I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

@Thin White Duke I don't know what they are but it sure as heck looks good. It's hard to make tiny creeks like that using plopable water mmps instead. Did you set the terrain at the water level there? I swear I can see tiny waves, which helps to give the impressing that it's water and not a just barren land.

It is indeed tiny ditches of water. The surrounding terrain is low enough that the grid becomes invisible.

Thanks for the kind comments! :thumb:

Ok, I'll try. :)

First of all, I think you got the fundamentals right: Nice rock and terrain mods, the waterfall looks good, and that little lake is actually situated in a depression. :thumb:

I don't know how the terrain looks further towards the bottom, but that little stub of river I can see looks as if it might flow down what looks like a ramp created for it. If this is the case, then it may look unnatural because the river would effectively flow down alongside the "spine" of a ridge. IMO it would make more sense to have the river flow down a trench, such as the one towards the left.

I also think you could choose a more turbulent kind of ploppable water for the area where the waterfall hits the surface and for the area where the river runs over the esge of that basin.

Finally, one could argue that the fine gravel you used to line the water hints at a very shallow depth, when you could expect the waterfall to have dug a bit of a hole in the ground. So maybe a few big, loose rocks at the bottom of the waterfall may look more convincing and convey a better sense of rough forces of nature at work than the fine gravel, which you could reserve for the calmer zones. I'd also get rid of the few loose rocks in the middle of that mountain lake because they indicate that the lake sits on a perfectly flat and shallow platform, which doesn't seem too realistic in the high mountains.

In any case, it's an impressive first attempt, and I'm pretty sure I'd do much worse myself. Keep it up and thanks for posting, I really enjoyed the picture! :)

@Jolteon    Beyond the suggestions from T Wrecks if I may add, the lake would have faster moving water due to the waterfall so it would be unlikely to have lilypads or other greenery in the middle of the water. Next to some of the large boulders you can add some of the smaller rocks so it looks like pieces fell off or fell with it from the mountainside. I would also terraform and flatten little areas on the mountainside so you can plop some more mmp greenery, shrubs, bushes(girafe has some) and trees so it is not so barren. Remember plants will try to grow anywhere they can.    Nice work thanks for sharing.

@Jolteon I couldn't add any more then what Phil and TWrecks did above . It already looks better then any attempt I have made at creating a waterfall . You are heading in the right direction , for sure .

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

@juliok92012 That image looks real nice , nice job .

That tiny wheat field in that strange location doesn't make much sense, I know. I wanted to see how it would work out, though.
