    lol

In chat a while ago, I had a contest where people had to figure out what my full name is, and simfan won.  3.gif

But there is still another version of that building to name!  So another contest!

I currently have 28 uploads.  I have named BATs after people in the past, and 6 people have had BATs named after them.  Some of those people have had multiple uploads named after them, though it might not be obvious.

Send me a PM with the names of 3 BATs of mine, 3 individual people, and who they are in relation to me (you can't just say that Washington Square Arch is named after "Washington").

You get to send me two PMs.  I will confirm what is correct in the first PM, and after that, you still have one PM to send me your final guesses.

Me and everyone who "won" will name the building (the second version of Nafmis Tower)

Some of the BATs obviously don't count.  For example, Washington Square Arch is named after George Washington, the first president of the US, but that doesn't count.  Only people from the SC community, or who I know in real life count.

If a BAT (only what is already on the STEX counts) is named after you, you get to include it!  lol

The contest will end in one week!

Also, I'll be changing the second version from what I posted before, to something like:

    O  O

    OXO

With the "O"s being wings, and the X being the tower.  It will probably be a 3x4 or 3x3, and it will fill up the entire block (it will not be wall to wall).

The building is nice and evokes a simpler version of the Shell Oil building in SF (Wrens RL counterpart)

Andreas Roth won the building naming contest!  39.gif

    Here's a new building I've started.

    modernprev01nn6.jpg

I'm trying to do the glass here similar to how SimFox has been doing his.

I don't know what this building will be.  The building is about 1.5 x 4 tiles big.  I think the lot will be a 3x4, with a plaza in the front.  It seems kind of small for an office building, so some kind of civic function would be best.

    Yay, I won! 4.gif

As for the new building, it looks excellent so far. We definitely need more midride buildings, and I think this will be a fine addition. I don't think that it's "too small" for an office building, though. Maybe you can add another floor on top, if you think it would be too small? A larger lot with plaza could work well, and I also think a 4x2 lot for a more dense development (and a higher stage) should work fine.

Another new project.  It's a CS$$$ department store.  It will be a 3x2, wall to wall.

Nofunk has modded The Knoll Building, and I have re-exported it with tweaked textures, so I will be uploading it to the STEX tonight.  1.gif

JosefMayor:  Well, you entered half of a submission.  You and Andreas were the only ones who entered anything.  3.gif

Ironically, this is almost identical to the Martin Luther King Library in DC, which is the flagship library in the District system (Library of Congress doesn't count).

Malcolm X College is another good comparison, wolverine.

I think the low turn out for the contest was exams. I know I was swamped. These buildings look awesome!

Thanks guys.  There's also another educational building like this in New York City, but I don't remember its name.

I spent a good chunk of yesterday doing the nitelites.  I don't have much of a preview of them because I'm not going back and changing them, lol.  They look good though.

Now I am on to lotting, but I've worked out two options.

    modernprev03tj0.jpg

There's #1 and #2.  So what do you guys think?

After it's decided which lot to work from, I'll do some finishing touches, make the readme, and it will be ready to upload to the STEX.

    # 1 looks better to me, just that pink base texture in the bottom right of the bottom right picture needs to be fixed IMO. The pink kinda clashes with the rest of the building. Either way still looks great.

btw, great BAT... And that new department store will be fantastic too =O (when it's finished).

    Great stuff!

I prefer #2, but I'm not a fan of the way you've laid out the trees. It's way too composed; I think you should go for something a little more organic.

#1 I hate that strip of extra pavement in #2, and I like the idea of having 1 side up close to the street like #1 has.

Number 2 that extra strip of pavement looks good for the ramp.

Yeah, I agree with wolverine. #1 looks better since the building (and grass patch) is closer to the sidewalk. However, those textures are looking quite ugly. I'd use the same ones as the texture used on #2. 2.gif
