Hi there. I am thinking of making a map for my railway line but I'm not sure how to make one. I just need to know what website or software some people are using to make these great looking maps. Please let me know what the website or software is. I would appreciate that a lot.

THANKS! :)

Carlux, nice map, but the font looks a little like Comic Sans...

my first attempt at a road map.. not terribly happy with it; made it in gimp, which is like the photoshop to inkscape's illustrator. After seeing some really cool maps on here, I think I'm gonna start working with inkscape for these.

@ Baith3465: Great tram maps.

@ DAB_City: "Phase" is one of the words that is the same in all kinds of English :)

@ Mystic Destiny: any program where you can draw a line can be used to create a transit map. Phoptoshop, Inkscape, Paint, Gimp, Illustrator, etc. There is no software out there that will draw the map for you as far as I know.

@ Carlux_24: welcome - nice map, looking forward to see further development.

@ Mastof: wow, huge map, and it looks like you haven't even shown all of it...

@ Shingure: nice to see you back with a new map

@ AIX: we don't get that many street maps here - yours is fantastic.

@ Nathanthemayor: good to see the UCCRL streamlined

@ Ccecill: it's a good start... it will be better once you have the other streets drawn in.

Last version of Sedona! Added stations on U6 (Beverrijk North and South), U7 (Haarlemerweg), U2 (re-opened Quietland station), and U3 (north of Tribunal to Summerfeld).

Slightly redesigned parts of the map.

I have been looking over these maps for forever and working up the nerve (& the energy) to make my own transit map, mostly because a lot of these maps are really outstanding.

They seem to detailed and realistic to be of digital cities :golly:

and now my maps!

post-229802-0-51153200-1325810466_thumb.

this first one is the subway/tram map of my own city Buxton & the surrounding area

post-229802-0-75912600-1325810617_thumb.

this is the northern suburb of Orange and its tram line (it wouldn't all fit on one map)

what do you guys think of my first map? ? ?

Very nice map, one of the best I have seen. It reminds me in style of the transit maps of the Cologne Stadtbahn and U-bahn lines. Much influence by the KVB?

Indeed! I live in Cologne :)

However the initial design comes from Joe90's maps, I just adapted it to fit my own afterwards.

(You will notice many station names are in fact Cologne names. I named many streets in my cities after these.)

@Simcityguy : I know there is a file with pre-made pieces of lines, including many nifty symbols, directly based off the LU maps somewhere in this thread, if it can help you ;)

That would explain it. I used to live in Bonn, so the Brühl stop was the most familiar to me. Keep up the good work, and drink a Gaffel Kölsch for me :-). (I can only get Reissdorf out here and its not the same when its not vom Faß.)

Oh and, while I'm at it. Some station signs, related to the map above.

2h2eba1.png

Old style :D I posted one of these already. This style was used from 2009 to 2011, before the standard blue-on-white signs overcame them. Typically used indoors, and outdoors to complement shiny lit signs.

117tu9f.png

2011+ style. This is used for subway / tube stations proper. There is a white on blue back version existing for OUTER stations, typically shining (Netherlands way)

11aakh3.png

Same style; this illustrates same-platform interchanges (the bars are all interlinked).

wlppvb.png

Same style; this one shows a typical transfer station, U3 platforms (U8 platforms would have U8 emphatized).

Earlier there is mentions of outer signage, black or blue back and white writing in the same scale. Those are used in outer stations, and are lit at night. Every once in a while, they can be seen in some indoor stations - the original four stations of line U5 as well as its northern terminus are built in very different designs and along with the line reassigments, were outfitted with glowing signs. There are two different designs here; the blue (or black) version pre-2011, and the newer, cleaner signs from 2011 onwards. I'll upload some of these, but an old version can be found in earlier pages, outfitting an U5 station.
