If by "resemble" you mean that the art direction is similar, then yes. Although even when comparing graphics, SimCity looks much more advanced and detailed.

Huh? The first video isn't Sim City 2013. That looks more like a Zynga ad. Yes, the art direction is similar, however, the gameplay, graphics, and AI will be much more advanced. On top of it, there's still 11 months (or more) until release. There's a lot to do. Hope this helps. :)

Oops. The first part WAS a Zynga game, I stand corrected. I apologize. :P

How? I don't even think the art style is that similar, and even if it was that wouldn't be terrible, candy cane street lights aside, the big problem with Simcity Societies wasn't the graphics it was the gameplay and simulation (or rather lack of it). What about the new Simcity is particularly Societies-like? Aside from "cartoony" graphics, even the criticisms of it aired on these forums don't resemble Societies flaws.

Correction, it's a Playfish game, otherwise it wouldn't be owned by EA.

Mithrik, Mithril with a k instead of a l, how original, huh?

I am optimistic about the graphics (polishing and eventually modding) and I am already ecstatic about the simulation.

I'm gonna wait a bit to buy it.

Hopefully, this won't be superhyped, only to waste your money for a load if a crap.

But it looks a bit like societies and 4 combined.

And this is Where I would put my signature.

If I had one!

SCS sucked because the game was poorly designed. The new SimCity somewhat resembles the SCS graphics but in my opinion this is a bonus. This will mean custom content won't be extremely difficult to create. Thus, more opportunities will be open. :)

Agreed. I really like the art direction of SimCity... even if it does resemble societies. The game itself will be nothing like societies though, so don't worry.

IMO the only thing that seperated SCS and SC4 was the fact that on SCS ya couldn't zone commercial residential and industry. so i think everything will be ok as long as zoning is implemented on SC5. I'm looking forward to the new features that SC4 doesn't have, aswell as seeing that beautiful woman again :P

The graphical style is default. Come the modding revolution that shall cease to be an issue.

Simcity Doesn't feel like societies. Because Societies was a "Click and drop" style type of gameplay. And the graphics were "cartoony" and the style types was too much. I think Simcity (2013) Will be very different in simulation, and gameplay.

Im not as informed on this topic as most of you...this is my first time posting something to this website. But ive been coming here for years for inspiration on Sim City 4 when I get stuck.....

But to answer the question.....I feel that with the new game they kept the FEW good things from Societies and from all the video and interviews that Ive seen and read, they are trying to get back to what made Sim City 4 such a phenomenon and improve on that. The geniuses on this site will still have the modding, and the casual Sim City gamers like myself will still have features that we like....like building multiple cities in a region for example.

I would be highly surprised if this turns out to be another version of Sim City Societies. When I find out what the gameplay is like when I first get it, those opinions about the game will change.

If by SimCity Societies you mean that they're trying to force a gaming model that many people don't want then, yes, I would say that's an apt comparison.

SC5 looks like SC4 (because of his old engine) ie at half way between a realistic style et cartoonish style. That's a good point for me.

SCS: senseless specializations; shallow simulation; scarce urban dynamics, construction flexibility and gameplay.

SC2013 revamped all of those ideas, and incorporated it into the original SC mechanics seemlessly. I'd say that's a win state.

But to say that SC2013 sucks as much as SCS does, despite the demos and press coverages... Is nothing but obvious hatred.

I'm in love with the cartoonish look. Just because there's ploppables doesn't mean it's going to be a SCS. You guys are forgetting that this is Maxis, not Tilted Mill. SimCity Societies was like a modernized version of Caesar IV, so of course there was going to be only ploppables.

What is with all the 'I love the cartoony look' comments??? I guess I must be in a small minority of people who were actually hoping for a realistic look, not another babyish rendition of a classic game. It looks like SC Societies 2.0, I'll wait until the final cut is released before I declare it a complete failure, but I really hope they get rid of the 'tilt-shift' look - it just makes it look like a 5-year old's playset. Some better texturing wouldn't go a miss too.

Also what genius decided to make it multiplayer? (EA I'm guessing) It's suppose to be Simcity! not "The Sims".

I'm with you, I hoped a Google Maps style graphics, SC4 was going in the right direction, especially for the hardware back then. SCS completely ruined everything that was good about it and it looks like they took the same look of SCS again as if that was the right direction to go. I don't understand it. Well, I do, they want it to appeal to all the Sims players and 8 year olds.

1. The architectural proportions are accurate, the textures are what bothers me.

2. SimCity Societies had unrealistic proportions and simplified (and low quality/size textures) but was easily modded.

3. The Sims is rated T for Teen, which means you are supposed to be at least 13 to play it.

4. There are graphical limitations for midrange PCs but I hope that it will eventually be optimized for high end gaming rigs as well.

I'm with you too...I'm not liking the direction SC5 is going. It seems to be going more towards the sims in the city than the city mechanics itself. I'm really feeling Sim City Socieities 2.0 here and NOT SimCity 5.

No monorails, no subways...I haven't seen anything that looks like a highway either...it's starting to look pretty scary.

I don't understand WHY EA thinks we're all a bunch of kids who want to play this simulation. I'm sick of EA shoving FISHER-PRICE CRAP down our throats.

Will SOMEBODY please - just give us SimCity 4 in 3D!!!
