SimCity 4 Launcher - Updated (10/09/15) 1.5.4b - R12

I tried to copy the simcity4.exe file into the apps folder to replace the other simcity4.exe that is there, so now the launcher does launch the game but what I get is a black screen for a while, and then it crashes.

 

 

& when I launch the game normally, I only get a streched resolution and a lagging game.

I can't imagine why it wants a CD.  I guess you'll have to contend with the manual fixes to the shortcut.  Here is my command (target) line if it will help you:

 

"C:/Program Files (x86)/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe"  -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:directx  -f -CPUcount:1

 

I'm on Linux, so for / read \.  The highlighted item is probably what you are looking for.  This line is set to hardware rendering.

I installed it, it never worked, I uninstalled it, now SC4 won't load. I have windows 7 64bit. I've tried all the options with it on, nothing, with almost all combinations but still nothing. I thought uninstalling it would work, still nothing. Also a desktop shortcut kept copying itself randomly, so I had the ones it created, and then one kept copying itself intermittently.

This is rather incoherent.  Just what is your problem?  And I'd suggest a new thread for your problem.

First of all I want to say this mod as been a well welcome for me as I play this game more than anything else and I've gotten so pissed from crashes i've quite playing for months at a time.  I will say after using this mod for sometime now I have had no problems other than the save mode.  If the rare occasion I am building something that has a menu up like making bridges and it automatically saves my game always freezes up.  My mouse goes to the picture as if i was in the regional map and nothing responds.  I eventually hit the windows button to back out and when I return it goes to a black screen and only the mouse icon is present and responsive.  When I look in my task manager I which i have watched for serveral minutes before and it never shows as not responding.  So from that point i've tried everything i could think of.  So I shut the game down and restart.   When it does the save never took place and i've lost my time up to the previous save.  It seems to catch me doing this more and more and is starting to bring a little frustration back.  If you could look into fixing this bug for the next update.

Looks like you have permission trouble on your program.  If you are going to use the Launcher and it wants to write your files, you have to set up write permissions on those files.  I can't imagine why it would want to do this.  In any case, I would just modify the shortcut and forget such an invasive program.

I get a 'Steam: Error launching application' when I try to use the launcher. I assume it's because I have the game saved to an external HD. Is there not a fix for this yet?

Have you got an override coded in the target line?  If you have a -f option in the target change it to -w.

I find this doesn't work for me either, how about just not auto-updating, it's not really a priority like say updating your anti-virus or critical windows files? I think since I downloaded it over a year ago there was maybe one update.

 

To answer the auto-save question (been a while) I think it literally just activates the keyboard command "CTRL + S" every 10 minutes (or whenever you set), quite simple and harmless. Unless you didn't want to save those changes you just made, hence autosave isn't for me.

Actually, if you use the command line options (on the target in your shortcut) you don't need this gadget.  This article describes all the command line options.  Just be careful to get the syntax right: each option starts with a space followed by a hyphen ( -) and must be spelled exactly.  Values are separated from the option word by a colon ( : ).  You do this once and then you are set.

 

There is a separate download for a mod that reminds you to save.  I don't use it any more because I have my hand trained to do it, ad lib.

 

Not using this program simply removes a middleware item.

That sounds like something that is not programmed in the launcher.  So you will have to learn to edit the shortcut's target box yourself.  Do it once, and you won't need the launcher any more.  Here is the options page.

Sorted in latest R9 release, it's been a long time coming really, been very preoccupied by stuff IRL.

 

Either way, I have set-up a repository for it now, and am in the process of cleaning it up, so expect more updates soon. I own a Domain now, so I don't have to reply on Dropbox for the updates, thank-god, so hopefully no more breakages.

 

Happy to see this is still getting good use.

The above message appears immediately upon launch.  After clicking OK, the program seems to work fine.  However, it's annoying enough for me to discard this app.

Unfortunately this is not within my control, that would be caused by an out-dated or broken version of OpenSSL, and is not something I can fix, I can, on the other hand, give you a link to an update of SSL.

I will try and replicate the issue and see if I could implement a work-around, but I can't guarantee anything.

It's not a case of needing the security, it's a case of many sites being TLS/SSL as default, and if you request a non-encrypted page, they redirect you to the secure version.
