What I know about Latin America is that there are usually quite a lot of parties that are represented in the parliament. They usually form some kind of alliance for general elections. This is very obvious in Brazil: they have about 30 parties in parliament. A bit like Italy, a country with a really complex political and electoral situation, and a bit of an anomaly in Europe.

The thing about Italy is that it's only been one country for about 150 years and was a bunch of smaller countries for a good 1500 years prior to that. It is certainly more unified now than it used to be but there is still a lot of regional variation within Italy about a lot of things.

Italians are also not known for being the type to be well-organized and cooperative. It took a brutal dictator to make the trains run on time, after all. :P

A question for the Australian members: how is it possible the Liberal/National-coalition still scores about 50% in TPP-polls? Is Tony Abbott really that popular?

What polls are you looking at? Last I heard Labor were edging ahead 54-46.

The overview on Wikipedia. True, Labor has an edge, but on the other hand, it's almost never more than a 10% difference. A score of 45% still seems a lot, because I don't have the impression he's doing a good job at all. Also, he has offended so many people. Are there really unoffended people left? :P

Japan is absolutely a conservative country.  The ruling (and conservative) LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) has been in power pretty much straight on since WWII (only an odd year or two here and there where they were unpopular) with very few parties able to make a dent in their power base.  The opposition DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) is like a slightly less conservative conservative party, and the Komeito is a religious party (Buddhist, I believe), also conservative.  Parties appear and disappear with pretty much every election, and there is one coming up in a couple weeks since Abe dissolved the parliament here, and they range the political spectrum, pick up very few seats, and have almost no impact on policy.  The JCP are the tiny communist party, and the Ishin (renewal, I think?) party are the mayor of Osaka's far-right party that he formed with Ishihara, the racist old mule who was the mayor of Tokyo for like 50 years.  The thing is, the Japanese culture is so entrenched and all-encompassing that while politics may change, very little about the way of life here has.  Technological advancements aside, I get the feeling that life is still fairly similar to the way it was during Edo Japan, or even further back.  I don't have much of an opinion on the politicians running Japan, other than I wouldn't trust the JCP very much with its close ties to China and anti-American stance.

4474: I tend to see Australia as being moderate on the World scale, more conservative than Europe but more liberal than the US. Whilst there are a lot of people in the cities, one must remember that the Sydney North shore is always going to be a liberal stronghold, not to mention the nationals have their country areas too.

So I finally got my Pono player, 2 years after signing up for it and 6 months after paying for it and I got to say, High res music does indeed sound awesome with it. I've had a few DACs, (Fio for example) But this one really is impressive, I still don't know who Neil Young is but he did a good job, he shipped it with one of his albums and it really isn't my taste so I dumped it but overall worth the wait.

What I hate about the whole Liberal/Conservative thing is that they always care more about making their philosophy supreme rather than actually solve the problems that beset their nation effectively.  Then the side without one of their members as president/governor/mayor/any other position of power, they scream and rage and rant until he's out of office.  Nothing ever gets done because of the wrangling between the two. Nothing will happen in Pennsylvania because we elected a Liberal governor (the previous Conservative was a horrible politician, though), and a completely Conservative senate.

    Woof.

The Libdems in the UK are, in comparison to the LDP (of Japan) farther left.  The LDP loves the US and is socially conservative, and many of its policies would be right at home in an American Republican's agenda.  The Libdems seem much more moderate, but I really don't know that much about them.

I finally got GT6 running on my PS3.  It has a moon buggy mission ON THE MOON.  It's easily the coolest racing game I've ever played.  Forza can take its Jeremy Clarkson and hide under a rock, GT6 has the moon buggy and the moon.

Meh, I have no loyalty to any console, only to the games on them. My PS3 is no longer of use to me so might as well make a few bucks unloading it. Meanwhile I am keeping my PS2 and PSP probably forever, but as of right now I have zero intention of getting a PS4. Not because of the consoles themselves but because of what games are or aren't on them.

My next new console will be a Wii U, because Smash Bros. Again, because of the game. The console is but a tool with which to play the game.

I have loyalty to both a particular console if you wanna say that (PCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCFTWCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC) and the games themselves, but loyalty mostly lies in the games I play. Of course, there are some games on consoles that I love regardless so I wouldn't rule it out completely. Most of them are aged now, a lot of the games the come out these days aren't as interesting as they used to be. They're pretty things that have no depth to them essentially.

And like Duke said, I actually still have the PS2 (gave my PSP to one of my brothers -- was never really that fun anyway) but I also have zero intention of getting any sort of Next-Gen console, now matter how many exclusive they throw in. #imdone

I am now the soon to be proud owner of a 20th anniversary PS4!

I had to submit my order about 18 times cause Sony's site kept crashing, I thought I lost it when it sold out in 15 mins but 4 hours later I get a confirmation E-mail!

To say I'm pumped is an understatement, only 12,300 were released globally.

I actually want to re-acquire a PS2 and get GT2 and older NCAA football games. They were just more fun than the ones I've played for PS3. I don't need hyper-realism, I just wanna have some fun.

    Congrats on your pickup, Larks!

The original Gran Turismo was a fun game. GT2 introduced some weird hypersensitivity in the controls that made it difficult to steer. Never played any newer versions.

Why oh why does central Australia have a timezone of UTC + 9:30? And why doesn't the whole country observe DST?

Why would you do such a thing?! :P

Australia is not as far south as you might think it is. The northern half of the country is in the tropics. DST doesn't really make sense there since the length of daylight over the course of the year doesn't vary by a terribly large amount.

The southernmost point on mainland Australia is only as far from the equator as Baltimore.

The southernmost point of anything we are generally regarded as owning (some forsaken islets in the South Pacific) is closer to the equator than Glasgow.

In contrast, the northernmost point on the mainland is about the same distance from the equator as Ho Chi Minh City, and the northernmost point total is around the same as Addis Ababa.

The northernmost city is the same as Lima.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I'm never racing online.  You can add me if you want, I'll accept your friend request or whatever it is for the whole PSN thing, but I really have no intention of entering contests in the online lobby.  Besides, I'm a crappy racer: I bump the AI cars and cheat by taking shortcuts wherever I can.

I don't like playing against humans who I don't know personally. It weirds me out a little. Sooo... I don't play anything online much. I either do single player or play with friends/family in person, the old fashioned way ("here, take controller 2").

GT6 is WAY more complete than GT5 ever was.  It's a much better-feeling game, at least once you spend the first three days updating it.  I think I liked GT2 the best though, because when it came down to it, there were an awful lot of cars in that game that I really, really liked.  I mean, it even had the 90s Dodge Avenger, which, regardless of how awfully unreliable it was in real life, was still a cool-looking car with a kickass name.

I hear what you were saying earlier Duke, but I see it a different way, as far as I am concerned if it don't release on playstation I won't buy the game at all, I'll buy a select few PC games but very few for the most part no PS port means the game is an automatic pass and I don't need it.

My friends are on PS and it is the only place I'd play a multiplayer game.
