6.gifOooooooo! Finally... the low-density suburbs are comming! 9.gif
First of all, I must say... I hate dirty and manufacturing industry...  (The little bit in Stathamstow), but I suppose it's the first step in any city. Secondly, since I am very bad (and hate) searching for buildings (I do know how though!), where did you get...
    a)The tall rowhouses
    b)The railyard?
Thirdly, if you keep telling your secrets I might just end up getting jelous and making a Norwich look-alike11.gif No.. that's mean..
Oh, and finally the most important thing...
    YAY! URBAN SPRAWL IS FINALLY COMMING TO NORWICH!!!! 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif 9.gif
I'm sooo exictied... a new highway encircling Norwich is just what a city needs... trust me look where I live... I know oh too well the effects.
And another question: does Norwich have a subway/underground system or just that massive train network?42.gif

    ^That will keep you busy.

    quote>

    Firstly, many thanks for your comments, I will deal with them one by one;

I'm glad that the area around the train depot is mainly manufacturing, as these types of land use tend to go together in real cities. I don't like chimneys pumping out pollution either, but they are necessary in any city of substantial size.

Rowhouses, will get back to you when I'm at home.

Railyard, it's Smith Inc Railyard 5 lots by Wodsworth2.

Imitation is a form of flattery, I never expected this to get off the ground and I'm astounded that some folks seem to like it so much!

No underground, just Bus/railways for mass transit.

BTW, any suggestions for me about my future transport plans?

    Thanks again.

    Andrew

Looks good, I like how you have used avenues all throughout your cities, I also really like how you have proposed your plans to limit congestion. Great work.

Maidenwell Fills Out - Norwich Bursting At Seams!!!!

Hello Simtropolians and welcome to another update. Tonight I am taking you on a tour of Maidenwell, the second oldest borough of Norwich (after Central Norwich). Mayor George has found it very difficult to develop this borough as he would like - traffic is chaotic - highlighting the desperate need for a ring road. Don't forget you can leave your comments and suggestions about the congestion report on pasge 4 of this thread - I really would value your comments.

OK, first of all here we'll have a look at Riverside. Riverside is on the south bank of the River Hex, just to the west of Hackton. In shot here are from left to right; J Phillips Tower One; Technitium Tower and Citicorp Centre......

    /idealbb/files/11Maidenwell.jpg

This is Riverside Stadium, home of Maidenwell Football Club. Also beside it is Riverside Stadium Station. This area is very close to the borough border with Central Norwich.....

    /idealbb/files/12Maidenwell.jpg

This is the rear view of Riverside Station (not to be confused with Riverside Stadium Station). A highly modern yet practical piece of architecture.......

    /idealbb/files/13Maidenwell.jpg

More modern architecture: the Maidenwell Modern Art Museum....

    /idealbb/files/14Maidenwell.jpg

Now we move to our evening tour photos. This is Longhill Mall. An indoor galaxy of a shopping experience, the nation's select few finest stores......

    /idealbb/files/15Maidenwell.jpg

These are suburbs east of Longhill Mall, on the edge of the current eastern city limits......

    /idealbb/files/16Maidenwell.jpg

    The Prince William Dock area..........

    /idealbb/files/17Maidenwell.jpg

    /idealbb/files/18Maidenwell.jpg

This is an industrial estate north of Longhill, close to the A12. Just north of this is part of the proposed route for the new ring road....

    NEWS AT TEN

Good evening and welcome to tonight's News At Ten. In this afternoon's football Bradwell continued to surprise people with their fine form. Today, they put the ball into Norwich City goalkeeper Robert Green's goal for the first time this season, and, despite constant pressure and a string of world-class saves by the Bradwell goalkeeper, held on for a famous 1-0 victory......

    /idealbb/files/Bradwell

Meanwhile, in today's other match in Kelseyheath saw firm favourites Clarendon Athletic come from 1-0 behind to register a 2-1 win over Salham.....

Wow this is awesome!!! I can't wait to see the ring road! I'm rooting for Norwich City to win but thats just me. Just one suggestion and I think I've said this before, but it would look alot better in the regional view if you filled in some of those gaps in between cities. Other then that its awesome!!! Keep it up! -uncrazycooper

Superstar, the Citicorp is a great building I like it a lot - thank you for releasing it.

uncrazycooper, I took note from your previous post re filling in the gaps it's just taken me a little while to get round to it! I have done Maidenwell now will be working on Central Norwich shortly.

Anyone have any thoughts on which modes of MT should be used in future?

