Request: add the capabilities of the Freight Station Mod ver 1 at
https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=1953
into the NAM.

I think this actually qualifies as a transit bugfix. In the original, freight can only switch from trains to trucks at freight stations; this simply allows it to switch the other way as well, which it certainly should be able to.

I suppose this may count as a forbidden-to-the-NAM lot, though. :-(

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there something about putting trffivlights on the highway junctions? This was a while back but I just wondered if this idea is dead or just bobbing under the surface?

Wallasey,

I was working on it, but it is further back in my queue of thing to do. I have other stuff such as school and other commitments (me and my big mouth14.gif) to take care of. I have basically overextended myself in too many directions. It will be some time before I can get back to it. I sort of abandoned it because it was too hard to get the stoplights onto the diagonals15.gif

Sorry, I was a little pissed because of unrelated things. They rearranged the left menu, the first post in this topic should be updated. I found it, thanks. 31.gif

Hi, I thought I should post about what I have been working on for the NAM.

smoncrie%20new%20crossings.jpg

As you can see I have been mostly working on sunken highway crossings.  There are about 2 dozen new pieces so far.  Some are incomplete, and most need more testing.  I am not totally happy with some of the new OnSlope pieces, but I do have working versions.

Those look fantastic Smoncrie. Are they new on slope puzzle pieces or are they overpasses? I'm guessing overpasses because you have a road one down the bottom. Are these ready to be added to the next NAM or do they still need some tweaking?

Those look suspiciously like the impossible highway and GLR OnSlope pieces. Please, tell me those are the missing OnSlope pieces....

This picture and the previous picture show puzzle pieces.  Four of them are new OnSlope puzzle pieces.  The OnSlope pieces for Elevated Rail and Monorail are fine, but I am not totally happy with the GLR and Highway OnSlope puzzle pieces.  They will do, if I can not find a better way to do it.

Many of the pieces still need a lot of work; for example, you can see there are missing supports, missing shadows, and missing props.  I do not know if they will be in the next NAM.

If someone can supply a suitable support model (I do not want to use the Elevated rail supports) I may try making monorail over road Dual/Double-decker pieces.

I think all this stuff is great and shld be included if possible in the next NAM, but there is only one true thing that i would love to see, that is more lights on the highways!!!, the only way that i am able to give my highways lighting is to use peg's 1x1 tree thingy as seen in all my cj pics, or by buiiding directly next to them, so i want more light on the highways, some sorta thing like what avenues have down the middle, take british highways for example

the feature you speak of is the Alternative Network Tool, or the ANT. it was a network that Maxis never finished, but left in the game. it was unlocked due to the awesome modding skills of members of this community. when you install the NAM, make sure to have the ANT option checked. The ANT will be available in the Highways Menu, at the very top. Be sure to read the NAM readme about the advantages and disadvantages of the ANT, as there are a few that you need to be aware of.

hope that helped.

It may be a while yet before the highway OnSlope pieces are released, but they WILL be released.

Toxicpiano, sorry, but at this time I am not interested in doing double deck highway pieces.

Smirkazor, for highway lighting take a look at  this thread.  You need to do both sides of a highway.

There has been a lot of work on trying to put roads, etc under land bridges.  It seems that the best way is to use concealed tunnels using overhanging props.  Look on the STEX for  UnderBridgeRoad by nietseb

Keiran Halcyon, do you mean turns where the el rail turns off the road, or an el turn with the road under it? (Note: the el rail should not turn 90 degrees in one tile.)

I'm talking abut these:

14041736_a11ac1b89c_o.jpg

As for not allowing the el-rail to make a 90 degree turn in one tile, that's default behavior, which was ignored when GLR was created. The above images also ignore that behavior, but widen the turns somewhat so they look believable. IIRC, the props do actually overhang into the corner square; the paths themselves just skirt the corner so that the corner square doesn't need to become a network tile. In some specific cases, this may cause the track prop to intersect with a building, but I think that wold be sufficiently rare as to be acceptable.

Yes, we need that stuff! 8.gif

It's about three version of the NAM that I hope to find at least one double decker el-rail turn.

Please... at least, the normal curve, the one in the lower right corner of the picture...

If I remember correctly, that Dual Networking picture was posted by ardecila.   Beyond that I know no more about it than anyone else.

All the intersections shown, except the one on the top right, use a lot of special models, textures and paths.  I think it is wasteful to duplicate someone else
