I kid you not, this guy has made a city with 1.8 million people. See for yourself:

Sandbox mode probably, but I still have trouble believing it.

1,800,000 sims.

Only 145,000 are unemployed O_o

I guess it links in with the fact that your population figure is not actually directly representative of the actual amount of people. Which is actually better represented by the 145,000 jobless people?

145,000 + 73,000 shopper = 218,000 + 30,000 students = 248,000 compared to 1,800,000... o Maxis, o dear Maxis, you have wounded us grievously.

I don't get that.... why are unemployment stats important?

I don't get that.... any chance of explaining?

why are the unemployed stats important?

edit.....

ahhh maybe i should have looked at the pictures first

That city looks so out of place. It's a giant square surrounded by green grass. Something needs to be done about the city size.

is every "sim" looking for work?

is it reasonable to assume only 10% of $ are employable or is this not how the game is working?

edit....

wow maybe i should read up a bit... i didn't realise population figures were fudged....

ah well processing limitations i guess

I don't even know what to say about this and apparently it's not sandbox mode cause he does have locked buildings

after seeing this I would like to know how many sims high density buildings hold for each wealth

I wonder if this is due to processing limitations or Maxis created system that simply would make game unplayable if all sims would be simulated, just imagine how traffic would look like in 100-200k city (not to mention bigger), how many buses, streetcars etc would be required to manage it.

On the other hand running a city with many skyscrapers, high density buildings and having lets say 20k people (if numbers weren't fuged) would look weird and it's not fun to have such a small population.

short answer 400workers, 200 shopers, 100 students

long answer:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiK1gO7pmnQEdEVkck9adUNTU2hoclJoSEpTY21sdEE#gid=2

And the simplest solution would be to only count agents. The cities are so small already, no point in just outright lying about "population".

I may be slow - can someone enlighten me? What is this, some sort of test case?

Or is that supposed to be a 'functioning' city? What is the point (beside proving that you can squeeze 1.8m people in there)?

Heads are round so thoughts can take a turn

What is with the population markup? Even the actual stats don't say this city has 1.8 million inhabitants!

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I honestly don't know. Perhaps a glitch? I know people have reached 1 million before...but this is insane. Perhaps 90% of the population is homeless? He did name it "Megabumtopia"

I call BS on this. The biggest red flag in my opinion is that with no sewage system whatsoever, his 1.8 million population creates just a 6kgal/hr sewage treatment deficit. Also, there are no sick or injured sims in this city whatsoever (and no, having a 0% tax rate does not create "super sims").

Also. he has half the garbage that my city of 130K has, has somehow generated income with 0% tax rate, has some satisfied shoppers (with no C), has no industrial demand (despite no jobs) and no criminals.

My experience teaches me that building abandon after a very short time with no power or water.  So that doesn't make sense either.

But, without the ability to share saves, I dont know what we can do but take his word for it.

Actually that is the magic trick to accomplish this. As of this version, setting the tax to 0% makes the game kinda ignore all their needs. Buildings will keep going up even if the Sims ask for this or that.

This is somewhat old news at the official forum, here's a thread made by the owner of that city:

You can find another player share his 1M city using the 0% tax trick on the next page too.

Absolutely no jobs? Dang, that city a anarchist dream. :P But all jokes aside, I'd love for his city to be my neighbor so they can feel up some of my lower-end/poor jobs. My main city has no unemployment, 140k people although its suffered two disasters back to back that probably have lowered the population, 29k total jobs, and 10k open jobs. I've been trying to create poor people, but I really don't like how poor buildings look.

I think the point was for that one player to prove that this game fails as an accurate simulator.

    • I don't think having 1.8mil people in 4 square Km is realistic (or 450000 per km^2). The most densely populated city in the world only has a population density of 43,000 per km^2. SimCity missed realism by at least a factor of 10.
    • I would go into other bullet points about how a city with no services, power or water would almost overnight become a desolate wasteland of filth, disease, fire and squalor, but there's no point, you all know how stupidly unrealistic this city is.

The patch notes sound like they address this issue.

It sounds to me that you are no longer going to be able to make an R only server with no services and have it grow.

The R only cities just work when there is no other real city in the region. It does however work when you create a R-Region. You can visit such a R-only region on the Test server, it's the one with the top population.