Depending on your budget, Monorail, El-Train, Subway, and Highways. Also, you should add a HUGE international airport using joreg's airport pack. Maybe some more ferry stops... And I don't know how many train stations you have (with the number of lines, I'm going to assume alot) but if you go to Sim City Central under the downloads section, they have train stations that go right ontop of the track and takes up no more room.. good for dense urban areas with no more room 44.gif

Thanks for your comments again mattc005. You think I should use everything then?! Good, that would be a challenge for me. I do have a number of such stations that you are referring to and have used them on occasion throughout the CJ. You're right they are very useful, especially the higher capacity ones.

    Thanks.

Central Norwich Full - No Room To Swing A Llama!

Hello everyone and welcome to a new update. Tonight, I am showing you how the various redevelopments in Central Norwich have finished, although there are a few areas where the density has not hit maximum, another symptom of Norwich's traffic problems. First of all, here is a shot of the south-west corner of Central Norwich. In view are the World Trade Centres, the dominant feature in Norwich's skyline, along with the new headquarters of the Bank Of Norwich.......

    /idealbb/files/29Central

This is the north-west area on Central Norwich, Salisbury. This is Salisbury Sportspark, with it's huge gymnasium, clubhouse and bar and an all-year ice rink. It's a feast of sporting activities, which the developers have tried to keep away from all the smog.....

    /idealbb/files/30Central

Bank of Norwich HQ, viewed from the north-west, with the busy waterway of River Hex behind.....

    /idealbb/files/31Central

H.M.S. Victory has been permanently anchored to the south bank of the river, near to Victory Arch. HMS Victory was captained by Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle Of Trafalgar (21st October 1805). Also in view area WTC, Brunel University (named after legendary British engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859)), Norwich Roman Catholic Cathedral and it's lawns, and Norwich Zoo.......

    /idealbb/files/32Centralhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/32Central%20Norwich.jpg>

North east Central Norwich is home to Upper and Lower Hetfield. In this area (on the far right end of this picture), Norwich & Chapelhurst Building Society (left) and HSBC Bank have built their headquarters.....

    /idealbb/files/33Central

And finally, Norwich at night - it's rising skyline ever more imposing......

'Please Post Comments as you see fit'  And I believe that this is fit... or something like that...

Well firstly, I'm happy to finally see some close-up's of Central Norwich, it's been quite awhile. Secondly, if you're having trouble developing, go to the STEX and download some RCI plopables... they tend to remove demand caps and spur growth 2.gif Oh, and going into God-Mode and going over zoned areas / built up areas with the tree tool will help get alot of $$$ and $$ wealth too.. but you didn't hear that from me... 22.gif and you probably knew all of this anyways but it's too late now eh? Hmm... what else... Oh an idea to go with your proposed new highway, urban sprawl phenominon, etc : how about having Norwich hosting the Olympics? Being Olympic time and all and all of the new olympic buildings... just a thought.

Oh, and with response to the transport thing, I didn't mean use all, I meant use one or two of them depending on your budget.. like El-Trains are cheeper then subways, Monorails are cheeper then El-Trains, railways are cheeper then monorails, highways are beautiful because they cause major urban sprawl resulting in even more traffic going onto the already congested highway which was built to reduce traffic on another highway causing even more headaches and troubles there were to begin with... you know... And if you don't know what all of that is, don't ask me because I forgot. Yes.. enough of me now.

    And of course... 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif etc. etc. etc.

Emergent Fungus/dudyconstructor - As you can now see I have used ImageShack and will do so from now on.

And thanks foe the positive comments dudyconstructor. 44.gif

Mattc005 - Yep, close-ups finally here! Just wanted to make things fit into a planned pattern (to make you think I know what I'm doing here.......34.gif) I have started with a few RCI ploppables, it would have been nice to get everything to grow but I've tried and found it's nearly impossible and lost some hair in the process (can't have that at my age). Olympic buildings? I know about the Beijing 2008 Stadium project and am waiting with baited breath, but are there others? (or am I hopelessly out of date on this issue?). My budgets throughout the region could probably cope with using all modes of MT, may need slight adjustments on taxes (which are dirt-cheap in Norwich2.gif) and thanks for bunnies!!!!!!!!

For the olympic buildings... there is the stadium which has yet to be released, and the swimming centre which is now available in the STEX. I think I saw older ones (torches, olympic rings..) on other sites, but I can't remember which ones. But there are numerous buildings which could be easially lot-edited (flags, flora, fanciness) to make them look more olympic-like 1.gif But really, most olympic areas consist of a LOT of parks and ponds/canals.

Oh.. and this just came to mind... is there any Piccadilly Circus look-a-like in Norwich? I know the real Piccadilly Circus is in London, but just wondering42.gif

Oakhill Expands To Give Norwich It's Imminent Ring Road's Route

Good evening once again folks and welcome to Norwich. Tonight we're back in Oakhill, the site of Gresham Palace and the Houses Of Parliament, to report on developments. The A4 corridor has been expanded westwards, from Pentney Services almost as far as Gresham Bridge.
The first picture here is of Liberty Square and Liberty Square Station. Built in honour of fallen soldiers who lived and died in the name of freedom, throughout the ages....

    18Oakhill.jpg

Next here is the beautiful Church Of Our Lady. The Church is hamous for the services it gives at important occasions such as Christmas and Easter, and tourists flock to snap the winderful flowers in bloom......

    19Oakhill.jpg

Due to a rocketing population Norwich has felt the requirement for a large cemetery. It has also felt such a requirement to commemorate allied troops who have lost their lives in the two Gulf Wars with Iraq. Politics aside, we must honour their courage and dedication..........

    20Oakhill.jpg

A new sporting arrival - Pentney Football Club near to the A4 Pentney flyover.....

    21Oakhill.jpg

Back to Liberty Square (far right) and some offices have sprung up......

    22Oakhill.jpg

A little further west takes us to a mainly residential area, with the Royal College Of Engineering in the bottom left corner.....

    23Oakhill.jpg

Just to the north of the Church Of Our Lady, is Pentney Golf Course on the banks of the River Hex. With Gresham Palace on the opposite shore, this is one of the most exclusive clubs in town......

    24Oakhill.jpg

And now, we ascend in the helicopter to give you two aerial pictures......

Well, tonight I have a few things to say:
    1. In regards to your very beautiful memorial, i must be pickey to point out there's a Canadian and American flag on it.. Not a British one22.gif
    2. Hehe... the cars drive on the other side of the road4.gif Sorry... I'm weird like that
    3. Nice church/cathedral! But... don't you think that the cemetary might be a wee to big?
    4. Norwich is nearing the 3-million mark! YAY! 9.gif
    5. Oh dear... I would hate to be a daily commuter in that city... even with the extensive train network... May we see some in-city traffic volume maps?
    6. I think you should go into GodMode and add some trees.. especially over the areas around the palace and empty areas like on the hill in Oakhill.

And now, a piece of advice:

Don't zone high-density in the outer areas. Keep it to low and some mid-density. I know some people say that airports, zonings, etc. don't affect the whole region, but in my experiences of gameplay, it does. If it works right and you start zoning only low density and some mid-density (very little mind you), the demand for high-density will keep building up and up and eventually be off the graph. When this happens, go into Central Norwich or Kelseyheath (or anywhere along the river around the U-Bend), and you SHOULD have a major building boom. but make sure you have really good EQ's, fire/police/school coverage, and high desireabilities and land values. This should help with the no-developing parts of Norwich

And, I believe that's it. If I feel like posting anything else, you can be sure I will. 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 35.gif

Thanks again for your comments Matt, you're a genuine regular!!! (A fan, or just feelin' sorry for me?!!!2.gif).

    1. If I was a whizz with the LOT editor or had time to figure it out, I would have changed it to a British flag, but oh well!

    2. Yes, we Brits drive on the left side of the road - we love to be awkward....

    3. A population of almost 3 million - and a bunch of poxy 3x3 cemeteries to bury all the dead - I've heard of paper and glass recycling, but graves......?

    4. Yay!!!!

    5. I hate being a daily commuter full stop. Much rather: lay in bed/play sim city/visit simtropolis/go back to bed.....

    6. The hill in Oakhill (Parliament Hill) IS covered in trees......

The suburbs will start after I've built my ring road. So I haven't reached my outer edges yet, not by quite some distance. I know what you're saying, and fundamentally I agree, but I can't be bothered with zoning low density, then mid, then high, I just go for the jugular - decide what I want it to look like when I'm done - and zone accordingly. I have already made quite a few suburbs throughout the region, but the urban sprawl REALLY will sprawl. Only problem is - I went to play tonight, but decided not to. Getting a bit bored maybe, need some encouragement or inspiration to get the enthusiasm back....34.gif&nbsp

    OK, here's some encouragement: 35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif44.gif

Inspiration? Well, I did send that PM 37.gif. I hope it helped.

Oh, I wanna see some traffic data maps, too.

    Again, 44.gif

    a) I'm a fan 9.gif
    b) I know how you're feeling with the bordom/lack of enthusiasm.. Now I don't know your emotional circumstances, but these should either inspire you greatly, or make you feel a little awkward, or turn you into a hopeless pile of nothing. They're satelite shots of some cities.. so choose wisely:
