ST Nostalgia

Hi all,

This evening in chat, a bit of discussion about the days of old on ST was started and I realised that there are many members on the site who have been members for upwards of 10 years (I myself will turn 10 in November this year).

Samerton had the bright idea of a nostalgia thread, which, being the self-indulgent guy I am, created.

So yeah. Nostalgia for "the good old days" and "back in my day" has a home now. Insert nostalgia below this line:

Question 1:

Chat reunion? Yes, lets do it. I will contact all the old members I know on FB about it.

Question 2:

Samerton, Krbe, and I tried to scour Google for some screen shots of the old ST versions. Anyone have any to share? I'd love to gaze upon ST v4 one last time.

I like to use Waybackmachine to see old versions of websites I want to, but Simtropolis is not possible I don't know why :(

Anyway, this topic will be good, it's always nice to remember some things.

I became a member in September/October 2002  I think, when there were only a total of 70 or so members as much as I can remember. Changed my name in March 2003 and never left the site since. Ah, the nostalgie.....Besides Dirk, I think I am about the only one left that is still active from the first 100 members. Am I ?

Nice! Thanks for the screen shots Duke!

In chat I was trying to remember when my favourite version was and I remember it was the almost totally grey UI which I think was your middle shot. I seem to recall that one being a really nice, clear, no nonsense kind of UI.

Well, I'll wait for a hundred years so I might as well be proud of being a senior.. Haha.

Seriously guys, I have been here since 2008 with my old account but I totally forgot the password. I was too lazy to keep changing it so I made a new one in 2013, I only thought of using this account for downloading plugins but I never though interacting with you guys will be interesting. It all started with deciding to make a city journal. Anyway, so to make the long story short (although it might not be as long as your histories), here I am being actively participating in the forum. :D

Haha, not much of an history but in the coming years, it will be. :P

I joined during that last pic of Duke's ...ST5.

Things certainly have changed since then. I can only imagine seeing the site change over the entire 11 years it has been around...

    Certainly interesting to look back!

    What was your old username?

simcity4rushhour. It's here.. https://community.simtropolis.com/user/229458-simcity4rushhour/ It is totally inactive now. It even never had one post.. :(

Oh yeah notice the latest online was 2014? I tried to reopen that account by changing it's password lately but at that time, I already started posting my CJ with this. So I decided to nix it.

Pardon if I have two accounts in ST, I decided not to pursue the old one because I already had this "jmsepe" account active.

Ah, them were the days.  This place was going strong, sort of, when the web was empty of phone-maniacs.  This, too, shall pass.

oh, that 2008 simtrop, I was quite fond of that layout...

It's funny to think that this site has been around long enough now to have its own nostalgia thread, it's been a long time coming even. There's often nostalgic reflection going on in chat from the times of old :P

Lol, looks like I came late to the party in 2009, when I first found out that mods fo SC4 existed :P I think I got around to ST6, missing out on ST5. The interfaces for 6 and 7 never really differed that much, and my history as a lurker for 2 years wasn't that much interesting. Only really started to interact in 2010 when I started Llithustania :P Worst pictures ever back then :P It's been a great time on this site ever since then, and everyone's been so great to me, something I just have to love about Simtropolis :)

The strangest thing is that I couldn't even remember the old designs. I mean, I've been around for nearly 10 years, but if you asked me what ST 5 looked like, all you'd get as a reply would be a shrug and a blank stare. I do remember there were some designs I didn't like that much, though. I'm pretty happy with the current one, but I may have forgotten about its exact look a further 3 years onwards.

I remember the 2008 design too because that's the year I made my first steps here. What a nice year :)

I use to visit this site quite frequently back in 2011, before I finally decided to join and become a Simtropolis Member. Throughout my two and a half years on Simtropolis, I have witnessed a few changes, such as the addition of "Groups" and the occasional collapse due to an overload of users :P At first, I was only interested in the ST/Exchange and I wasn't interested about the forums at all! Then a few months ago, I was bored one day and decided to post in the forums and soon became a regular member. So yeah, that's a bit of my nostalgia on Simtropolis. Out of interest, who is the first ever member of Simtropolis and when was the site formed?

Forum based on discussing music, TV shows, current events and much more! Please check it out! :)

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

The actual website is very excellent right now.

I mostly remember this site being a slow, glitchy nightmare between a few of those updates. And the STEX screwing the pooch and a bunch of lost treasures because some people had hangups with upload permissions. I was always the outspoken appreciator of many amatuerish yet creative BAT's that fit into my cities just perfectly, and missed them when they vanished.

The site as it looked around 2006 was pretty nice though, for the era. The festive christmas banners were great too.

I feel so old. I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I joined this website. (I actually joined in mid-2003 as Norman).

I haven't been around much lately as I'm not really playing but I have some really, really fond memories of ST. Especially during the 'black' era circa 2004-5. Those were the days.
