New to this whole map making thing, here's my first custom made transit map showing the commuter rail service in my region;

You can read about the specifics of the system, as in why I had two different lines down the same corridor yet only one of them makes station stops, here:

It looks good for a first map! You might want to reduce the amount of diagonal angles though - to maybe only 90° and 45° or only 30° and 60° rather than having the the NP line at one angle, the C line at another and the ME line at a third angle. (I hope that makes sense!)

On another note, I've always been a fan of detailed track profiles and schematics, more so than transit maps. Here's the first of many I hope to make:

The red dotted line(s) indicates signaled track.

That's a beauty, Linoa06.

I've found that when trying to keep a central circle in a complex design, that converting the circle to an octagon can be very useful - keeps the idea of a circle, and fits better with 45 degree lines.

After it got such critical acclaim when I first posted it elsewhere, I'm bringing this masterpiece of design to the forum where it can truly be appreciated.  Please hold your applause.  ;)

Best map I've ever seen! I want to live there.

I'm going to assume Awsum Highway is made out of default MHW with no smooth curves and loads and loads of steep elevation changes? Yes please!

That's 4 sq/km down and about 68 more to go! Wish me luck :P

Well, I guess this doesn't count since it's a Cities:Skylines city, but there isn't a thread yet for that.

Those are some interesting line layouts! Is there any meaning to the different colours?

Yes there are. The blue, red and orange are separate tram lines, while the others are metro lines. :)

Linoa06, if the lines stop they end, but if they merge with other colours than they merge.

Linoa06: That map is awesome; it reminds me of NYC.

michae95l: Interesting map concept.  I wish the key discussed the colors, so I could analyze more of it!  :)

takemethere and Joe: wow

This is one of my favorite threads.  I love when it shows life.  Here's how my region's commuter rail is shaping up nowadays:

I like your map a lot. I do think it could go to the next level if you standardized the angles on the line to 45 degree increments, getting rid of some of the sweeping curves. It could be done fairly easily, and I think it would then look like a professional, real-world map. IMHO

I agree with mentarman, the angles should all be 90 degrees or 45

It looks a lot better, but there's still a lot to improve, but still good work. The green line isn't perfectly vertical, station labels aren't aligned or anything, and a few other things.

Thanks for your feedback! It's really appreciated. I don't know if I'll ever get the lines perfectly straight though. The act of drawing is fun enough. Too much attention to detail would stress me out haha. Linoa, you should inbox me those other suggestions just so I know for the future.

Not sure what program you're using to draw your maps, but if it has a grid straight lines shouldn't really be an issue. In Inkscape, I pretty much rely on the snap-to-grid to keep everything aligned properly and spaced evenly without having to be too precise myself.

Yeah, in Inkscape you can even just Ctrl-drag your lines and they should come out straight and vertical if you so draw them.

Not my bestest map, but that damn Cities XXL thing needed some purpose, so here's the very basic map of Cathnoquey, home of my current CJ. Again, really rushed, not a lot of time and the like. :/
