Nothing you can do about other cities traffic in general.

I recently figured out something interesting with power. I built a city with a massive amount of square blocks. Each block is the size of one high density building. I surrounded the blocks with avenues. Lots of crossroads and cul-de-sacs. OK, so the city did fine until I added in a couple of processor factories on the other end of the city from my power plant. That's when I noticed that even though I had a massive amount of excess power, my processor plants were not getting power once in a while. It seems that the more crossroads and cul-de-sacs you have the less chance your power will get from one side of the city to the other in time to keep large consumers happy. I had to kill the city as it would not run correctly.

Does Anyone Ever Use Nuke Power?
Zpike replied to Zpike's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Place a Trade Depot with easy access to both the power plant and the city exit. Assign two slots set to "import" for the resource you need for power and give it all 4 trucks. That will solve your resource issues with power plants. -
Excellent advise however what I'm trying to figure out is if there is any way to figure out (in game) what the worker demand is for any given building.
-
Anyone know how to tell what wealth level of workers a specialty building needs? I click on my smelter and it does not seem to give me any indication of what it needs worker wise when it is complaining.

Hmmm... Well this is not restricted to building a GW. I just had about two thirds of my trucks vanish in a city that was alone in a region with no GW. I'm having a hard time playing these days with all the problems with industry and tourists... Trade trucks don't deliver ore to smelters. Trade trucks don't deliver plastics to factories. Trains don't ever arrive at Trade Port Train stations. Trade trucks vanish. Tourists either don't come at all or they come for a while then stop or they come in droves to a city that doesn't want them. I now have a repro for vanishing trucks and / or bad trade trucks bugs.... Find a city with lots of Ore, Coal, Water, and train access. Build two each Mines for Ore and Coal with all the trucks and Mining upgrades. Build two Trade Depots, buy all the trucks for them too, and set both to export both Ore and Coal, two slots each on each Trade Depot. Wait for the Mining HQ. Build it. Wait for the Smelter upgrade and build it. Then build 6 Smelters all in a row with all the trucks, one Metal, and two Allow upgrades. This will give you two each Metal and Alloy upgrades on each Smelter as the Smelter comes with one Metal upgrade. Add Alloy and Metal exports to one of your Trade Depots and remove it's Ore and Coal exports. Set the other to "use local" for Ore and Coal. Wait for the Trade HQ and build it. Wait for the Metals upgrade and build it. Now destroy your Trade Depots and build two Trade Ports WITH Train Stations and set one to exporting Alloy and Metal, 3 slots each, and the other to "use local" for Ore and Coal, three slots each. Also buy all the trucks for each Trade Port. Just destroy the Freight slot on each Trade Port, you don't need it. If your Mines run out switch your Coal and Ore Trade Port to "import". Set to Cheetah speed and wait. Right away you will notice your Smelters will run out of Ore and not get refilled very often because your Trade Trucks are traveling all over the region for some reason instead of using the Train Station of your Trade Port to sell and buy. The trucks seem to be selling and buying instead of delivering goods, or maybe they are just joy riding, I have know idea. They will however always seem to get enough Coal to your Smelters. Maybe it's a union thing? After a while you will also start to notice that your Smelters and Mines are all jammed up with product. They will start to shut down due to being full. That's because your Trade Trucks are vanishing and nobody is delivering anything any more. That's definitely a union thing.

I can't see any reason to take a chance on a nuke plant when there is a possibility that I will trash my entire city if it fails. Why have something in the game that only a fool would place in their city? I would guess that if they have usage statistics on the nuke plant that there are less than .05% of cities that actually use one.

Ever notice that when you lay down an avenue then attempt to lay down a road parallel to it that the map's dotted grid will show guidance at the wrong distance from the avenue? WTH? I would expect the grid to show me the correct distance for high density buildings on both the avenue and the road however it places the guidance at a spot in between the for the road. If you follow their advice you will have high density buildings on the avenue but there will be a gap up next to the road that will only allow low density buildings to be built. As a work around I am forced to lay down a park that is the same size as a high density building, then lay down the road using the park as a guide. Kind of sucks having to do that all the time. Anyone know another work around?

I did find out that deleting the garage for individual lost trucks WILL bring a new truck in. And I don't seem to be loosing trucks unless I start work on a GW. Then my trucks go nuts and I have to constantly replace them to keep the city running. After the GW work is complete I close everything down and replace all trucks that are missing. Then restart services and I seem to be ok after that.

#! - Missing trucks has always been a problem since the start of this game. #2 Saying I don't need to recycle so it's not a problem is being blind to the issue. #3 Yes, traffic, number of intersections along the path, and placement of the town hall is also part of the problem. It's still broken. #4 Yes, I know I'm correct that it's a problem. The no trucks bug has to do with the great works. It only happened when I was sending alloy and metal to the GW. I have also played since day one and only experience sporadic truck losses. This is the first time I have seen a mass exodus of trucks.. I verified it by turning off all buildings with trucks and I waited until all trucks were gone from the streets. I then went through and counted the empty garages. All the trade buildings had no trucks in them. One or two other buildings (mines, smelters) were also missing a truck or two. I turned them all back on and waited an hour and turned them back off and checked again. Same story. The trucks were just gone. I did find that I could go through and delete the individual empty garages and re-plop them to get the trucks back. However I continued to loose trucks as I delivered alloy and metal to the GW. I had to continue to replace trucks to keep my fleet going. There is another problem with trade trucks. If you have three of four trade depots and turn one or two off, you will notice that your trucks will go to the first trade depot even if it is off and remove or place materials there based on their original instructions. This works the same for depots with differing instructions. Trucks from one trade depot will return to another trade depot. So lets say you have one trade depot on use local and another on export for the same material. The use local truck will return to the export depot instead of the use local depot if the export depot is higher in its internal list. Then if the export depot has metal or alloy to sell the truck will just pick up a load there instead of going back to the use local depot. If you have a lot of work in the export depot ALL your trucks will work there instead of going back to the use local depot and that depot will NEVER get anything done. Also, if you have six or ten smelters you will find that your trucks delivering ore to them will always go to the first in line and work their way down toward the last smelter. This causes the last smelters on the list to almost always fail to get ore for operation. I added four or five trade depots next to the offending smelters and they would still not get ore even though all the trade depots were full of ore. This seems to be caused by the way the notifications happen. The smelter will send out an invisible notification when it needs ore however the notification will do the usual random turns at intersections and this will cause the mines and trade depots to get the notification really late or even not at all if there are several intersections along the way. Vehicle movement is just broken. I can't understand why they have not fixed it in the months they have been live. I'm tending toward believing it's an issue core to the engine and may need a significant rewrite of the core engine to fix. They put in a couple of vehicle fixes targeted toward fire trucks a month or so back. I guess they are just hacking in a fix for specific vehicle types and not going for the overall rewrite the vehicle code needs. And yes, I was really pissed of when I penned this post. And no, I have not quit even though I said I was through. I went back in today and found a work around for the missing trucks bug and got my GW built.

Sims Can Not Find Shops or Parks
Zpike replied to Aussie123's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
What they said above and also make sure you have your taxes set to a level people can stand. They get more and more sensitive to environmental factors the higher your taxes are. -
Upgrade your roads to high density. Put higher wealth parks around your city center and lower wealth parks in the outer areas. Put city services and parks in a centralized location spread out in a circle around the area you want to grow. The influence is additive and one park wont change things. You need the influence of several parks and services buildings to upgrade the area to higher density / wealth. You can check the population density and land value overlays to see how happy people are and check the influence you have in any one area. Hope that helps.

So... There I am with my mining city going full tilt and I start construction on my international airport. So I go to the GW and turn on both alloy and metal to get the transfer going. I go back to my city and turn my exports to "use locally" and sit back to watch the GW gro. It gets about half way to filling the bar when I start getting messages that alloy and metal are "stalled" at the GW. I'm confused... I check to make sure my trade depots and ports are set correctly and everything is fine. I turn on the view so I can watch my trucks going back and forth and notice I only have about 6 trucks doing anything on the map and that most of my smelters are asking for ore and coal. So I turn off all my mines, trade depots / ports, and all my smelters and I watch to see which ones actually have trucks in their garages. All the trade facilities have no trucks. I shut down and restarted the game and still no joy. No trucks. Kind of makes it hard to play a game when bugs of this magnitude are still there after months of bug fixing. You would think they could have gotten around to fixing the missing truck bug by now as it is game breaking. I have no trade now in a city that can't survive without it. Got to say... I used to be a supporter and was waiting patiently however... No more. I've gone over to the dark side. I want to like this game but ever time I start a new region and get my cities up to speed they fail due to game breaking bugs. To name a few... #1 No trucks bug - Game breaking - Stops all trade. #2 Recycle and or garbage trucks that go in circles - Game breaking - Causes garbage to kill your city. #3 Gifting cash bug - Annoying - Loose cash you gift to other cities randomly. Seems to be due to traffic and town hall placement. #4 Tourists bug - Game breaking - All tourists stop coming to your city randomly and your city dies. I've had multiple flourishing cities die after logging in and doing nothing. At the last login they are booming, re-log and they die. I could go on but those are the three making my SimCity life miserable.

I put the city on high speed and went to lunch. Came back and still no joy. I also sent money from another city and it arrives just fine. Only money sent from the one city will not arrive. It's a clear bug.

30 million down the drain... I send 10 million to my starter city. I watch the truck come to pick up the cash. It drives around my city for a while then exits the city without ever picking up the cash, drives up the road and poof... It's gone. No cash ever arrives at the new city. I tried three times. I get the message that the money has been delivered but it never gets there. It does however leave my gifting city. So... I have that going for me.
