You know, I'd thought of doing this...but never did it. I know this will be very useful and will eliminate one of the major problems with the CDTM. Thanks.

Eeeps that is EXACTLY the CD terrain I've dreamt about from the first moment I installed that mod. There really isn't anything that I want more right now than that.

Except for those awesome cul-de-sacs. And those pools. And those playgrounds... Am I being too needy?17.gif

But no I almost jumped up and yelled hooray! when I saw that. Until I realized my roomie is sleeping, and waking sleeping roomie= bad news bears...22.gif

BTW: I don't think I've said this yet-- jeronij, you do some stand-up work. You say your cities are just showcases for your awesome mods. I can honestly say this-- I have never seen a showcase that deserves it's own showcase as well...

Jeronij-

I hope you didn't mistake the tone of my last post and think I was angry, because I'm not.  It was late at night and I was tired, so maybe I should have waited until morning to write my post.  Please excuse any possible misunderstanding.

I understand that you create a lot of custom content for your cities...that's one of the reasons I am watching you develope this one and asking so many questions.  I don't know if I'll ever get around to learning how to create my own custom stuff, but somewhere down the line I hope to, which is another reason I watch what you do.  I see the possibilities I would never have thought about on my own.  And while I am an old hand at city building, I've never delved into the world of custom content before, so I have a lot of catching up to do before I am up to speed with things more advanced players consider to be basic or simple.  I am still trying to understand the difference, for example, between Modds, Bats, and Lots.  While this may seem elemental to others, the differences aren't always so clear to us newbies, as the lines between them are often a bit blurry.

So, it's not always clear to me, when you list other people's work as contributary to your own, whether you mean a ready-made lot that you plopped (like the alien research center), a prop you used to create a new modified lot, or what.

I realize that when posting your work publicly like this, you are running into lots of people with hugely varying degress of experience with the game and so trying to explain things down to the minutae is impossible.  In the future, I'll stumble along as best I can and not harangue you for failing to be my personal SC guru, hahahaha.

Now about the snow modd.  So far I am not liking any of the snow mods.  All of them just seem to turn the ground varying shades of white from a certain elevation upwards, and that's not how snow behaves.  Snow falls at just about all elevations and most importantly (to me) with varying depths of accumulation.  Trees at higher elevations aren't immune to becoming snow covered, so to me any snow modd would have to affect the trees as well, not to mention any buildings that happened to be above the snowline.  I have read a little bit about a rain mod that someone discovered and activated in the game...maybe it would be possible to modify that to create a more RL type snow.  Simulating weather in a game is devilishly hard, which is why most games ignore it.  How could you mod the wild animals to step higher through a high snow than they do over ground without snow?  How could you create glaciers?  Maybe SC5 will address the issue of semi-realistic weather, but I think we might all have to trade in our computers and buy main frames, if it did.

Still, the limitations of the game being what they are, both of the snow mods look pretty good.  If and when you ever pulish yours to the STEX, I'll probably download it and use it...

I do like the snow capped mod. Basically Idvger is right snow falls down and covers stuff. I believe the current game is insufficient to make a truly realistic snow capped terrain. Standard SC4 buildings are not snow covered, so in those areas you can only use special made lots. Animals tend to behave different in snow but also the behaviour of animals, cars and people in snow is different.

What I especially like about the mod is that there are patches of snow in lower areas. It is like the snow melted a bit away and these are some remnants.
Although I will probably never use either Cycledoggs terrein or this mod as I lack the time to terraform an entire region, I love watching yours and others CJ using this mod. So I am looking forward to your most ingenious designs.

The snowmod looks great. And the terraforming isn't bad. It still looks great.

So keep up the good work44.gif

The snowcapped version of Cycledogg's Terrain Mod looks amazing, Jeronji! I've only recently installed this wonderful mod and find that it works wonders for the natural beauty of my own regions.. The only problem I had with it were that my once beautiful snowcapped mountains were now barren..

Problem solved, I guess..9.gif Amazing looking snow.. It's a wonderful effect to see some of the terrain underneath shining through..

The roundabouts and parking lots look amazing as well.. I've been using one of Pegasus' parking lots to end my streets up to this point, but unfortunately it's impossible to have any kind of development along this parking lot.. Do you know if it's possible to zone something next to your lot or is that impossible?

Great job with this City Journal! A lot of inspiration here for Chaumont.. 9.gif Keep it up!

Jeroni my friend...the snow capped mod looks amazing!!  Hopefully, with your contact with CD the two of you can come up with a way to combine both mods in to one and make them work perfectly.  CD's Terrain MOD V2, courtesy of Jeroni. 17.gif

I agree, the game is lacking in a way to truely make snow act properly.  But, until the time when that is figured out, I think this will do splendidly.

Great work as always my friend... keep em coming... 44.gif

Just like Darmok my jaw dropped down to my knees. It will be a wonderful day when I can have cycledogg's terrain mod and still have the snowcapped mountains that I miss now.

Those beaches look wonderful. Cycledog and Teirusu you two are great with making the snow capped mod for Columbus mod. Without this, our mountains just don't look right. Hope to see that beach mod that works with Columbus terrain (hint hint 2.gif) up for download same for the snowcapped. Great job Jeronij, Cycledog, and Teirusu!

Love the Alien Research Center, Jeronij!

Snow modding: I saw a few comments about weather mods or snow scenes.

Doing it exactly correct would be a huge task!

The best way I can see it, is an entire mod for snow covered buildings and trees, etc. It would be huge undertaking, similar to SimMars possibly.

It would have to be a permanent year round effect, as a transitional one for snow covered roofs and every tree, would be nearly impossible, I think.

Just one beer and I can't be beat. Just a whole case and I can't remember, who beat me up.

.....*arriving from a sprint from another thread that said there was a snow-capped mod in the works that works with the CD's terrain mod*......

jeronij, you know me I suppose, to have send me here. That snow-capped mod looks good with CD's terrain mod. Hope you can have it for us to download.
I personally would like the snowmod to be a little higher, I mean in higher altitudes, just maybe 3 or 4 grids higher. Wondering though, if that is possible??? I don't have enough knowledge in modding though.

You impressed me once more.
I wish I had the time to do some BATting25.gif.

I'll keep an eye on both now, the cul-de-sac and the snow caps.2.gif

Did you create those cool buildings in the alien research center jeronij? If not, may I ask where you downloaded them?

Check out SOMY 's homepage.

PS: Found the link in Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery or look in Armandeus' Japanese links .

I don't mean to sound stupid, but will those awesome Japanese bats work in the US version? I don't want to mess anything up. Sorry for the bother.

Wow white sand.

If I could I would help you Jeronij with the cul-de-sacs but I am terrible with this kind of software as you might remember from SCR.

Looking forward to the next update of Simtropia.10.gif
Have a nice weekend.
