I'm a big fan of huge populated cities, so here's what I built in 1 hour. Nothing special only nearly 12 million residents.

Be realistic. There are NOT 12 million sims on these pics. I know I have a region with 11 millions and it takes MUCH more than what you showed. How about a region picture?

mrb

Edit:.............unless you have 10K tenants in each block ( and even then) ;)

when ugliness turns beautiful.

love the monotone "sadness" (in lack of a better word) this city has...

That is the definition of a concrete jungle!

Not quite sure how that level of density could possibly be sustainable. Surely, without some form of industrial / commercial zoning they would abandon rather quickly. It doesn't look like a feasible way to build a city (without cheating of course).

Here you go the picture as a prove. I once occupied the whole zone with 16 million residents. Mostly of highrises has btwn 3-7k residents.

Maybe later, when I'll have more free time, I'll try to break my record and reach 20million population. (current record 16million)

Where are nearly 8 million commercial jobs coming from? Do you have a work-at-home mod? (Which would be cheating by my standards :P)

I build a lot of Kwik E mart (2x1 plop market) ,then with program SC4 Tool changed jobs to 65k.

That, sir, is definitely cheating. ;)

Now let's see you do the same thing the natural way, by growing all the necessary jobs.

Work-ate-home isn't a cheat, not for my standards, homeworks are the most expansive area in jobs category.

Maybe changing numbers of commercial jobs and residents is not considered cheating (besides I don't care when one cheats in his own game, I do it all the time) but I stay on it that this does NOT contain 11 million residents to Standard Statistics. You have altered the stats on these lots for sure. The reason I say this is because an 11 million resident region is way larger than this.

I didn't change buildings number at all, as I explained. I once did a 16million populated city on a large zone. I changed only commercials.

I just built a new one with 18 million. If mrbisonm wants I can open the buildings tab and you can see how many residents lives there.

I must speak in favor of the occupation figures, bear in mind that many stock highrises hold several 1000s of sims:

    Project Hope: 6517

    Project Bootstrap: 6978

    Hamster Tenements: 8146

    Simland Hi-Rise: 8060

    Tina's Tenements: 6260

    ...

just to name those R$ beyond 5000, and I can assure you this city tile houses many many many of these

just to make a small calculation for the Hamster Tenements, highest occupation residential building from the unmodded game, which sits on a 4x4 lot:

the number of sims from the screenshot (some11.8mio) would take 1454 Hamster Tenements... 1454 times a 4x4 lot would be covering 23264 tiles... 35% of a large city tile.

considering that obviously not all houses are the Hamster Tenements, there's streets aswell as a commercial booster and that the city tile is covered to about 3/4, I'd like to go ahead and call the number of residents at least not impossible with standard statistics residential housing

However, it's impossible to get such an high amount of residents if you provide them with jobs with unmodded buildings. Then the jobs will also take up half of the city tile...

I was pointing out that you don't actually need to mod commercials AND residentials (what mrbisonm insists on happening here) to achieve such a high number of residents because the stock game comes with more than insanely high occupancies already (just look at Hamster Tenements and ask yourself: how the hell do 8146 sims fit in this house?)

so, if you go and mod a small lot to offer the maximum amount of jobs (65536) and tomas said he did that with a 2x1 lot... thats "just" about 180 of them, covering 0.005% (360tiles) of a large city tile to offer jobs for the 11.8mio residents shown in the screenshot.

Without any modding, yes, there's no way to even remotely fit almost 12 million into a single large tile, but that was never the case here

EDIT: in theory, with lots modded to maximum capacity, no demands but jobs and a 1:1 job/inhabitat ratio, you can come up to over 2billion sims in a large city tile (1x1 lots, 65536 inhabitants or jobs per lot, 65536 tiles on a large city tile, 4.29billion jobs and inhabitants, divided by 2 to reach the 1:1 ratio, thats 2.15billion inhabitants)... just saying...

Impressive that you managed to get that many high-rises built. It would have been more impressive had you built the city without cheat buildings, but still, I've never seen such a populous city before.

11m is not a bad achievement, no matter if one tile or an entire region. Good job :)

Tomas1990, some people consider any alteration to the original game "cheating", some going as far to brand that to so called essentials like the NAM. If you can justify your alterations as real world, feasible equivalents, that's your definition. Just take a look at some of the CJs aon the site, and how much they differ!

Have fun with your concrete jungle though; as long as you still find the game fun, I guess that's all that matters. :D

Where are the commercial buildings and for that matter industry? 12 million people and not one job? What sort of mods did you use to alter the RCI demand?

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage
