I changed my vote from "fix the map size and online-only issues" to straight up no. They need to take this game back to the drawing board.

Nicely said.

I will Never buy this game in the form its gonna be released in march 5. They said "real cities don't exist in a bubble". But the SimCity exists in a "square shaped bubble with a constant area!". I need to have more region play.. You cannot have a packed 2km x 2km city, with no man's land a feet away from border.. Where were the brains of the devs?

Where the paychecks are

OnT: Haven't decided yet. Mods brings in so much fun into the game. And what if my internet goes down for like a day? Should I be without SimCity - the perfect game to play when internet is down - when internet actually is down? :lost:

You'd be mad to get this at release. After about two weeks sales will drop off like a cliff and after a couple of months it will be so much cheaper.

I already bought the game. So yes.

I guess after playing the Beta/Promotion, it just confirmed they took the game the direction Id always wanted it to go. Materials, trade, politics and fluid city design were always on the top of the list of features I wanted added to the game.

As a avid Simcity 4 farmer, I was really disappointed by the lack of farming and food. I suspect that will be added later. Tying in water resources, soil fertility, weather, pollution and so many other elements to farming was probably a bear of a project and why it wasnt added at the start.

Terraforming, transportation and so many other features I imagine will be added to Sandbox.

I really suspect the sandbox version and the online version will be developed as side by side games. With modding and serious custom content on the sandbox.

In anycase, cant wait to start playing.

Yea honestly, farms are the only thing I really think are missing from the new game that I'm really that disappointed about. With all the specialized city options, a farming community would be perfect.

It's very tempting to buy a copy.  I'm really disappointed with the small city size -- 2km square, that's like an SC4 small quad, right?  The region display also looks strange with the cities spread apart, unlike the realistic regions I created in SC4, and the terrain you play on is flat, mostly land, quite boring.  On the other hand, the complicated simulation in Simcity 2013 looks interesting and the graphics are beautiful!  I also appreciate that EA's trying to include legitimate multiplayer features in this game, better than the silly shared region(s) on the SC4 site back in the day.

Considering my disappointment with the feature set, EA does deserve some pocketbook punishment.  I think what I'll do is wait for something like the Battlefield 3 Premium package where after a few months you get all the addons so far for a big discount.  On the other hand they might go with the Sims 3 model where they do discount promotions on the base game and individual addons... that would be good too!

Always-on connection is a non-issue for me and I don't understand why people complain.  Assuming EA has sane use cases for situations where you don't have a connection, why is it a problem if the company protects its investment in developing the game?  Now, if they have something like the Ubisoft DRM where the game exits if your wireless network loses connection for a moment, that's something outrageous; however, do we know that's what the DRM will be like?

From what I've read from Maxis and people who have used the beta, the game will tolerate disconnection for several minutes. It warns you as soon as it disconnects. After that, it will quit.

always online, no terraforming, charging for DLC for items that should have been in the $60-$80 base game, in the first place - no thank you!

'Real cities don't exist in a bubble', well real cities aren't built on a postage stamp either, couple this with always-online, day-one DLC and a distinct lack of detailed control in a 'detailed' simulation and I'm definitely NOT going to buy it.

This game is going to sell HUGE.

I really pity the people saying they arn't going to buy the game because of some preconcieved idea of how Maxis should do the game their way and how Maxis didn't give them everything they wanted in the first release. Your loss.  It doesn't matter if you few buy or not as the game is going to sell huge without you.

I just played SC4 again because I could not put my jones for SC 2013 away. :golly:   But it was so dated and it sucked so bad after having played the beta of SC 2013 that I just could not spend more than an hour or so before getting bored with it and closing it down.

I really can't wait for the 5th! :D

Apples and Oranges mate.

No one is suggesting that SC4 is not dated; we all know it is 10 years old.  But what's interesting, is that you thought you could compare the new SC to a 10 year old game.

Wasn't comparing the two Slick.  I'll rephrase: I was Jones-n for SC 2013 so much I decided to play SC 4 as a week substitute.  It was so dated that I only got an hour from it before I bailed.  Understand now?

I will consider buying the game IF they heavily increase map size and IF they change the way regions work.

Also, I'm waiting to see what they're going to do with DLCs. As soon as I start seeing stupid DLCs with a few buildings and such I'm going to put the game on stand-by until a GOTY comes out.

I've already written what I think about the game market nowadays, I'm hoping the game will sell a lot less copies they predicted. This is the only way to make them understand they must ask players' opinion about the most important parts of the game before making decisions about them.

Micro transactions, Downloadable content, yes its easy to blame EA, but it is only here because we keep buying it.

We all are really desperate for a new Sim city, we waited a long time, but sim city 2013 is not that game, its another expencive dissapointment that will only lead to more if you dont start thinking about what you buy.

Pre-orders for the game are selling gangbusters because the game looks to be fantastic.

DLC is going to do the same.

The game can only get better.  I can't wait for the 5th.

I'm still torn as to if I should to buy.

It looks fun but i worry ill get bored after a while, the always online worries me that it could do a Cities XL. It would not surprise me if pirates some how manage to create an offline server from leaked files... it always happens some how. Making the whole online thing mandatory pretty mute.

And the price is ridiculously high. £60~ for the game with the DLC...... just retarded.

Are they not aware most of us are living in an economic down fall at the moment yet prices go up.

From the moment I bought SC4 a few years ago, I've been hooked. It's the only PC game I ever play. When I saw the trailers for the new SC game, I was blown away, salivating for it's upcoming release.

But then I read the cons, particularly the always online game play (mercy of server owner to play game I paid them for? PASS!), no terraforming (what genius decided that was a good idea?!?) and the small maps issue (I still can't believe they expect this to sell well with that limitation).

I've decided to just stick with SC4 and all my mods thanks to all you generous folks who've shared them with us. I'll wait until most of you play and see what EA addressess, corrects/holds back to charge you later for, etc.

They should do it based on the same way the game has progressed in the past. The games were succesful because each iteration was "their" way and so they bought it. It's a bit ridiculous to think those that have bought these games in the past shouldn't have a say because it isn't a first release, it is a fifth.  They can call it a reboot all they want, but it means absolutely nothing beyond an excuse to milk the money throughout it's life. I am dying for the game, however, I am not the slightest bit optimistic. I just don't trust EA.

In my limited opinion, as I haven't been reading up on it for all that long, I don't think it is going to be the smash hit. My regular daily forum I call home hasn't spoken a word about it in at least the last few months. Not a single post.

The online only requirement is a deal breaker for me  so I will be sticking with my modded SC4. It may be dated but I still enjoy playing and at least my continued play is not reliant on external servers that may or may not be available in future when I want to play. This isn't the only game I've decided not to buy recently due to online reliance.

I have already purchased this game and I am very excited to start building.  I have not played SimCity in ages and this game from what I have played from the beta and the online videos has really caught my attention.  It breaks up the everyday go and shoot them up FPS games for me.  I know but this may sound crazy I look at this as an educational tool for some people to help show how building a city works.  Nothing more pleasuring when your 2 young kids are looking over your shoulder and asking you to put a park in for children or a school bus stop in the neighborhood.  Its better then having them asking me "did you die?" or "did you shoot that guy?"

For those mad about the online ordeal..... get with the times!

Also anyone looking to join up and participate as a region/team. Check out Friend Finders Association (FFA) in the group section.  We are looking for freinds to help build regions.

Despite the impressive scenery and decor of the game, and the livelihood of the cities (due to glassbox), and even some awesome aspects like the in depth disasters...

I'm still leaning on the "not yet" side.

Seriously, it's a shame things like No Man's Land and the lack of a God Mode are both prevalent. The perks of the game are too amazing!!!!

The last couple weeks made me appreciate the small detail put into this game a lot more, and it truly does look beautiful... Hell, now I'll just settle for having either the Region's look fixed OR a God Mode (or some type of region editor), and I'll seal the deal and buy the game.

Im just waiting on the map size to be fixed. I can deal with the rest. It would be a shame if they linger on this one as id pay 100 for it otherwise. The only alternative is to wait until it hits the bargain bin.

Online only, Online store, tiny maps and small buildings.

Not to mention that your paying almost double price for a unfinished game.

Im not surprised over 200 people voted yes, some people are desperate to try a new Sim City that they are willing to pay anything.

If the price was 200 dollars for a normal copy people would still buy it

Its quite sad.

I think im gonna stay put in Ctiies XL, from what i have seen so far im not impressed.

I'll probably buy it, eventually.. I bought SC4 straightaway, Rush Hour when it came out and recently purchased it again on Steam. I don't like Origin and there are plenty of features in SC2013 I cannot wrap my head around (we get to build dirt roads, but not farms, we can't terraform, the regions, the DLC, the pricetags, etc.).

I'll wait for an ultimate edition to come out someday, after the community has been sufficiently milked for all they're worth on DLC and expansions. While I'm waiting for that day, I'll keep on playing SC4.

If I had never played the beta I would have held off purchasing this game but after five hours of heaven I am DEFINITELY getting this game. The city tile size didn't irk me that much and if you want to go all high density I reckon you're going to have to utilise at least several other neighbouring cities, so in my opinion there's a lot to do. The frame rate barely decreased when I had completely filled up my city so I reckon a 4*4 tile could be manageable on my computer.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

It's okay because thankfully this community represents a tiny minority of the people who will be buying this game. To shun it completely for limited map size and the lack of contiguous city tiles is quite frankly overkill, even more so if you have not tried the beta. Worse people are pointing fingers at Maxis and EA when their (this community) demands will eventually be met in a year or so's time. No wonder EA spends so much time marketing when people are so fickle and even the hard core fans are bickering over certain aspects.

This is a solid game, not perfect but it will be with some expansion packs, I have played the beta and I haven't felt this excited in a long time. The kind of excitement I had playing SC 2, 3 and 4, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, CIV 4 and other great games I played in my childhood. The beta -- the stripped down version of this game -- did not feel flat at all, I wanted MOAR!!! More time to explore all the features, to see high density buildings, to test out strategies and city design.

Again I hope this game sells really well, and if the majority of this community shuns the game I really hope they are a tiny minority who WILL NOT be responsible for destroying a really good new SC game, because you may have to wait another ten years or longer if you're hoping some hardcore fans will create the 'perfect' SC game. Seriously we are <this> close to the mother of all SC games and... It's crazy.

For me this game will be perfect if Maxis decide to design regions SC4 style and introduce 4*4 tiles, and I have a feeling they will providing this game doesn't flop.

Finally I thought I would never hear myself say this but let's hope EA's marketing pays off and sales off this game are strong.

Whether I purchase SC5 depends entirely on how modding is introduced into the game. If there are any notable constraints to it, for instance through micro-transactions or something, then it's an automatic no-deal for me. But we'll see...

I can deal with origin and the cloud-save, no problem. And some of the features seem very promising. But I really want to see modding that will let the imagination and creativity of a large and devoted player community to flourish. Currently I think it's crucial in regards to my decision to buy the game. I won't buy it at the start of the release, since the complete set is quite expensive.
