Yes, I play it and I find it fun!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

This probably isn't related to simcity 5, but if this is EA's effort to encourage more players to play Simcity, it's obvious they failed. They released a beta version of Simcity Social, but so far it looks like crap. Energy? Limited Zoning and Road options? Inviting friends? No thanks, let's hope that this isn't how Simcity 5 will be.

Um...

1.) This is a free-to-play game on FACEBOOK. It's obviously not going to be similar to Sim City (5), which is a $60-$80 game being sold in retail.

2.) If you've ever played a Facebook game, you'd realize that 99.9% of city-building apps on facebook have energy, friend inviting, and so on.

3.) They did not fail. SimCity Social has gained the franchise much attention. Just look at how many fans they have, and the comments on their status updates.

Plus, it's actually a good app compared to games like CityVille and others.

It certainly is better than CityVille in most regards.

Not a real FaceBook fan but was curious so thought I would give it a try.

Had a quick play and it was not to bad, Its just a shame that you are forced to share everything with friends. Got to level 5 and cannot proceed further without spending up to $100 to get the required energy and resources to continue. This is definitely NOT a free to play game and this certainly shows me the direction they are going with regards to the SC 2013 release.

Thanks EA but no thanks. I certainly don't like being ripped off.

Just have to wait for bars to refill.

I didn't expect SCSocial to be posted on this section. Anyway...

Though despite the usual Facebook drama, the game is fun in its own right. It has very simple SC mechanics, with a few new aspects, such as a mild take of the new SC's resources. The style of growth really depends on the player's decisions and preferences. And I think it has Chris Tilton's music on some spots.

I only use FB for important matters. Flash game apps are usually just a one-time thing for me. Though after playing social (on a fresh account), I'm starting to feel that I might just get hooked. Let's see how far this can go.

As of now: 4k pop. >1 day play time. No $ paid.

I might be crazy, but I kinda like it.

It's definitely not as mundane as CityVille, and the sound FX are nostalgic for me.

Some interesting bits so far...

1. If you chop trees, you get more resources. You need resources to build specific structures.

2. Waterfront and the area around natural landmarks have more land value.

3. Civics' response time depends on distance and road layout.

4. And you need alien technology to build arcologies.

I like that you get more than one "diamond" after passing a level. In Cityville, you only got 1 "Cash" after getting to the next level. Because of this, it took forever to gather enough to buy something, especially if you were at a really high level.

They stop giving out diamonds around level 10.

And then, in the final version, they wil say "Buy diamonds for $3 dollars" and "To continue refilling energy, pay $5.00". :(

They will give the option to buy diamonds and energy, but they won't force you.

Okay, it's starting to get annoying. I have 2 friends that play this game, and I need 9 land permits to expand (to an area where I can't really build more than 6 houses...)

At least energy becomes less and less of a problem when leveling up, and I have 127k simoleons.

To all playing this on FB. what are your FB names, that way we can play together to get permits / etc

Makes things easier if folks playing are from here, that way we know we won't trash one another's

Cities, eh ?

Here is my city currently at 15,935 population. I had to compress it to make it upload on YouTube (I made it 256 color then facebook automatically resized it).

I think this game is trash and everything I hoped it wouldn't be. The long and short of it is that EA missed a golden opportunity to promote SimCity (2013) because they don't care about the value of their brands anymore.
