I've never heard of this term, but it sounded like something else.

You probably have heard the term before (if not, I question the quality of the history curriculum in your school system), but forgot it, or weren't paying attention. It's a concept with considerable significance.

I had to read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (one of the most famous works in the genre) for my high school American history class.

I don't recall reading that one, Although the author's name sounds familiar.

I read that one.  I didn't appreciate it until well after high school, however.  I somehow managed to pass without doing a lot of the required reading, and it wasn't until I was graduated from college for five years before I started reading a lot more of the 'classic' stuff, hence my current literary obsession with Ernest Hemingway.

There were a lot of prominent works that were not required in my schooling that surprised me. To Kill A Mockingbird was one of them but luckily my dad suggested I read it when I was 12 or 13. It's still a favorite of mine and worth reading at any age. I also wasn't required to read Catcher In The Rye and by the time I had, at about 30 or so, it had missed its mark. I suggest reading that book while you're still a teenager. We were required to read Animal Farm though. That one always stuck with me. I still like Orwell.

I read The Catcher in the Rye in high school. It probably is better read at that age.

Never read Animal Farm but it is certainly on the list of books I would like to read if I ever find more time to devote to reading.

Never read To Kill a Mockingbird and for many years I mistakenly thought the name was "Tequila Mockingbird". The latter is the name of a Mexican restaurant in the next town over from where I grew up and I totally did not realize it was a pun.

Of course it also doesn't help that "tequila" and "to kill a" are pronounced nearly identically with a Connecticut accent.

There's a flower shop in a department store here.  Every time I buy my wife flowers from there, they last a really long time.  I think it's a good flower shop.

Feed them steroids and they will last, provided they don't get big enough to eat you.

I played Mario Kart on the Wii a while ago when we still played our Wii. It was the best Wii game. Now our Wii just collects dust under the TV...

I'm sure the recent shutdown of the WFC will prove to be a revenue booster for the 3DS and Wii U as those systems have wi-fi available.

Playing games "online" is an overrated feature since it is utterly perishable. A self-contained game can be kept around and played forever. But any online component dies the instant the publisher shuts the server down.

This is one reason why I think Duke Nukem 3D's online deathmatch mode was rather interesting. There was no dedicated server for online play. People who played against each other online could do so by using the now long-defunct "Total Entertainment Network (TEN)", but they could also do so by setting up their own connections. The game was not coded to require one specific connection type. This means the game is still playable online today should two people wish to do so, despite its original publisher having gone out of business in 2009.

Agree. I hate online MMO games. They just a waste of time, unlike games like SimCity, which I can learn how to manage a city properly.

I gotta disagree with that, as a hugely competitive person, I enjoy the online competitive battlefields and street racing more sometimes then the campaign themselves, to me online is an ever changing landscape dependent on the opponent's skillset, the campaign however is often a linear story that when replayed always yields the same result, I tend to play games till the novelty wears out and then dump them, It is extremely rare for me to return to an old game, It has to have something that really draws me in like Goldeneye 007 and Sim city did, and even then its only once in a great while because I have a hard time adjusting to the visuals after playing modern games, Going back to the N64, those games have not aged well however I have found that gameboy games like Pokemon Gold & Ruby do look very decent and when placed next to android or tablet games. they still hold their own, but the RCA connections on a new TV leave a lot to be desired.

I have to say I've been been very unimpressed with the downgration of Watch_Dogs, people say it is all about gameplay but how is it supposed to feel realistic if it is not looking the part? Its midway into 2014, we don't need to look like we are still supporting the Xbox and PS2.

I still play Quake occasionally on Quake Live. It's always good to see a 10+ year old game maintain a fanbase.

Yeah, I avoid online games because I'm not especially competitive, and most of the games that are online are just not any that I'm especially good at.  Getting online only to get my butt kicked over and over again isn't fun to me.  It's fine that other people enjoy it, though.
