city with a STMT network and the game ran for 5 minutes. No trams could be seen, but cars could be seen. As soon as I zoomed in, the game crashed 10 seconds later. I believe there is a conflict with the trams. It had no issue showing the subway view with Maxis subway trains or the heavy rail network with Maxis trains. I had downloaded the Portland Streetcar. I then tried the "Nottingham Tram" and deleted the Portland Streetcar and it still crashed, at about April of the 4th year, after running the game at high speed on the 2nd closest zoom level and looking directly at the tram line. No trams passed. Is there an issue with the NAM default tram?

I'm not sure what the issue is at this point. I can advise you to never put the z_Cam folder back into your plugins as it is outdated and will cause further conflicts.

Is there an issue with the NAM default tram?

To my knowledge, the "NAM default tram" is actually the Maxis default tram.  All the Ground Light Rail/Tram networks are basically a ground-level version of the default Elevated (Light) Rail.  We generally aren't in the automata business.

I removed all three of the trams that managed to make it into my plugins folder and now there aren't any at all. They were probably causing conflicts. Before, the NAM used the Maxis el-rail/subway train. This time, it tried to use a small brown streetcar, and almost immediately crashed. I put one tram back into the plugins folder, but I still don't get any automata. I also get brown boxes for most of the Ground Light Rail and Tram on Road or Avenue stations. Also, the menu shows the cost for the Tram-in-road to subway transition as being about 4.3 Billion Simoleons, even though it cost about 250 and builds a massive brown box. I uninstalled and reinstalled NAM, ensuring that I had the GLR tram network and stations selected, but I still have the issue. Is there a fix for this?

It's impossible to get brown boxes from the NAM, as the NAM has no external dependencies.  What stations are you using for your GLR and tram?  The fact that you had problems with the Tram-in-road to subway transition suggests that you have the earlier RTMT version of this in your plugins as well, although normally that shouldn't cause a problem, as the NAM version should override the RTMT version.  See if you have the RTMT version, and if you do, delete it.  And if you have the rest of RTMT, I'd recommend deleting it and reinstalling it.  RTMT has dependencies for certain options, so be sure to get those if you use them.

The problem I have is the following, before I download the NAM 32 I had made that part of my city with one-way streets with three lanes (streets from the previous NAM), and now is the first time I joined SC4 after installing NAM and I came across what I show in the picture. The streets have disappeared (they are transparent), when I click on them they look like the streets of Maxis and I can not find the icon to the streets of three lanes. Can someone please help me? Thank you very much.

Welp, try reinstalling the NAM, and disabling the 'OWR Arrow Reduction' option. That can make the base OWR network more unstable. :D

I tried that, and it doesn' work :(

The pieces of the roads that I can change with 'Tab' are not appearing in the game, I'm thinking that's the reason, but I don't know what's the option on installation to do that.

I've tried searching this topic, but cannot find an answer to my problem. I've only found a few mentions. I tried installing the NAM. It tells me the 1.1.638.0 patch is missing. Of course I installed it long ago. I tried re-installing it and get a log report:

Whoops, I actually misread your post. I thought you were referring to the bare bones OWR-2. I see that you don't have the Network Widening Mod (NWM) installed, and that contains the OWR-3 network. Re-re-install the NAM and check the Network Widening Mod in the installer settings.

Installed NAM on a fresh install of Simcity from steam. Region and city loads fine, until I build a couple structures. Then the whole screen flips out. It doesn't freeze, there are just swaths of green and bown on the screen Happens when any structures are built. I'm assuming it's as soon as traffic is generated? Help would be appreciated.

The fact that the patch log shows two invalid old files means that the patch failed.  This probably happened the first time you installed the patch as well, and you didn't notice; that's why the new versions of most of the files already exist.  But the two executable files failed to patch both times.  Where did you get your copy of SC4?

This is clearly a problem of some kind with your graphics card.  Does it happen when you run the game in software mode?  What graphics card do you have?  Do you have the latest drivers for it?  Does the problem happen at different resolutions?  Have you played SC4 successfully on this machine with this graphics card before?

