SimCity Social App for Facebook
RABicle replied to Trillian2003's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Well someone is super angry at me over at my blog. I think I need to write at length about CivWorld now, how a popular franchise can be casualised and socialised while still being a fun and creative game that isn't a resin of FarmTown. -
SimCity Social App for Facebook

I think this game is trash and everything I hoped it wouldn't be. The long and short of it is that EA missed a golden opportunity to promote SimCity (2013) because they don't care about the value of their brands anymore. -
Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
RABicle replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
(Split from my earlier question. I kept these grouped because they're related and any answer from maxis should be able to address both in one go.) Question: Trailers, screenshots and interviews have hinted at being able to upgrade utilities such as fire stations with increased functionality. Can we expect all civic or ploppable buildings to act this way and will upgrading them allow them to develop varied appearances? Question: Continuing with the theme of civic buildings. Budget balancing in SimCity 4 got bogged down in larger cities where you might have to individual alter the funding requirements of each school and hospital to keep them at an optimum level of funding. Since you've stated a wish to move away from some aspects of micromanagement, would you consider the funding of schools and hospitals to be set at an optimum level, going up and down as the population pressures on each individual school change through the cities development? You could even make this a 'gamey' aspect by enabling this by hiring a Sim, ticking an ordinance box or making a small accountancy office an upgradeable element of each building. -
Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
RABicle replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Question: Lately EA have become extremely effective at offering premium downloadable content for their games, often with this additional content available from launch day. SimCity is already available for pre-order on Origin with regular and premium content SKUs. However, unlike many EA games, SimCity has a large and active modding community, who give their creations away for free. How will premium DLC distinguish itself from fan made additions and what sort of additional content can we expect post launch? In this day and age of DRM and online passes, it's possible that SimCity will require an internet connection for solo play. -
He pointed you towards the Omnibus which has the table. I can't find that table either though. Honestly dude. if you really want scyscrapers, start on easy. Map out a grid of roads, 6x6 or whatever. High density Fill some squares with commerce, some with residential, whatever. Water them, power them. Fill one square with large flower gardens. Drag a road out to an industrial area, make an industrial area AT LEAST THE SAME SIZE. And run the game at full speed. Big buildings will come. Your city will be dirty, poor, crime ridden, stupid, unhealthy, full of traffic and the industrial area will burn down every five minutes. but it will make money. Spend $400,000 of your starting money mapping out this monstrosity, save up a lazy million of so. And then redo the whole thing. Maybe make the roads one way, put in some parks, subway, bus lines, schools, hospitals and a cop shop. And before you know it your first R$$$ scryscraper will emerge. About as big as the buildings that come with the game get. Maybe having this built can be a measure of your success?

Yeah just kill all your intercity road connections except for the freeway. When designing suburbs have your streets lead into roads and roads lead into avenues/freeways. Any busy roads en route to the freeway could have a bit of light commerce or something. But yeh I know in my cities the only time I've ever needed freeways is if I have limited options for a river crossing. It's much more cost effective using overly congested rail to move poor *****s around.

Is it okay to use the default Maxis highways in your CJ?

I love the wording of the question "Is it ok?" "do you have to?" Well actually if you don't use sunken highways then you get arrested and sent to SimPrison. -
Ok so tis thread is relevant to my interests. So let's be clear, it runs nice, mods are compatible, no issues bringing in cities built off old installations and it WILL work on Win 7 64bit so long as Aero is disabled? Is that all? Sounds awesome. I think this is the first time I've bought a game three times. Although I might've done that with World of Goo too...

1. I have a pretty *****ty graphics card, barely above the minimum requirements to play the game. How will this run the game? As a walking clich
