One of the things I like about my dual core.  The music plays in the other core (not much CPU anyway) but it doesn't interrupt anything.  A good farming out trick to multi-task SC4 would be to shove the audio off on a separate task.

    5 pages. Heavy stuff!

And if you could tell us how to shunt that processing over to the other CPU (i have a dual-core also), I at least would be grateful.

I don't really do anything.  With SC4 running in one CPU, everything else must run in the other.  My system monitor shows CPU-0 gets to 100% and stays there, more or less, while the other is taking all the other flack.  If you use the -CPUcount:1 option I think that does the trick, at least on Linux.

I've been meaning to try doing that sooner or later. When I get around to wrangling with SC4, I will.

Anyway! New stuff uploaded to Dropbox: The music from SimAnt (Windows MIDI and SNES) and the music from SimTown, SimFarm (DOS and W32) and SimLife in OGG format from the VGMPF. Also, the WillTV shorts from SimCity 2000 Special Edition; you'll need RAD Video Tools to play the video files.

So simfmx has offered me an admin position at the http://www.homestudiosunlimited.com/ forums (when the redesign is done in July) on account of how well I've managed this collection, apparently. I've accepted. Maybe I can pool my music uploads there.

Nice collection.  One gripe tho.  Why .rar?  It took me a while to find a good .rar extractor that wasnt full of malware, spyware or adware.  Much prefer zipped files that my OS can open/extract automatically.

Other than that gripe, I really enjoy what i could get of the collection.  Keep up the good work!

Back when I was first assembling the collection, I unconsciously chose the RAR format because WinRAR was my primary compressor program. (I prefer 7Zip these days, but still use WinRAR when necessary)

I can't blame you for your software gripes, but WinRAR works well enough (even if it tells you to register every so often), and 7Zip is like WinRAR but lighter, more versatile and free (and while it can't create RAR files, it can open and extract them). What program did you get?

And I'd like to know what you mean by "what i could get of the collection". If you really want all the files, I'd recommend using 7Zip to extract them. Honestly, it would be an undue hassle to convert all of the parts to ZIP or somesuch. Surely you understand. :P

The linux archiver will both open and make just about anything.  .rar format is one of about two dozen.

^ Vista is essentially a beta for W 7, but I understand it is fixed up these days.  Try a Linux dual boot.  You may never look back.

Sorry, didnt mean that to come out negative.  I had internet issues on my end so my DL was cut short.  That and other assorted RL issues had my temper rising a bit.  My apologies for being brusque.

I have since completed what I needed to get.  Thanks again for the awesome collection!

It happens. Good to hear you've got that sorted out. That same issue is why I basically can't upload to MediaFire anymore. I prefer using that over Dropbox because it saves me space.

Alright, I've added music from a version of SimCity Classic I discovered recently, a Deluxe version of sorts. Two MIDI files and two MP3 recordings. I also updated the readme and the titles of some of the downloads. Oh, yes, and I found the music from SimCity 2013 available here, for listening and downloading. I'm just linking it, remember.

I've transferred the stuff I hosted on my Dropbox to my MediaFire account. Saves me space and bandwith.

Well first thank you for maintaining this collection of music. I already had most of this but it's convenient for everyone to find this in one place.

I also have the sc2013 music and it's not bad... kinda repetitive and boring in the end, but not bad.

I just saw you planned to upload the Streets of simcity music too. This will make a great addition. Some of the songs are a bit weird (some bluegrass and some generic hard-rock) but others are truly in the jazzy style of SC3K and worth adding to our music folders.

Anyway... thanks again for this topic.

    It is my pleasure.

The Streets of SimCity music may be a while, though. Got stuff going on and all that. If you find it and want to post it here, you will get credit!

My connection is not the fastest... Ok here it is :

    http://www.multiup.org/fr/miror/d544189ed6169ad4530d27409681f1ff/2007_-_Streets_of_SimCity.rar

This is not the best simcity related OST but it has its merits.

Most of the tracks are from Jerry martin, and if you don't know who Jerry Martin is, he composed most of the SC3K soundtrack. But well... let's say it was not one of his best days... or we can guess he did was he was told to do. The best tracks here are not from him but from Marc Russo. And his "Sweet octane" is the best here (maybe better than what Martin composed for SC3K). Anna Karney's "Combustion junction" is almost as good.

The other tracks are not bad... pick what you like ;)

    • Biff, it seems that part 1-1 and part 1-2 contain the exact same files, could you please check that out, please? I really want the whole SC4 soundtrack! Also very nice job with the rest of the compilation!  :thumb:

I've edited the link; it seems I accidentally posted the same link twice. You should be able to download Part 1-1 now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Just to elaborate a little... Jerry did the music on most of Maxis' catalog from SimCopter all the way to The Sims 2.  In that period of time (1996-2004) he worked on SimCity 3000, SimCity 4, and most of the music for The Sims in addition to other projects like SimCopter and Streets of SimCity.

Also, it's worth noting that some of the music from Streets and SimCopter was recycled into The Sims and its expansion packs.  Some of the music from Streets is used as TV jingles, and a couple of the tracks on the Techno station in SimCopter were remixed as music tracks for the House Party expansion.

If anyone has any other information on the music, feel free to post it here. This thread could be itself a bonus of sorts; a bonus of information.
