Lovely map, what software do you use bluemoose? I can hardly create such realistic map with MS Paint.

Yeah, you don't use Paint for that kind of stuff. I don't know about bluemoose, but if I did a road map I'd use Adobe Illustrator or a free program called Inkscape.

Thanks for the input. I have those two programs, I might actually try them out when I have vacancy. They are quite very technical though IMO. Before, I used MS paint for making maps. Here are some from my former CJ posts.

And this one for trains.

They only look it. In Inkscape, turn the grid on, turn snap on (both in the View menu), and then go nuts with bezier curves. That's pretty much it :)

Meanwhile, I appear to have been going around in circles...

jmsepe:  Indeed, I use Adobe Illustrator

Joe 90:  Love the curves, even if i am generally against multiple text angles.  In any case, It is beautiful to look at nonetheless!

Now, I have another updated map.  This is the Altona Metro (U-bahn) map.  It shows connections to ICE, IC, S-bahn, and simplified Tramlink and Busway Networks.  Brought to You by •BAHN (Belandes Altona Heisbahn Netwerk) (National Altona Rail Network in the Hanseatic Language, as well as a play on words).  Please, don't hesitate to tell me what you think!

Looks really nice! Absolutely love it! How did you make it? Did you use inkscape or something?

By the way, is that the Pacific Rim region? I'm also currently working on a region on this map. It is one of the best maps I've ever seen.

EDIT: So you use Illustrator. I should learn to read the posts above  :D

That's such a great map, bluemoose! Slightly gives off a Boston MBTA vibe which I love.

Here's a WIP of a revised suburban rail map of one of my cities that I have redone. Critiques welcome ;)

Thomastown North, Thomastown Beach and then Thomastown? I see what you did there...

Huehuehue, you saw nothing >_>

_A: yeah, the MBTA sort of inspired the colors, and I was thinking of calling this one the "spider map" like the boston one, and the S-bahn map the "octopus map" cause, well, look on the last page...

Any guesses as to what my next project is? :

I have really no idea about those parallel lines - except silly ones, of course. And I'm not too familiar with big termini.

Edit: It's Philly... :). And those are trolley lines. Plus one subway.

Yep, it's Philly.  The transit maps provided by SEPTA are complete rubbish, so I decided I'd try my hand at redesigning the system.  (I think if we were to discuss SEPTA's transit scheme we'd have to start a whole new thread, because it is so messed up.)  As for parallel lines, I figure 5 is doable, and shows the frequency, so I used parallel for the Trolleys, but I combine into one line for the Regional Trains.

so here's another WIP

Edit: also, that Riga map is just ridiculous

This is plan of the Krosinsee public transport system. It features three bus lines (Buslinien) B1, B2 and B3, and one ferry line (Trajektschifflinie) T.

Krosinsee3.jpg

B1 operates on 20 minute interval on workdays between 7:00 and 17:00, rest of the time on 30 minute interval. It doesn't serve the Gewerbegebeit Krosinsee-West, Süd stations on weekends and public holidays.

B2 operates on 15 minute interval on workdays between 6:00 and 20:00, rest of the time on 25 minute interval.

B3 operates on the same intervals as B1. On weekends and public holidays it doesn't serve Gewerbegebeit Westwald, instead it goes from Flüsstraße directly to Eisenross Hotel (via Neubaubrücke) where it ends.

T operates only on weekends and public holidays, between 8:00 and 20:00. It doesn't operate at all from 9th September to 2nd May and during bad weather.

I made a Google Maps-style map of the large city tile just north of the regional capital of Boston. Charlestown in the southeast, Somerville in the southwest, and Chelsea in the northeast. Still a lot of undeveloped land, but this mostly suburban tile is home to 106,210 people. Markers indicate subway stations and regional commuter rail stations. (image is 3000x3000)

Map shows Staffort's internal metro rail network.

Please note that this is my first work in Inkscape and vector graphics, so please forgive some possible defects.

Been awhile since I've been active, but here's a strip map of one of the Metro lines of my pacific rim region: Olympia. Issued by the regional rail transit agency, BAHN, which operates the S-bahn, Southern Cross, as well as Metro.  It shows connections to all other rail networks, with special attention to other Metro Services:

>snip>

Let me know what you think, and how it could be improved! (aside from a legend/key; I just realized I missed this)

Any chance that you took the Hawthorne Street name from the street in Philly?  ;)

Not bad for a first map, but suffers from a lot of mistakes indeed :P lines not being properly straight at a thing, station names in every direction and inconsistent curves are another. Parallel lines are also not always at the same distance from one another either and it is not streamlined at all. Nice work though, like that the stations are evenly spaced (sort of, but good enough), the IC logo and the few fancy fade effects :P

I personally am not fond of thin lines either, but now that's just me and not a design flaw at all.

Just a small map I did quickly this afternoon. It shows the two subway lines (Red and Green) and the suburban railway line. (blue)

Wow, I've seen such incredible maps here!

I'm a little afraid to show mine.

Well, this is just a test i made, it's my very first map, I really need tips guys.

I made the image 2500x2500 but the words are still "pixelized" and very small.

As I finished my region ( updates incoming, of course) I decided to try making a map of the transport. It's far from finished yet, I'll add things like parks, police station, hospitals, schools ect. For the moment only roads, rails subways, elevation levels and water done.

Here's a bus and rapid transit map for my region with routes determined by analyzing route queries throughout the region.  It's turning out to help me out a lot with transport problems in the region.

Not realy sure if this belongs here, If it don't I'll delete it.

MAde a subway system and used some other networks to draw up the lines and later lay down the subway under it. Not a realy good screenshot I see now, but I've deleted all the other networks so I don't have a better one, excuse me for that.

Here's a user-friendly transit map for my region, expanding off of an older map I made.
