Lol, no, that's just a 'prototype model' I used to measure and plan out the lot size. Its just boxes plopped onto a lot. I do that with all my models before I start making them. The actual model looks much different, much more detailed, but you'll have to wait  :P

I did get a nice view of Hamer Hall Saturday night on the tram, before I had to worry about those pesky ticket inspectors :P

And I definitely cannot wait to see Fed Square! Part of me wants to try and attempt the one corner you haven't touched of that intersection, although you would make the LED billboard look great at night.

It is outstanding, probably one of the best BATs ever made. Congratulations on another achievement :D

Anyway, congratulations :) And how does it have more downloads than views.

This is great! Having visited Melbourne last month, I have now seen many of these in person. If I was to request anything I saw from my trip that is not already on your list on page 1, it would be the Royal Exhibition Building/ Carlton Gardens (possibly as a sub for the Maxis convention center)  and the Hotel Windsor (CS or CO $$$). And the Shrine of Remembrance too.

Thanks again for your awesome Melbourne stuff :)

Thats a great photo Schulmanator, did you take that? You can just see my place on the the left ;) Thanks for the suggestions, both the royal Exhibition Building and the Shrine were on my intended list, but you're quite right they weren't listed on the front page. The Hotel Windsor... omg.. I nearly fell off my chair thinking about BATing that one... great suggestion though.

Muxcomee, yep, the Cathedral is probably next, and also Optus Centre. Freshwater Place after that :)... as for  more downloads than views, hard to say. Presumably people are downloading more than one colour and/or the city road underpass.

Yoshi - I saw what you did with the bridge.. love it! Very creative, looks great :thumb:

Thanks for posting nice comments everyone :)

Here's a finished.. ? Cathedral... the only thing I'm not convinced of is the ivy on the back wall.. let me know what you think? Time to start on the night lights.
    Thanks for comments everyone :)
Edwardjeria - oh yes.. the Southern Star.. Melbourne's embarrassing equivalent of the London Eye
Skyscraper - The entire section of Little Bourke Street between Swanston & Russell Streets is China Town.. I thought every city had a China Town lol.. ooh.. that might cool to do some stuff along there... :O
Sgt. Pepper - funnily enough I was just thinking the other day its a bit limiting just doing Melbourne buildings... but then again still heaps of cool buildings to make!
Yoshi - Might need you to show me which ones you mean?

    Here's the latest Cathedral:

Ps. Does anyone else have that thing when you press the Shift key while typing it kicks you out and back to the main forum window and you lose everything you typed? >.<

Why would you put ivy there though? Doesn't that part of the building face another building in a W2W fashion?

Correct, but just wanted to make it a bit more versatile. If it has another W2W next to it you won't see the ivy anyway, but with ivy, you could put a park or cemetary next to it... dunno.. the totally big blank wall just looked a bit odd. I think the problem is the scale, the leaves are massively too big atm.

Sydney has some great architecture, but the skyline is really dense and even... and a lot of 70s monstrosities

Yea true Sydney does have some truly fugly buildings as well as the good ones, you might also consider Brisbane...or maybe go even farther afield and look overseas (cough Tuntex Sky Tower cough).

    Those coloured windows!!

Btw, I totally agree about the ivy - both in terms of scale (too big) and concerning its purpose (good thought!). That's the problem with true-to-life recreations: They take a building from its context, which may make it more difficult (or even awkward) to use in game. That - beside technical limitations of older hardware and software - is probably why Maxis (and most BATters in the past) opted for an "inspired by", "adapted from" or "recognizable as an interpretation of" approach.

The trend towards full-blown recreations with all bells and whistles is rather young, and not entirely without problems. Therefore, I welcome clever strategies to overcome these problems. And by "clever", I mean changes that alter the appearance of the building as little as possible while increasing its versatility as far as possible. Adding the ivy is just such a solution. While the execution is not quite there yet, I'm fully behind the concept and welcome the thought put into it.  :)
