These BATs are amazing and they make SimGoober's work look like a poop. It is really funny to read those pages: ???????????Simtropolis???????????TWrecks!???!!??. Makes me wonder, do they say anything positive.

LOL - do you remember where you read that? 3.gif I'd like to have a look myself. That's too funny - and strange somehow. They know we exist, we know they exist, we watch them, and I guess your post proves that they watch us. Yet there is not much communication...

EDIT:

Ah, never mind. I saw it. That must have been 2ch.net simplayer. He's an HKABT member here on ST, and I understand he speaks Japanese. He must have told these guys that he sent the rice paddies to me to mod. Which reminds me... 2.gif

It's strange. This Simtropolis-Japanese Website relationship seems like 2 distant planets are looking at each other through a telescope. Both groups are aware that they are being watched, but both are waiting for the day that someone from the "other side" will land on their planet and attempt communication.

We come in Peace.

Trouble is, both the STEX and the Japanese sites are disorganized/confusing in their own special way.

I mean, c'mon. The STEX needs to have lots of subcategories instead of randomly searching into 3000 downloads. Think SimPeg.

Well said. I think it's safe to say that they struggle with English almost as much as we do with Japanese, which makes the BATs themselves the main form of communication between the two communities.

Be sure that they watch this thread though and are aware that a very large audience here at Simtropolis follows their work. There are also a few tutorials on the Japanese sites about how to register and navigate Simtropolis, similar to the guide I started here for the Japanese sites.

Interestingly, the only person I know of who is able to participate actively in both communities is 2ch.net. simplayer, although Moshi has recently offered to act as a go-between in case anyone needs it.

The STEX DOES have tons of subcategories - however it sorts by newest by default. To see only specific types of buildings, just use the drop down menus to sort everything.

And searching through 3,000 downloads without any filters isn't very hard. As long as you keep your search phrase general, you usually only have to look through a page or so.

Yeah, if you'd bothered to look at his profile, you would have seen that he dosen't need a translator as he lives in Japan.

Here's your chance to be an ambassador, Moshi...

From screenshots, I've seen that the NAM is popular among the Japanese SC4 community. You might have a look on some of the forums and see if they are aware that a new version is out and, if not, you could let them know...

2ch.net simplayer has released the onoden building...

AkibaOnoden.JPG

Download here.

I found this on Ragutaro's BBS...

TokyoDome-03.jpg

It's the tokyo dome, made by an author by the name of kei, found here, download here.

His(her) website can be found here, other downloads are available from the links in the second light bluish box from the bottom.

EDIT: I might make a tutorial for this website... some props needed for some lots...

BTW, pnorrell, that lucent tower is not from the same author as that midland square... the author of lucent tower also made the midland square, but the midland square you posted is much better3.gif (linkie to his bat showcase, although the corse building below is mysteriously not included) The author's name is Shi Huangdi (shi-ko-tei), and has recently released the fictional Corse Building:

corsebuilding.jpg

The midland square you posted is from this website.

Hope this helps3.gif

That is NOB's wonderful recreation of the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall, which, as the most symbolic surviving ruin near the city's ground zero, will forever be remembered in history as the A-Bomb Dome.

NOB is a regular poster on Ragutaro's great Hide and SEEK! boards, but NOB's stuff is actually found on his personal site hIMAGINE at http://www1.megaegg.ne.jp/~tokitoko/  (any personal webpage link on the hide-inoki boards is a small "www" button at the bottom of each poster's message).  Fortunately, NOB's website is in both Japanese and English, so it is easy to navigate and find the download.  It does require Ragutaro's HaS_Prop prop pack, which is the link you originally saw.

Would the Simtropolis maintainers (Dirk?) be interested in implimenting internationalization (i18n) tools? I found this link: http://www.i18ngurus.com/docs/996478997.html. Maybe they already have, to some degree. 'In Theory', if my browser claims I speak primarily Japanese, all the standard interface buttons like 'New Topic', 'Profile', 'Help' and such should come up in Japanese. If I were to go to Help, FAQ and such, it might be extreemly useful to have those come up in the language of my choice, presuming there was someone who is able to translate them.

I've not used Cold Fusion, and I don't know what i18ngurus has to offer. I strongly suspect that the i18ngurus folks might have quite a bit to offer, and if Simtropolis were made 'i18n spec', more friendly to *all* languages, we may have things to offer the Asian community directly on Simtropolis.

The goal, as I see it, would be having those really freakin' cool bats uploaded *here* by the source author, rather than having them scattered across a dozen Asian sites that are difficult for us to navigate. Of course, if they can't navigate and participate with Simtropolis, that's not going to happen.

    Anyway, just an idea.
