    Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. Apologies if I seemed a bit whiney, just trying to think of the next direction to go in with this. Once I get started, I'll be ok and hopefully there will be no stopping me!! Thanks for the aerial pics Matt, the first two links link to the same picture of London, was that intentional? Anyway, they're great pictures and thank you very much for them. And Smartpig, the PM DID help a great deal, thank you very much.

    Now, it's Saturday and, if you're familiar with the routine I'm in here, it's football night! As the season fast draws to a close, the teams are battling to end the season in glory, or without egg on their faces. In tonight's big game, championsip-chasers Clarendon Athletic visited Norwich United. Clarendon were stunned as United raced into a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, but to their credit clawed their way back into it with a battling 2nd half display.
    In Maidenwell meanwhile, Bradwell's championship challenge was mathematically over after they crashed to a shock 3-1 home defeat against Salham. The league table tonight........

    No.. the 2 to London weren't intentional.. one was New York.

    Anyways.. you really must teach me this soccer scoring/stats things... Because honestly, it simply means nothing so me right now 42.gif I know Pts mean Points... so I'm going to assume that means the number of points scored total? Or am I totally wrong? (Oh, and when you're saying football... it IS soccer right? Because football over there is rugby but it's different because they have different rules and it acctually makes more sense to call soccer football because you use your feet because in football you don't so... Just ignore this part... I know football is soccer, i'm not that crazy15.gif)

    Okay, Matt, here goes.

    P = Games Played
    W = Games Won
    D = Games Drawn
    L = Games Lost
    F = Goals scored
    A = Goals conceded
    GD = Goal difference (Comparison of goals scored/conceded. Used as a seperator when points tallies between two or more teams are equal)
    Pts = Points earned (on a basis of Win = 3, Draw = 1, Defeat = 0)

    Hope that clears it up for ya. Rugby is an old sport from which American Football and Australian Rules Football are derived (I think). It involved huge six-feet-plus tall men running into the man holding the ball, trying to put him into the first row of the seating area. No head-guards, no pads, and a punch in the crotch for your troubles. So, naturally, I chose football.

    Awesome Andrew George!!! I'm finally back from the beach and it looks like you worked hard while I was gone!!! I can't wait to see the ring road and the urban sprawl! I live in a sprawl state (NC) so I hate sprawl actually but I think its cool in sim city! Anyways keep it up. PS. For the olympics you can always use the Seol Stadium and other things that weren't made to look exactly like real olympics stuff.

    Norwich Ring Road Project - Phase One - Oakhill

    Good evening everyone welcome back to Norwich as we oversee the first phase in the construction of the new ring road, together with expansion in Oakhill's development. First up here, at the request of readers, are some transportation data views.....

    27Oakhill.jpg

    28Oakhill.jpg

    Now then, we look at the opening stage of this phase. The A4 has been upgraded to facilitate the construction of the new ring road (A406, also known as North Circular). Also, in shot here in the NLR (Norwich Light Railway), a partnership plan that will grow with the ring road and help development outside of the ring road.........

    29Oakhill.jpg

    The sign on approach to the junction....

    A406_junction.jpg

    Now, shifting the aspect from west-facing to north-facing, we move a little north to look at new development, directly west of Gresham Palace gardens. The NLR heads outside Oakhill's border westwards.....

    30Oakhill.jpg

    Now we take a look at a major industrial estate, accessed via junction 1 of the A406. Generally, A-roads are not given junction numbers, this honour is reserved for motorways, but Mayor George feels it will help Norwich's residents and visitors navigate.......

    31Oakhill.jpg

    Junction_1.jpg

    Gresham Park + Ride complex......

    32Oakhill.jpg

    Here, we see a stone footbridge helping kids get to school safely. Beware strange-looking men with anoraks and cameras often seen here fixated on railway lines.

    33Oakhill.jpg

    Homes close to the A5........

    A highway and Monorail in 1 update!! 6.gif  Also, seeing some of the extreem traffic problems in Oakhill, may I reccomend either Bus and subway station combinations (if you already have bus stops there), or the on-street bus and subway stations? (if you have no room).

    Oh, and you probably know this already, but just for good measure... when it comes time for a Avenue and Highway to cross, instead of using a clover leaf or T-intersection and then connecting it to the Avenues, select the off-ramp from the highway menu and press TAB untill you get to the Avenue interchange.

    And a question... I know you pointed it out somewhere, but I've lost where.... I know where the palace is, but where are the parliment buildings again? 42.gif15.gif

    Hi everyone thanks for the replies! 44.gif

    uncrazycooper13 - I have used the Seoul Soccer Stadium in Central Norwich and have called it Olympic Stadium!!! Also, re the water, I can't remember where I got it from but if you would like it I can try and find out for you....?

    mattc005 - Thanks for your suggestions - I plan to tackled subway network after I've finished the ring road, I'm only really capable of one thing at a time!33.gif I use the T-intersection to connect highways with avenues because a) they look (and ought to be) more efficient; and b) I prefer the way they look, from an eye candy point of view. House of Parliament: is at eastern end of Oakhill, where the A4 comes in from Central Norwich. Check towards the top of page 2 on the CJ for a look....

    Dannato and tHe_Dark_Child - thanks guys, your views are always valued. 44.gif

    Thanks again

    NEWS AT TEN

    Good evening and welcome to tonight's edition of News At Ten. In tonight's programme, the football season is set to reach it's climax at the weekend after tonight's penultimate round of matches. Both of tonight's gamed ended all square; at the Olympic Stadium, Norwich City huffed and puffed but couldn't blow Salham's house down - with the game ending 0-0. Meanwhile, across town Norwich United came from behind twice to get a good 2-2 draw against Bradwell.
    So, as we can see from the league table, it's going right to the wire this weekend, with the vital game at Clarendon; if Clarendon win, they win the championship, if they don't, Norwich City will take the title and be crowned champions. It also means that unfortunately, having not won a single game, Norwich Utd finish bottom of the table, their match with Salham is irrelevant with only 3 points left to play for.....

                                 P  W  D  L   F   A   GD   Pts
    1 Norwich City      7   4   2   1   9    1    +8    14
    2 Clarendon Ath   7   4   1   2  13  12   +1    13
    3 Bradwell            8   3   1   4   9    9     -      10
    4 Salham              7   2   2   3    7    9    -2      8
    5 Norwich Utd      7   0   4   3    5   12   -7      4

    Final fixtures:

    Clarendon Athletic  v  Norwich City
    Salham  v  Norwich United

    Thank you, and goodnight.

    More Highway and  Urban Sprawl!! 1.gif My favourite. And, you should know this by now, but I have some things to say:

    Pict 1: I wonder how those rich people feel living right next to a highways3.gif
    Pic 2: That interchange looks like one from a road to a mall near where I live
    Pic 3: You and your interchanges20.gif
    Pic 4: No offence, but that tall building sticks out like a soar thumb
    Pic 5: I never knew someone who liked monorails so much... I myself prever subways and El-Trains, mainly because I thin they're more realistic for cities.
    Pici 6: What is that building under the baseball diamond? It appears to be a church...
    Pic 7: Yep.. the Network Ad-on mod can do wonders to beautiful cities 1.gif
    Pic 8: See! Urban Sprawl! Like I said! (the un-zoned areas = future subdivisions.. right?)
    Pic 9: It appears you have a lot of open space,,, that;s always good though44.gif

    Here's an experiment for you : when you get into the next densley populated area, try using some Multi-Highway fun. Basically, all you do is lay 2 ground highways side by side and then run a elevated highway over it.. you can do it with avenues too.. just be careful when demolishing the elevated highway if you want to make it ground : it might demolish the whole thing! Theres more indepth stuff on their official thread:
    And, It'll make it like a highway with colector lanes, like this:
    loc74.jpg
    The picture might update itself.. since I just pulled it off a traffic cam website... This one acctually: http://www.pulse24.com/Plugins/Traffic/mtocameras-frameset.html  See.. you can go there and if it's the right time see Toronto Rush Hour traffic in all its beautiful glory with all of the cars and traffic and congestion and wonderfullness! I love it I love it I love it!!! 11.gif

    Right.. Anyways.. Can't wait to the next update!
    And of course... the bunnies: 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif

    and here i am using cloverleaves!
    i really need to start playing around with the transportation mod just a little bit more.

    wow, andrew_george, i like a lot about your cities - but i REALLY like your transportation. those exits look like pure madness. (never work here. people around here even get confused by two-way streets. and let's not go into the parking meter madness).

    I am really impressed with how this city is comming along... much better then any of mine anyways. It seems you are preparing the city for much further developpment with the construction of the ring road and all those complex interchanges... As long as I do not have to drive through those. Hopefully that will help with your traffic woes ( Whatever that word means anyways...42.gif )
    You have some CRAZY monorail lines, or light rail if you preffer, they seem to add a unique touch to your city.
    One thing, the park near the parlement in Oakhill seems a tad big. Maybe during all theses upgrades the gouvernment will sell off some of the land in a huge scandal to repay the debt they have caused, but that is just a thought... if you understand the idea I have proposed.
    Well, anyways, keep up the good work on your beautiful and amazing city.

    Thanks for all the comments guys. 44.gif

    Mattc05 - that building is a bit of an eyesore, let's call it a distinguishing feature, shall we?! That building with the baseball pitch is a church - it's Schmails' St. George Academy. Functions as a high school. Tried using multi-highways on a previous city they are grossly expensive to build/demolish/build etc. Might try if I have a large cash reserve. Cool pic, by the way.
    Sepsis - the moose on the club emblem is very apt - which team is that, by the way? 42.gif

    Mrcinatit - The network addon is very cool, everyone should use it....
    Dark Avatar - thanks - I love Singapore also!! 44.gif

    Nooneatall - Thanks - I try to give people something a bit different to look at - one of the reasons for that huge palace & park combo. Actually, in real terms, it is roughly the size of similar parks found in London.2.gif
    Dolfan - thanks also!

    Thanks again everyone

    Ring Road Project - Phase 3 - Clarendon

    Hello folks and welcome to the lastest instalment in Norwich's history. Tonight, we see the latest pictures of development north of Norwich, together with some quick fire responses from CONRIP regarding the letter received from Mayor George (see above). Ok, to the photos now and here is the traffic data view before commencement of work.........

    1Clarendon.jpg

     The A406 enters Clarendon from Stokesbury. Junction 5 is also in view here, which connects the ring road to the A1 (Southbound) and A1 (M) (Northbound).......

    Yes! Do as you're told!!!

    Now here is the complex junction 6 with the M1 going northward and two one-way access roads that run directly to and from Central Clarendon........

    Here is CONRIP's first project. The City Gateway Arch, together with motorway services closeby, welcomes drivers from the north into Norwich......

    4Clarendon.jpg

    Closeby to junction 6 is junction 7, with the A10. Clarendon University and Clarendon University Hospital are also in view.....

    This housing area is known as the Golden Triangle, as it sits between three major landmarks. Clarendon Athletic F.C., and two of CONRIP's other projects; Dr Samuel Johnson Library and St. Luke's Chapel......

    WHAT!?!?!?!? A POST AND NO REPLIES!!! SHAME ON YOU SIMTROPOLITES!!!! 28.gif

    Anyways.... I don't have much time so this will be a very quick comment.

    YAY! AIRPORTS!!!  I reccomend when you build, include a large, modern railway station and El-Train/Monorail stations, and a HUGE highway network winding it's way through the whole airport. For examples of such systems, try looking at some very large airports in the US (Such as JFK), Canada (Such as Toronto-Pearson), and other areas of the world. Now I know you're british and all that, but frankly I've been to Heathrow before and it's really borring. There is a highway (maybe 2.. I don't remember) but there is no massive brainpounding mess of road. Same with some other airports around the world - 1 or 2 highways just don't cut it!! You need to make your airport a disgusting mess of roads which you can drive for 5 hours and just end up going in one giant circle!!! That's the way I like it1.gif But I'm not you and you've posted this over 4 hours before this, so you might have already done this. Oh but one thing about Heathrow I really like is that it has excellent underground service44.gif

    Well don't expect much from me for a few days, my dad has a bussiness thing to go to in Chicago so unless they have internet, I'll be a no-show. Well so much of this being such a short message eh? Now I must really go but one last thing.. that picture I posted a while back does change by itself! Cool eh? No not really now only time for 3 bunnies but you deserve more so TTFN - ta ta for now!  (winnie-the-pooh for you)

    35.gif 35.gif 35.gif

    EDIT: you posted something while I was typing but no time to look now I'll look later!!

    Ok I have some time now so I shall comment on your new post which came before my last post...

    Picture 3: YES! GET IN THE RIGHT LANE NOW!! 18.gif21.gif
    Picture 4: Instead of ending that bit of highway like you did, why don't you just turn the highway intoan avenue, then turn the avenue into 2 oneway streets, then split it? (See Here for Mod download : )
    Picture 6: Nice touch with the arch.. try adding some paving stones around it.
    Most Pictures : What's with you and these huge interchanges? 20.gif

    And I have one criticizim to say : from some looks, i think that you are rushing your city building. Before you started to build the highway, you were crazy about detail and had Building OCD. But looking while you build the highway, it seems that you are just rushing to make your city grow as fast as possible. Even in your new suburbs, the streets are all a grid. Try building more parks, making your streets more windey to make a more suburbia effect, and please.. in those blocks where you have almost filled, put grass down or something.. just get rid of some of those trees!! 44.gif

    Now i have to go again. Only time for 3 bunnies so here.. i'll make up for them later..

    Thank You for the Continued Support!

    Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
    Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

    But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

    STEX Collections

    By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

    Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

    Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
