I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Great MMP work @Ln X, fantastic series of pictures in your last few posts!

On a side note, does anyone else find it difficult to work with seasonal MMPs given that some need to be plopped on 1st September, and others on 1st March? Anyone know if there's a way to edit these values in the Reader so we can plop them on the same dates?

As long as they are plopped in at the right dates then all the MMPs will seasonally change at the right time.

My problem is that many of the seasonal MMPs that flower need to be plopped in March because they are first plopped blooming whereas the seasonal trees need to be plopped in September because they are first plopped with their autumn colours. I find it tedious having to run the simulator to cycle between March and September to get my MMPs to look right. I was just wondering if there's anyway to edit some values in Reader so we can plop flowers in September, but have the timing down so they still bloom in March. That way all the seasonal MMPs can be plopped at the same time of the year.

I havn't tried that yet, but I think it should be possible.

You see, in a timed prop exemplar there's a resource key type 4 (?) property that's basically set up according to the scheme "time span A - display model A; time span B - display model B;" and so forth. The model IDs here are the instance IDs of each seasonal model: spring, summer, autumn, winter. If you identify correctly which model has which ID (this can be done by opening the resource DAT containing the actual models with the Reader), you should be able to switch the order of time spans and model IDs around in the Reader.

While you're right about the Resource Key Type, there are two important things to note. First is the 'and so forth' bit. RKT doesn't allow to add infinite amount of models, it can only hold 3 different models. So the scheme is: time span 1 - display model 1; time span 2 - display model 2, time span 3 - display model 3. Secondly, we're talking about flora exemplars here, not prop exemplars, and it's important to make that distinction because the timing mechanism for flora is different from props. Time span 1 & 2 are defined by a certain number of days, which is divided in half for each time span, and time span 3 lasts however many days remain in the year.

So for example seasonal trees have a defining time span of 180 days, which works out to 90 days for autumn, 90 days for winter, and the remainder for summer. Or in other words, 12 months are distributed in a 3-3-6 month scheme. It's very well possible to come up with a different scheme. For example an evenly distributed 4-4-4 month scheme was considered when seasonal trees were developed, but decided against in favor of a longer  'summer' season to account for spring. Flower MMPs follow a similar 3-3-6 scheme in order to achieve actual blooming for 3 months, and autumn & winter are combined into one state (as opposed to seasonal trees).

Now, to answer the question at hand: yes you can indeed edit flower flora exemplars in such a way they can be plopped in autumn and show up during summer. I did just that in my seasonal tree controllers. However, it may be apparent by now you'll need to edit both the defining time span and the order of models as defined by RKT. Moreover, the end result will always be a compromise of sorts. You could for example settle on a 5-5-2 month scheme and either have flowers bloom from February until June, or have them bloom during the last two months of July and August. Alternatively a 4-4-4 scheme works well too, and have them bloom from May until August (making them bloom in January seems a bit too early to me).

Of course you can just go for the 3-3-6 month scheme and make the flowers bloom throughout summer. However, that kinda defeats the purpose of seasonal flowers if you ask me, because they provide a nice way to add a 'fourth' season during the otherwise monotonous green summer.

Argh, my bad. Yes, due to the fact that I spend 90% of my SC4 time in the Lot Editor, I was thinking of seasonal tree props, but that's of course nonsense when we talk about MMP flora. >.< Great explanation, vortext!

Reading that description, I think I'm even more certain now that I'm going to stick to evergreen flora myself.

Respect for admitting error, and yeah evergreen seems to have been a good choice so far based on this info. This is going to hurt my plans for my next region seems it will take longer to plop than planned :lost:

Hawk Point County Park in Hawksworth, Hixon is quite unique. This is mostly due to the fact that there's a lighthouse here despite being a mile or so down the Lost River. This lighthouse was built to warn navigators, if there was fog, of the bend in the river.
