DJ Defacto presents a special Mayor Radio mix to celebrate 20 years of SimCity 4!
fugosushi replied to fugosushi's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I just wanted to let anyone who's interested know that I've added another 20 tracks to this playlist recently And if you liked this playlist, you might also like another one I just finished. It's an epic 50-hour long playlist for sim and tycoon games in general: Sim Games Megamix https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7cGD0G5rsjDgjE24OV3fPZ Lots of house, jazz, downtempo, and chill lounge, all designed for creating flow states and generally happy, positive vibes. Let me know what you think!- 13 Replies

@Null 45 A DLL hack that adds the sorely missing bulldoze hotkey that was in SC3000: the ability to hold down the ALT key and turn whatever tool you are using into the bulldoze tool temporarily

I mean this with all the best intentions for your greatest life and complete success: learn how your mind works. Your imagination creates your reality. If you say you usually have a very good outlook in your life, and the immediately proceed to say your dreams are "crushed" six different ways, then I would suggest that you don't actually have a good outlook. Your mindset/outlook/self-concept is dragging you down, and it creates a self-fulfilling prophesy. Reality is only what you make of it, not the other way around. You are the cause of everything you experience in life. If this is seriously your intention, then I would begin immediately to study how your mind works and the laws of success. Read the book I suggested to you. Read other success books like Think And Grow Rich, the Science of Getting Rich, or Psycho Cybernetics. Your way's clearly not working then. Why not try looking at your life from a totally different way? Try looking at your life as an experiment. Study your mind and successful people, learn what they did to succeed. You literally have nothing to lose. Your life can only get better. You have access to the internet, which means you have access to pretty much all the knowledge of humanity. You can help yourself by studying what other successful people did to succeed. If they did it, you can too. Seriously, I wish you all the greatest success and happiness in the world!

I just wanted to throw in a few bits of advice after reading all of your responses here. @matias93 and @TheMurderousCricket had some very good suggestions, and I would add too, a couple other things. In my real life career I'm a mindset coach, and there's two things I would tell you right away. Check your self talk and also stop comparing yourself to anyone else. Comparison is a mind killer; it just creates stress and feelings of worthlessness, and eventually burnout. You'll never be good enough, pretty enough, successful enough if all you're doing is noticing how you're not as smart or young or connected or talented as others. (It's totally fine to want to emulate attributes that you see other people being or doing, but once you've decided what you want, write it down as a clearly stated goal, and then drop all comparisons from your life). And second, notice how negative your self talk is: "I don't have anything to do now", "it's pretty hard. It seems like I can't get a good life", "I'm not that privileged enough", "You can't have your own company, especially not from scratch, if you don't have rich parents", "You can't even have awesome modding skills if you don't have good enough computer to begin with", "And that'd mean better machines which I can't afford", etc.. Your subconscious mind hears every single one of those thoughts and over time it becomes your self concept. 95% of all of our thoughts, beliefs and actions are driven from the subconscious, so whatever you say about yourself becomes true for you. If you want a really good book to introduce you to the idea of positive self talk, check out one called "What To Say When You Talk To Yourself"

I completely agree. While SC4's soundtrack has a lot of great moments in it, and SC2000's has quite a few charmers, it's SC3000's soundtrack that I believe defined the series. There's not a bad song in the whole bunch. And indeed, it is among one of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Thanks. I like to think of him as my little "catstronaut" or even a "space cat-et"- 13 Replies

Oh wow, thanks! I found that picture a few years back (possibly on Google images or maybe Tumblr). I was looking for a nice image of SimCity for a wallpaper on my desktop. When I saw that I thought it was perfect, even thought I didn't even know who made it. Glad you like it for the cover image. It's a great image, and an awesome looking city too!- 13 Replies

Comprehensive SimCity Music Collection, Version 3.2
fugosushi replied to trar's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I too have been making my own playlist of songs that sound like SimCity music. A lot of them are so uncanny, you'll swear they were actually from the real game. Check out the full playlist on Spotify if you'd like to hear what I'm talking about: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3z0uFhT3Q9ryiRs6KGtEDh -

Music from the SimCity franchise has always had a very special place in my heart, especially SC3000 and SC4. And I wanted to do something special for the 20th anniversary this year, so I put together a playlist of music that I've been collecting over the years with an uncanny resemblance to the official Maxis soundtracks. It's got everything from bright and brassy bebop, to laid-back and cool jazz, to that unmistakable blend of late 90s/early 00s trip hop, downtempo, and atmospheric drum n bass, and everything else in between! Almost 9 hours of continuous city-building music, featuring: Henry Mancini, St Germain, The Irresistible Force, Herbie Hancock, Spactime Continuum, A Forest Mighty Black, HNNY, Cannonball Adderley, Fila Brazillia, Greg Foat, Lemongrass, Michel Legrand, LTJ Bukem, The Cinematic Orchestra, Andras, Sweatson Klank, Art Blakey, Session Victim, Jimpster, Hank Mobley, Air, Mo' Horizons, Tosca, Pharoah Sanders, Hidden Orchestra, Mr. Scruff, Photek, Pig&Dan, Miles Davis, Folamour, Ken Ishii, Les Baxter, Oliver Nelson, FaltyDL, and so much more! Please enjoy listening to it, and let me know what you think. SimCity vibes: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3z0uFhT3Q9ryiRs6KGtEDh- 13 Replies

is there a plugin to bring back "temporary bulldoze" hotkey like SC3000??
fugosushi replied to fugosushi's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
ya, i'm aware of the SHIFT + TAB -- especially when i realize that i just passed the puzzle piece i really wanted what's really annoying is that the puzzle piece reverts back to the first piece every time you select that tool. it would be nice if the NAM stuff remembered what puzzle piece we were just using so we don't have to wear out our TAB keys just to find it again -

i have a few issues with SimCity 4, however probably my biggest complaint is the fact that they removed the most useful hotkey in the whole game: the ability to hold down the ALT key and turn whatever tool you are using into the bulldoze tool temporarily (and if i remember correctly, you could also hold down the CTRL key and it would temporarily give you the Query tool). Why this was removed is beyond me! This (not considering the game occasionally crashing to desktop) is probably the most significant time-waster in the game, and is a source of incredible game-fatigue (over the hundreds or thousands of hours one might play the game). this is even more true with mods like NAM: it's very frustrating to press TAB like 20 times on a transportation puzzle piece -- only to then realize that in order to build, for example the "GLR x Avenue - transition to road (right) and tram (left) side - with crossing road" piece, you need to bulldoze a few tiles first, and then go back and find that same puzzle piece again (by pressing TAB 20 times, hahaha!). in SimCity 3000, you could simply hold down the ALT key before plopping something down, bulldoze what you needed, and let go of the ALT key and you'd go right back to the tool you had last selected. what a huge time saver!! does anyone know of any plugins/hacks/mods that bring back this almost-essential functionality? (also holding down CTRL to enable query would be nice). and if not, would someone be willing to program a plugin that would accomplish this? thanks (ETA: made some changes to be easier to understand)
