Wow - so many comments - I'm blown away!!!!

Mattc005 - I haven't quite finalised my airport plans yet - although I have a fairly good idea of where it will be - I just hope the area is big enough for it........ I have never been to Heathrow (honest) Airports I have been to include Norwich (the real one...), London Stansted, London Luton, Jersey, Paris (Charles De Gaulle), Amsterdam, Rome (Ciampino) and Alicante. Re your second post - I noticed the dodgy highway only when I was posting the pics to the CJ - bearing in mind my cities take 10-20 mins to load I wasn't about to change it. 8.gif If you think those interchanges are big, you should see the size of me!!! 18.gif Grids - yes there is an element of rushing when zoning at the mo because building that road takes a deceptively long time - esp. interchanges and soundwalls. Apologies - normal service will be resumed when things start getting back to normal - I just want to get things posted to keep you all interested so this doesn't die a cruel death..... Have a great time in Chicago and have a safe journey - sorry I didn't reply last night but by the time I got everything done it was like 1am over here. 14.gif AND - thanks for putting a link to this CJ in your sig - I'm honoured and I'm sure the folks writing all the those other great CJs feel the same - BUNNIES FOR YOU! 35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif
rewright - thanks for commenting!44.gif The Network addon mod is in the Simtropolis mods section - under essentials.
Casper3141 - thank you very much - I will try not to disappoint! 44.gif
ChicAgo333 - 2 posts - both nice! Thank you very much indeed! 44.gif
tHe Dark_Child - You've been a tough cookie to crack  - guess I'm finally winning you over.........! 2.gif
Dark Avatar - Your favourite CJ? That's the ultimate compliment - thank you very much indeed. 17.gif

Thanks again everyone for the great comments - bunnies for all of you! 35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif

Well I'm in Chicago and on a laptop and I have just enough time to post. And before I do I must say the flight was absolute murder and the security was horrendous... I had to walk through the metal detector 10 times because of my retainer!! Anyways that doesn't belong here so just ignore that.

First of all, in the first picture, I shall stress the cul-de-sac near the bottom. Simple things like that can really make a huge differentce 19.gif

The Transportation Pictures : Even in my largest city with a population of 300,000 (My cities don't get very large populations.. my second largest is only 105,000 22.gif ), i don't get the roads used that much!

Budget: Congrats! You're just breaking even!

Region Maps: SEE! I told you urban sprawl would come when the ring road goes through! And do I see more potential development north of claridon? 18.gif And I'm always amazed by those maps... Acctually, I don't think I've ever been all the way around a ring road, as there isn't one in Toronto, Buffalo, Montr

Wow, Norwich was one of the first CJs I ever looked at when I first came here a couple months ago, what you've done is amazing.

Good luck in the Prem this year, I know you guys had some near misses the last couple of years. I'm a Gooner myself (sad day, looks like Paddy is going), but I always root for the newly promoted clubs too.

Thanx for stopping by Farallon. Come back soon.

This is an incredible region! And the close-ups are even better. That's an inspiring zoning layout. Reminds me a little bit of my now ancient Ocean Cove-Palm Shores Region journal from last summer where I had a similar type of zoning layout. Same for the transportation. I like the broken grid style for bigger cities like this. Great job! 10.gif

    Thanks for all comments! 44.gif

Mattc005 - glad you found access to Simtropolis! Is driving round a ring road fun? Well, I have driven a few - Norwich (the real one) has two as well as a southern bypass AND a northern bypass in planning - so I guess that would basically make it three - although I don't think it would be possible to make the northern bypass complete a circular round Norwich because the southern bypass is linked to an existing road at either end. We have a population of around 125,000 at last census here and our ring roads get packed - there are very few dual carriageway stretches and you can tear your hair out - especially when some idiot gets in the wrong lane and tries to cut in 26.gif. The M25 is London's orbital motorway (beltway) - except that is like 130 miles in circumference and is usually packed. In fact you may or may not know that the M25 was the subject referred to in Chris Rea's song Road To Hell and it's also known as the World's biggest car park. Also, something unbelievable I saw on the web was that Beijing has SIX ring roads!!!! So, needless to say it's not much fun generally but the idea behing them is good - and without them a lot of cities would simply stop functioning properly.

