From briefly watching a gameplay clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj8jbm5kXKw), it would appear that the music is indeed quite short and loops often - at least for the first music track in the game. I suppose whoever ripped it did not correctly configure it to have proper looping, but the music is there in full, otherwise. I guess that's some information for anyone else who might have been wondering the same.

So I took a look at the SimEverything compilation I linked earlier, and it had music from an entire game I wasn't even aware of: SimCity Jr. which was a Japan-only SNES port of SimTown. It also has a couple tracks from the SNES and Saturn ports of SC2K I missed, titled MP3 versions of the SimCopter/Streets of SimCity radio ads and DJ spots, MP3 versions of the first SimCity's music and better titles for the Amiga CDTV version. It's not organized by folder though - it's all in one massive ZIP file. Still worth checking out!

Back when I was trying to get into retro computing, I messed around with soundfonts and Roland MT-32/CM-32L emulation. I even bought the dedicated Roland Sound Canvas emulation software solution from Roland, but it was much better to just use a Roland SC-55 soundfont. Said soundfont wasn't perfectly accurate, but it was more than good enough. I played with soundfonts based on various hardware devices from the past. I also had an mt32-pi built using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W connected to my "modern" PC.

When I was working on a project at my local community college, a student on the project was into collecting guitars because "each one sounded a little bit different." I didn't actually say it or think it at the time, but I later thought of "Welcome to the world of sound cards, MIDI modules, and wavetable synthesis daughterboards!" as a response. If you look on YouTube, you'll find some popular MIDI tunes from DOS games, such as GRABBAG from Duke Nukem 3D, being played with over 70 different sound devices for comparison.

Fun fact: Buffalo sauce contains the entire DNA sequence of buffalo, so you can clone buffalo while eating buffalo wings with buffalo sauce at Buffalo Wild Wings in Buffalo, New York. I've never tried it, though.

Absolutely. That's why there's like six different versions of the SC2K music available for download: I figured it was necessary for posterity's sake.

I'm even thinking about putting up an AdLib version since I know a lot of people used it back in the 90s. When I played in the early 2000s I had the Microsoft general MIDI, so naturally that was the very first version I had up.

My two favorite game franchises are SimCity and Command and Conquer. C&C is a goldmine of great tracks, some of which sound neat in SimCity. For instance, this song sounds like mixing SC3K jazz with SC4's hip hop and night scenes. And it's from a war game! *:P

Very nice find! That's very well done, and they sure made a great job of the remix. That sure takes musical talent to construct a tune by ear.

On a related note, I noticed a suggested video which has the same Jerry Martin tune played by a live orchestral band:

Pretty cool I think, even though the tune is quite a bit slower than the original. I found if increasing playback speed to 1.15 via the "Custom" option in the settings, it matches more closely to what we're familiar with. I notice on the projection screen it shows some gameplay snippets from SC4 as well.

I like how they create the same musical feel of the track, with the variances from playing live.

Timeless tunes, timeless game. It'll sure be fun to get back to SC4 someday...

I found out there's an Internet Archive upload of Sim-Melody from SimCity 2000, so I added it to the OP. That along with the FLAC download of SimCity 64's music in the description of the YouTube video that Haljackey posted...last year. Sorry for the delay!

Anybody here know of a way to mod the Mac soundtrack into the windows version of SimCity 2k ? from what i remember the Macintosh version sounded better. the tracks need to be in midi format for it to work, not mp3.

The sc2kfix plugin for the Windows 95 version of SC2K allows you to use MP3s instead of MIDI, which is a really nice feature. I highly recommend using it!

You're welcome! When I first heard about the project, I was immediately intrigued... and then upon trying it for the first time, I was immediately hooked! I can't go back to the "vanilla" Windows 95 version, even on my vintage machines!

We've added this message thread divider in every topic across all forums for what were then active threads. (We decided active is if the most recent extant post (from the backup) was on or after 1 January, 2026.)

This divider serves as notice that the conversation was interrupted. Answers and further discussion which used to be here have been lost. Keep this in mind when replying. Our hope is to rebuild what is missing.
