football Football dives and cheating

One of the most painful parts about football is faking a foul by diving. Diving is an attempt by a player to gain an unfair advantage by diving to the ground and usually feigning an injury, to appear as if a truly foul has been committed. There are 4 recognizable traits that can often be observed when a player is diving:

1) Time delay. A separation in time between the impact and the simulation. Some players pretend an injury some seconds after the impact.

2) Overreacting, a lack of ballistic continuity. This means that the player moves further than would be expected from the momentum of the tackle. It's like somebody touch you and you react like a nuclear bomb strikes you.

3) Lack of contact consistency, which means that the player nurses a body part other than where the impact occurred. For instance, a simple contact to the chest will cause the player to fly to the ground and hold his face!

4) Pure silliness. If the player faked and hit the ground, at least he shouldn't get up again to kick the ball!!!

The next video will show all the above traits in action...

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry with those situations :|

To become a professional football player, you need to be a professional actor as well.

You know, I started reading through what you were describing and it made no sense. Fouls in football? Faking being tackled?

Then I saw the video and it made sense. You're talking about soccer. :P

When talking about football one should look at who's talking. Only in North America is the term football used for something else.

Divers should be banned for life if it can be proved.

That would probably mean there will be no-one left to play the game, nonny.

Just wondering why the music is a jazzed up version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

(For those not familiar with the musical, all I can say is the 70s were strange.)

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

This is like fighting in hockey,cheating/paying players in NCAA sports,TD celebrations in NFL, steroids, etc they could stop all of this if they really wanted too.

Soccer Flopping: injured players and those who appear to be are removed from game and not allowed to play for 3 games. For their safety of course. apply this to the NBA as well, lots of floppers there too

NHL Fighting: both players suspended for 10 games for 1st offense, 2nd fight is 20 games etc...

TD celebration: offensive penalty, no score, this rule will be enforced exactly 1 time.

steroids : season long ban for 1st offense lifetime ban for 2nd for all sports.

NCAA violations: death penalty for all offenses.

that is if they really wast to stop the shenanigans.

The only way to stop the shenanigans is to go back to amateur sport and get rid of all professional leagues. The plebs would not allow this, because they have to have their bloody circus.

I know this is older but since we are only a couple of months away from football season I figured I could throw my two simoleans worth in.

It's really hard to prove when a player if faking being hurt. Look at kickers and punters they do it all the time, even if they aren't even touched. They fall down and make a big scene.

Or if time is running out they fake injuries to stop the clock. It's just part of the game.

Btw I know this was originally about soccer but it works for American football as well ;).

Right if you pretend to be hurt you  should be removed from the game and maybe the next one too, for the players safety of course.

he may have a concussion. If you start removing these floppers from the games they will stop doing this when it becomes detrimental to the team.

Obviously any form of dishonesty in sport is a BIG no-no if you wish to play as a sportsman. However considering the hugely commercialised, profit-driven professional nature of modern sport, and its huge entertainment status... It's inevitable you'll get a culture of partying twenty-somethings getting up to no good and getting in the papers for this or for that, and their on-field lives will be no different. A player who thinks it's fine to get up to no good off-field is probably just as blaze about on-field acts.

Over-rated professional sports are nothing more than gladiatorial contests without the hard weapons.  People can still be injured and killed, it just takes more force and violence.  Pfui on the lot, and especially on the media and sponsors.

This happens in basketball, too.  I saw some of that stuff going on in the recent NBA Finals.  The play-by-play sportscasters were pointing out "flopping" on certain defensive fouls that were called, which arguably should have been called offensive fouls or perhaps nothing at all.  Players flop because they know the NBA referees are big on calling fouls, and it often earns them a trip to the freethrow line.  Other than that though, the referees were delcared to have called the series fairly; that is to say, they actually didn't call very many fouls.

worst diving I've ever seen in soccer... well, there's actually 2 of them.

One: Men's World Championship, Italy vs I think it was Australia. The keeper slides towards the attacker to catch the ball, lies there with the ball for like 2 seconds until the attacker acutally gets to the scene who launches himself over the keeper and pretends a harsh foul and scores the penalty.

Second: Women's World Championship, Brazil vs idk anymore. Formiga takes a dive after a neglectible contact, pretents to be lifethreateningly injured, medics storm the field, she refuses to be carried away for a while acting like every single bone was scattered and when they finally managed to carry her off the field, first thing she did as soon as the "ambulance" crossed the sideline: jump of the tray as if nothing ever happened to her and ordering the referees to put her back on the field. took a good 5 minutes this whole scene. no need to say who was leading at this time.

But to be honest, concerning soccer, whats even worse than players playing unfair by diving, hidden fouls, whatnot are the referees themselves.

Latest scene that comes to mind just happened a few days back, Confed Cup, Italy vs Uruguay:

Corner Italy. the usual whereabouts in the penalty box, something someone might consider a foul, referee blows the whistle and rules a penalty shot, a bunch of players react to the whistle, a bunch not, one of them kicks the ball into the goal and guess what: the referee rules the goal and cancels the penalty.

I highly doubt this is in compliance with the intl. soccer rules.

And you can basically put the finger down on 9 out of 10 games where referees are performing really really poor... on a level where one would expect the best referees to guide a game.

How about this?  A basketball player flopping in soccer?  As a Mavs fan, the fact that it just had to be this player puts the cherry on top, especially given his supposed attitude towards the act.

GMT: Are you referring to the World Cup match during the round of 16? If so, I agree, our entire country felt robbed. (actually a lot of refereeing was shoddy, excluding bad calls a Croatian player was given 3 YELLOW CARDS before being sent off)

They should do away with yellow cards and just let them have at it.  They'll both weed out the panty-waist floppers AND make the sport intensely more interesting.  The striker position suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.

Also, add a second ball for an added dimension.  Heck, throw some tigers out there, if we're going to revolutionize the sport let's go all the way!

I reckon disputes should be resolved the way they were in my grandfather's days at school with a fair fight overseen by the Headmaster. (referee?)

Letting disputes carry on just ruins a game and makes the players feel like taking risks and cheating to get points.

Then again if I was a footballer I'd never break a rule, my home life would be quiet and respectable, and I'd only endorse products I felt comfortable endorsing. I'd make a terrible footballer.