kbooms1w - thank you very much for your comment - as for the footie - it's going to be very difficult for us this year, as long as we don't get thrashed every week and give it a good go I'll be happy - and I wouldn't worry about Vieira, I can't see you guys getting beaten to the title even with all Chelski's cash flying around.

comdude21 - I'll have to check up on that ancient CJ - I have only been a Simtropolian since new year's day so I prob haven't seen it. Thanks for the great comments.

lutjemark - I have 512mb ddr ram - that's about all I can remember of the top of my head! The cities are taking 10 mins+ now to load, it's handy really so I can go and make a cup of tea during loading/saving!!!! 19.gif

Thanks to all you guys for the positive comments.

I'm back so I'll be typing again.

    1. 125,000 and packed roads???? How many lanes are there each way???
    2. My relatives in Croydon complain about M25 All the time
    3. I have a map of Beijing (don't ask me why), and from what I see, they have 3 expressways, 1 to the airport, one east, and one south. For the rind roads, they aren't actual highways, they're just like roads. they acctually have 8 rings.. the firstone encircles the city center (litterally over the red subway line) and then the rest are 1-2 blocks apart. Because of the way the city was built, they would make many roads form loops, which also caused really bad traffic problems
    4. Toronto has the 401 and 407... the 401 was orriginally a bypass, but now it's the worlds bussiest highway. The 407 is a toll highway which was recently built. That's the closest thing to a ring road, although it's starting to become just as busy as the 401, and is only on the north side (because of the lake)
    5. I've made this to show my lovingness of Norwich:

    Norwich.bmp border=0

(Norwich needs tunnels into Central Norwich... to relieve suburb-to-city commuter congestion)

This is awesome!!! I can't wait to see the airport. The city is really starting to come together! I like how the ring road meanders around the edge. It fits in real well! I can't wait to see more! You might want to start filling in some of the open area in Clarendon and the other surrounding areas. Other then that its awesome!

Thanks, tHe Dark_Child, I'm quite proud of it too!

    Thank you too, ginchael!

    mattc005 -
    1. Just one lane in many areas, with the occasional stretch of dual carraigeway (2 lanes).
    2. I occasionally worked not too far from Croydon in my previous job (a place called Pett's Wood).
    5. You are nuts! But I love it. 43.gif

Glad to hear from you again uncrazycooper13 - I'm pleased with the shape of the road - I've tried to make it look as realistic as possible. Re empty spaces, there are a few, but I figured they may come in handy at a later date. Don't ask me why though....

Thanks again to all for the great comments! 44.gif

Norwich City Council - New Appointment!

Mayor George is proud to announce the appointment of mattc005 to Norwich City Council. Matt has volunteered his services to the city and his responsibilities will include the creation of all road signage in the city and to advise the mayor on a wide range of transportation and development issues. Matt will take up his post from 16th August 2004. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Matt for his kind offer, and I'm sure he will offer a great deal to Norwich.

Ring Road Project - Phase 4 - Stathamstow

Good evening everyone and welcome to this long-overdue progress update. Tonight we are in Stathamstow. The Mayor has now almost completed the northern half of his ring road and many changes have swept across Northern Norwich. On with the pictures, and first up is the entry of the A406 from Clarendon to the west, with an all-too familiar industrial estate alongside.....

    1Stathamstow.jpg

Next, we reach the ninth junction, the only one in Stathamstow. This was mainly caused by the decision to send the ring road close to Stathamstow roundabout rather than up the hill around the rail depot and all the way around. This one junction links 4 of Norwich's major routes: A406, A11, A12, and the new M11 motorway, as well as facilitating the Crofton Park + Ride. This probably makes it the busiest of the ring road's junctions thus far........

    Junction9.jpg

The A406 cuts it's path closeby to the Stathamstow roundabout....

    3Stathamstow.jpg

After a few more twists the A406 heads off to the borough of Maidenwell.....
