That looks good, and the commercial district along that road (though repetitive) also looks good. I know you're limited by the amount of BATs you have, but around here, along major roads, there's a gas station every block, with fast food, and the shops (and maybe a supermarket) that you've put in.

Jeronij-

Great update, lots of comments and questions.

First, a couple of replies.  I would post a link to the tutorial I mentioned, if I knew how.  Last night I tried to reply to mcsouse's question about money mods and post a link to the mod I use, but every time I tried to insert a link, I lost the post I had written.  Can someone, anyone, clue me in?  And, BTW mcsouse, I use the Simolean RH mod by raphaelninja, which gives me $100 million to start my city with (at the Easy setting...you get less at more difficult levels).  You can find the mod under Modding Files in the sidebar at the left.

Second, I don't think I have my NAM properly installed, because I can't find any way to access any of the things that are supposed to be in it.  I love the roundabouts (wish I could use them) but am wondering if they come in different sizes for various sized  roads.  I would also like to figure out how to access the left turn lanes.  I will try playing around with one way roads tonite to see if I can split them off in opposing directions, like you did.

Now for comments:

I like the way you group your educational facilities.  Makes good sense and you think I would have figured this out by now.

I also like the way you create green space in the centers of your residential blocks.  I have done this off and on for years, with varying levels of success.

So far, I am not really liking your creating a strip of commercial buildings, but that's just personal preference.  I tend to take more of a neighborhood approach, especially in residential areas, by zoning spaced street intersections as commercial properties.  I am posting now and then to the New Urbanism vs Sprawl thread elsewhere on this site, taking the New Urbanism side of the debate.  I tend to like to develop mixed use areas in the early stages of a city, then concentrate my commercial properties in an urban downtown center.

I am really liking the way you are building region-wide transportation networks way ahead of zoning.  I've never done that before, although I have built my transportaion networks in the individual cities first before.  Having a money mod really helps to create infrustucture ahead of time...not very realistic, perhaps, in view of the way RL cities grow, but if I wanted to grow a RL city, I'd run for Mayor (or City Council).

Lastly, I'm not real enthusiastic about your building industry along your coastlines.  Water pollution (in fact environmental pollution of any kind) is a huge concern of mine both in RL and in the game, so I try to keep my coasts wild or recreational.  Seaports are cool and add a big economic plus to the game, but when I use them I tend to keep them fairly isolated.

Now the questions:

The pedestrian bridge near the schools...is that an in game feature or a custom creation?  If custom, where can I get one?  Same with the neighborhood pools.

A lot of folks are commenting on the overpasses and I'm going to join in.  How do you build those?  The overpass bridge looks to be a possible NAM puzzle piece, but I guess my question is, do you mini-terraform a long narrow slope first?

Next to the pedestrian bridge between the schools is a very large tower of some sort.  What is it?

Are the parking lots adjacent to the schools custom or in-game?  If custom, where do I find them?

One last comment.  I've worked on a few RL school projects in my 30 year career as an architect and need to tell you that running a road between the school and any school amenities  (like the parking access road in your high school) is not a good idea.  Kids need to cross the road to get to the baseball field and/or tennis courts...not good, especially with newly licensed teenage drivers!  Best to access parking directly from a street and keep school amenities directly adjacent to the school or reachable by paths not intersected my vehicular traffic.

Overall, a great job!  I am getting more and more excited about starting my own region-wide CJ (I am in fact shopping for a terrain to build on) and am practising my skills with the mods I have downloaded and installed.  Like so many folks have said, your work inspires me!

Keep up the good work!

Sorry for the double post, don't know what happened.  When I hit submit, I got a message that web site is not responding, so I hit the reload.  If I knew how to delete the extra post, I would.

Jeronij, you even make gridded towns look fabulous.

Lots of details and some questions from me as well:

1. Next to some of the straight Tarmac roads you have a yellow box/cabin. That is not in the Tarmac set you placed on Stex. What is it supposed to be?

2. Playgrounds
I have searched the Huge Japanese Database, Zimzone, EA Simcity site and Simtropolis for playgrounds but these are the first that are original and nice to look at. You mentioned they are custom made. Please, please, please put them on STEX (or add them as link to your reply).

3. Parking lots. On the school detailed picture (5.05 I believe) at the end of the avenue I see on both sides a parking lot. Now that is something I have not seen befoer. Is it custom made, is it a part of NAM, what is it and how did you get it?

Now to lower the burden on your shoulders I will answer some of the questions of Idgver:

The pedestrian bridge near the schools...is that an in game feature or a custom creation?  If custom, where can I get one: you can get it here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=2914

Same with the neighborhood pools. I do not know. Pools on STEX do not give an answer.
Next to the pedestrian bridge between the schools is a very large tower of some sort What is it?
Are the parking lots adjacent to the schools custom or in-game?  If custom, where do I find them? Did I have the same question or are you referring to the parkinglots of Jeronij's Tarmac set (look for Jeronij on Stex)

Good Tip

Jeroni,

My dear, dear friend.  I have lurked here long enough.  I have been slightly ill lately, and have been having many problems in real life (including the need to try to connect more with my family...you know that feeling. 2.gif)  Those things have prevented me from posting thus far, but I have followed each update faithfully.

I must say that I truely love this CJ.  It is not SCR, but that is a good thing.  I don't think that SCR can ever be replaced or even duplicated.  This CJ is on the same level or maybe it will even be a notch above SCR when it's all said and done.

I really can't make specific comments on each update, because that would take all day for me to type and you to read. 17.gif  Let's just say that I love what you are doing.  It all looks great.  I must agree with others, I like the whole map out the roads first and draw in the development aftwards concept...I must start doing that myself.

Before I close this post though, I want to answer a question for you...

Nik-nik - Those box/cabins that you see along the tarmac trails near the school playing fields are actually bathrooms.  I created these for Jeroni as part of the Addon Pack#1 for his Modular Zoo and Aquarium (search the STEX under my name...it's the only pack I've released so far.)

I will try to post more often...I certainly love this CJ for all it's beauty and reality.  Jeroni my good friend... keep em coming!! 44.gif

    Hello dear Simtropia visitors !!!

I am glad to see that even  in an uninspired update I receive so much feedback !!!. I hope the next update will be more sculpted 2.gif.
I want to thank you also for your great suggestions and help with links and info. That is really welcome. The suggestions because they are usually logical and useful, and the help with links because it gives me some more free time 19.gif.

I am also glad to see that you noticed some of the fresh new custom lots I am using in Simtropia. Lets have a carefully look at the two first sets.

Those simple lots are using two fantastic props families created by Simgoober ( great work again !!!), wich allow three playground models and four pool models with two single lots.

WOW! AGAIN! Awesome update. To be honest, I like this city journal more than SCR! Maybe its because I am following each update more, and a jeronij journal is small and easy to navigate through. AWESOME!
