SimCity 4 Launcher - Updated (10/09/15) 1.5.4b - R12

I read this thread to try and find a solution to my issue but couldn't find anything. My problem is this: when I open up the SC4 Launcher, it takes a really long time for the menu to actually appear. At first I thought it was just failing to open, but checking on the Task Manager it shows that the process is running. It seems like the dialog for it only appears after I've started SC4 normally. Then it shows up, and I have to close the SC4 instance I have running to use the Launcher properly. Everything works fine once I get it to open, but it's a frustrating process. Any insights on this?

 

Windows 7, Steam installation, it's installed in my \common\simcity 4 deluxe\ folder.

hello... the newer Tab-UI is an improvement... however a few more tweaks to round it out... a 'help' and 'about' button... with the about also showing the latest version... also, everytime I start launcher, get a 'update check failed' box thats because I'm offline, its just one more thing to jump over to open the launch... over all its a good utility

I am also receiving this very same error, but only when I try to update.  It says there is an update available, but if I accept it I get this error.  I cancel it and all is good.

Yea, everything works fine when I cancel it. I tried running the update and the update window comes up and just sits there and does nothing.

SC4 Launcher has been working wonderfully for the past few days. However, just recently, whenever I launch SC4 through the program, it brings up a vanilla game. No extra regions, no plugins or anything. My guess is that it may have something to do with not loading the plugins folder for some reason. The game still loads perfectly the old fashioned way, though. I'm running 1.4.0b - R8.

 

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I figured I'd mention it.

 

 

EDIT: Hah! I just realized what it's doing. It's running from the plugins file on my computers Admin account, not my usual account. It is a SC4 Launcher problem, because loading the game from the .exe directly works fine. It doesn't bug me much because I can just move my plugins folder, but it may bug someone else. Just thought I'd let you know, if I'm not the only one.

Amongst them:

 

-EH:off - Disables exception handling, leading to a much faster/smoother shutdown of the game. If you're experience the game process hanging when you close it and/or leave to region, this should solve that.

2. Flagging as Large Address Aware (LAA)

 

NOTE: Will only work for users with 4+ Gigabytes of RAM on 64-bit operating systems.

 

This will enable SimCity 4 the use of more than 2GB of RAM. This should solve CTD/lag problems related to large or decorated cities. If you notice your game stuttering or crashing when your cities get bigger, or if you have a large plugins folder, flagging LAA on the exe should alleviate this

 

Can you tell me if the launcher supports these? My guess is that #2 is independent of the launcher, i.e. I can flag the main EXE (or the launcher?) myself, but I don't know for sure.

Well, after I posted, I applied the LAA utility to both SimCity4.exe, and the launcher, and it works - as in loads OK, anyway. It's apparently smoother but I did it with a few other changes, so hardly scientific.

The person who made this launcher has obviously lost complete interest in it and has stopped all support for it.  I have switched to the newer launcher as a result.

I don't understand what has made you come to that conclusion, I now have a small team that Beta-Test every new release and have already released an Update that addresses about the problem you were having, it's available on the STEX.

You don't.  Don't you have a short-cut on your desktop?  If not, make one.

I pin my shortcuts to the Start menu instead of the desktop. Keeps things nice and clean. Not a fan of the desktop being completely cluttered with icons.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this program. I used to have random crashes and tried everything I could find to stop it. After installing this, I no longer have crashes and my game looks and runs 100 times better than before. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and this solved all my issues. Thank you again!

I'm trying to use this launcher with the origin download of the game, however whenever I launch the game via the launcher the process appears for a couple seconds and disappears, meaning the game doesn't launch.

 

Any reason why this is? The game works when launched via origin.

Yes, the launcher doesn't consider origin's weird structure when applying its options.  One should refrain from Steam and Origin because they mess with the structure in the file system everyone has been using for that last 10 years.  Easiest is not always the best.

When I try to use the launcher, SC4 hangs at the splash screen.  Same thing happens when I try and directly run SC4 without selecting "Run as administrator," so I assume that's the reason its not working through the launcher either.  Is that an option?

I'm not sure about within the launcher, but this can be done with an application settings tweak.

 

To run the game as an administrator, go to your SimCity 4.exe file (located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps"). Then right click > Properties > Compatibility tab. There should be a checkbox to enable this privilege level. Finally click 'Apply' and it will take affect every time the game is started, even when using the launcher or a shortcut.

Assuming the build level of your game is at least 1,1,638.  Also, hang at the splash screen could mean you have no sound system plugged in.

I have installed Simcity4 recently on a new computer, and I'm having a problem with custom resolution, so I found this launcher.

But whenever I try to enter the game using it, a missing CD error pops out. 

 

I tried to reinstall the game, and the launcher, but that didn't solve it. 

Any ideas?