Two possibilities:

1.  It is the wrong patch file.  It needs to be the correct one for your SKU.

2.  You have an illegally patched version with something like a no-disk patch which has messed up the checksums.

In either case, you probably should reinstall the game (from a legal source).

I have a problem with installation. I'm past compotents selection, installation bar starts his travel, and in the 1/8 of his spectacular travel a console shows ( for 1 second ) and all I can see is several directions of files and my computer is restarting. I've been trying to do some variations of the compotents, but always this bad console turns of my computer. This is the first time, other installations are going without issuses, only installation of NAM is giving me headache..

If anyone could help me I'll be very grateful.

  • If I'm understanding you correctly, you're probably seeing the command window opening. That's normal as the NAM compiler is accessed. Are you saying that the window closes and your computer restarts on its own? Do you see anything about needing to update your game? Is your game version 1.1.640 or 1.1.641?

By the time the installer calls the controller compiler, all the version checks have been passed successfully.  So indeed, it sounds like something about the controller compiler is causing his computer to crash.  This is the first time we've heard anything like this.

Havoc95, what version of Java do you have on your computer?  Do you know if you can run other Java programs successfully?  Have you used previous versions of the NAM, and if so, what was the most recent one?

Not sure if this has been addressed but I believe I found a pathfinding issue with this particular diagonal rail x L2 RHW-6S crossing.  It came to my attention when I noticed no one was using my rail line in my city:

    RHW6L1xRail_zpsb3b9bcfa.jpg

Also, on a side note regarding diagonal rail and avenue viaduct puzzle pieces... Not sure how to describe this but I am not able to rotate the avenue viaducts while hovering over diagonal rail in the type of crossing pictured above. Therefore I am not able to create these types of crossings and must use draggable L1 or L2 RHW-4.  I mean I could use the new draggable viaducts, however they show up as American textures (as do several other networks pieces such as the on-slope for avenue and most diagonal tram intersections... will this ever be fixed?  It has been an issue with the previous NAM, too).

Any fixes or workarounds that I should know about?  Thanks.

Draggable viaducts don't support OxD or DxD crossings yet, neither are Euro textures...

To get your java version you need to open a console (cmd) and type:

    java -version

You should get back something like:

    java version "1.7.0_51"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.4.4) (7u51-2.4.4-0ubuntu0.13.10.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)

(This is my response, and yours will be different on the second and third lines at least).

Is there a way to build an orthogonal road viaduct over sunken diagonal rail? The onslope transitions seem to only work on an orthogonal slope.

You'd have to have a little extra space in there to use the standard onslope.  It sounds like the type of situation you're trying to construct would require an entirely different type of OnSlope that has never been made (or even planned).  It's also worth noting that at this point, the draggable viaducts don't support any sort of overpass situation involving a diagonal.  That is planned to be addressed in the near future.

Thank you for the swift response. No, I've never had any issues playing the game before, but I think you must be right that my graphics card simply isn't handling it post-NAM for some reason. I re-installed the driver just to be sure, but I think I will just have to play on a computer with a real graphics card. Previously, I always played Sim City on my laptop (Intel HD® Graphics 4000). Bummer. Thanks again.

Java is not an integral part of this installer or other standard installers; it's just needed to run the controller compiler.  It's quite possible that your copy of Java is corrupted.  I'd recommending uninstalling Java and reinstalling it.

We started doing the patch check with NAM 31.2.  The reason for this is because the patch has always technically been listed as a requirement for the NAM.  Beginning with about NAM 29 or so, there had been a glut of users who started blaming the NAM Team for things that were in fact of Maxis' doing (and fixed by that patch), so we added that check.  The side effect was that it blocks a user from installing the NAM if they were running a NoCD at the time.  Due to the importance of being truly and fully patched, and the fact that the team has a good relationship with the game's developers, we have no plans to remove the check.

There's a bunch of legal ways to get around SafeDisc, the DRM used by SC4. Have a look at mounted images, they're just as legal as burnt backups depending on territory.

Your no-disk patch is illegal.  It destroys the checksum expected and so the official patches won't take.  Reinstall without that patch.
