Perhaps I should stop saying up so late to make these? Nah. Anyway, Gentium's tram system has expanded, and so here's the update map with major geological features added.

(Yes I know two stations on the Purple Line have no names. I forgot what I called those two originally and have to go back and check.)

(EDIT: 8/23/11 so the link actually takes you to the larger image)

I never thought of making a bus map... well, because, buses in SimCity 4 always go wherever a certain Sim has the whim to go. :/ I like the style of your maps, but if it were me, I'd anti-alias the lines....

Well I think it gives a polished look, but it's not truly necessary.

Wow, great maps guys :) Most of them look as though they were meant to be found on real maps!

Anyway, a little contribution of mine:

I haven't contributed in a while, and I saw that the thread had slipped to page 2!

9988 has an amazing CJ, The Greater Morsco, and it has an extensive subway system.

metroofthullia.png

I decided to create a couple of line diagrams for this system, like the ones you'd find on the platofrms of the Londo Underground. I tried to evoke an older style - tried to get it to fit with 9988's amazing feel for creating cities that look like they were built in the 1800s. I also tried to maintain the iconography used in the map above.

Well i was not sure this was the exact thread to show this.. but i found this neat web app that lets you make google style maps.. its a little confusing at first but once you get the hang of it its pretty neat.. anyways heres a link to view a quick map i made

Scribblemap test

I will try explain what to do.. when you "make" a map it gives you real world geographical data that you can customise etc.. you can choose from google, ms, yahoo.. but the best one is "scribble" this gives you a blank canvas.. import a screenshot.. or many region tiles..(not tried this yet) and bingo.. theres is your base map.. just like a google sat map.. add all your routes.. POI's etc and save. you can link it like i just did.. or widget it to a blog or website..

could be useful for Cj's me thinks :thumb:

Here's a system I'm working on for my city Idaho, which is a border city in an English speaking country to a country that is Germanic speaking. I've modelled the colouring and line style it partly on the Toronto subway system.

I'm taking a quick break from naming roads (1600-odd so far :boggle: ) to sort out Witanceaster's tram system. Naturally, that includes a map :)

rect4070.png

Southern end of the H, P, and W lines. Its a start...

Any comments or advice on how to make two arcs touch at a tangent point in Inkscape would be appreciated :)

@ humanleague - very nice map. The only thing I would consider (for added clarity) is to place the station name for Marina-Lakeshore the same way as for Marina-Vauxhall.

@ mastoff - very interesting! I'd like to se the names for all of the areas :)

@ joe90 - what? you're not finished with all the names yet? I like your tram map, although I wish the resolution was higher so i could read it more easily. Also, what do H, P and W stand for?

OK, it has been a few pages since I asked the audience to play 'what is this?'. Here goes with the second one...

What is this?

I thought at the start it'd take 6,000-7,000 names, but I might have underestimated. The 1600 names to date covers about a quarter of the city - but its the quarter with all the roadless hills in them!

I'll do a bit more on the tram map tonight and post a bigger version for you. Problem is they become very big very quickly - the roadmap at barely-readable size is about 10,000 x 10,000!

W stands for Walsall, P for Pelham, and H doesn't stand for anything. Officially, none of them mean anything, I just used letters because the buses use numbers. There are 22 tram lines in total using every letter except I, O, X, and Z.

...and here it is, blown up to visible proportions :)

rect4999b.png

Go nuts with any comments, criticisms, or minor irritations. I'm still experimenting a bit here too!

@ joe - one thing that strikes me is the bold colors (from the first 3 lines you showed) - they seem to draw the eye away from the station names. [Edit: although now I see you have 22 lines, might be hard to do anyhting else color-wise.] I wonder if the lines would look better with slightly more muted tones? Of course it could just be my computer ;) And a quick question - what font did you use for the tramyard label? I like how crisp and clean it is.

The colour is the sum of a few things - like using thicker lines so I can write in them. I'm not too bothered with bold colours themselves, more that 22 different bold colours is likely to clash quite horribly somewhere!

All the text is a knockoff of the London Underground font. Probably why it looks familiar :)

@Joe 90: Your map is awsome. It must have taken you so long to complete

Heres something I did for a monorail that goes to my airport.

Just a simple map from my up-and-coming Timbuktu Region Diary entry, although it's not half as good as what some of you guys can do! Simford Airport High-Speed (SAHS):

sahsroutemap.png

P.S. I'm currently using Create, but I may think about upgrading to a dedicated mapping tool. And if anybody has a bit of free time on their hands, I could really use some semi-professional logos for my region-wide transport system! Please let me know what you think.

@Benedict: I recall having seen somewhere London Underground's Circle Line drawn as an actual circle; is that the pic you're showing?

I did a London Underground as a circular map a few pages ago. This continues in that same theme, although this is not the LU. If I add one of the lines does it make it more, or less, clear?

Hmmm this one is tricky.....

Toronto LT and Subway and Washington Metro are the only ones I can come up with.

EDIT:My first Underground-Style Map. Thanks Duke for the amazing Tube Kit! Line names refer to waterways or rivers the line parallels.

It must be confusing with all those lines that split up into different sections (including your other maps). Which reminds me, the Northern Line in the London Underground will eventually be split into two fully independent routes, it seems, to increase capacity and reduce confusion! 46.gif

Love these maps Benedict ^^

And they also need to split the District line! It's a mess! (The Metropolitan is a mess too, but still we know where the trains are headed, sort of..it's not got over 9000 branches)

Ehehehe, I'm surprised my father can cope with the confusion! He commutes to London every day, but it's simpler from Kings Cross to Moorgate... Speaking of confusion and branch lines, I need to upload the map for the West Simford Tram, starting at Simford Intl' (see my original SAHS Map) and branching into 5 different lines!

I'm working on the map right now:

This is going to be the Genesis. Nothing special, just a subway map for the suburbs of a city I'm working for called Northwestern Sparrow. I've used Paint to do this, and this is just the beginning.

nssubway.png

Gray circles indicate stations serving a single subway line, orange circles indicate stations serving multiple lines.
