Interesting shape! Is this a recreation or a building you made up?

In any case, the reflection pattern is a bit off in terms of distortion. It is a coherent distortion that could only exist if the entire wall was one gigantic glass pane. However, since the building would obviously be composed of hundreds of individual glass panes, the distortions should not carry over seamlessly. I think Jason has a pretty nice tutorial on window bump maps somewhere in his thread or blog.

And now for something taller, nice to see this one. :)

    Thanks! ^_^

This is a fictional building I made up, I had a random thought in my head and this was the result. :P

I will have to check out the tutorial, my glass game does need some work, thanks! :)

The colour is really nice but it's still a bit squigley like a swimming pool because the glass pattern is running into itself. To get around this you need to randomise the glass. I made a mini tutorial on randomising glass in my in the section called Tower Glass halfway down the page.

Thank You very much! Not sure if I did it quite right, but this is my result so far:

Oh dear.. no, it looked better before. I'm not even sure what setting is causing this. Probably try lowering the bump and noise settings. As a test, try unticking the bump map and re-render, if the squiggley lines go away then you know its something in there. I think it would have to be can't think of anything else... if you still get stuck please post a screen shot of your settings.

I won't comment much on technical details since I am adept at these stuff but yeah, the glass do looks weird. You can try adding more colors to the base though, perhaps a garden or some park props.

This is always a problem about all glass-covered buildings: Either the distortion is too high or the ground plane is too visible. I would advise you to increse transparency and put some curtains behind the glass (somple grey rectangles).

Well, another way to make the reflections somewhat more vague is to use a more garbled ground map. The glass should ideally give the idea that it is reflecting something city-ish around the building, but if the reflections are too clear, the illusion becomes too obvious. Distorting the reflection so far that it is no longer clearly discernible renders the reflection unrealistic, so making the ground plane more vague and garbled really is the best way.

It looks a lot better! I really like the color of the glass in general as well.

The reflections could be a little better, but don't get too hung up on them. Getting them perfect takes a lot of experience and time committed.

What I see that can still be improved is that there are a lot of very distinct square shapes in it, especially near the bottom where the bump map doesn't affect it as much. I can't help too much with specifics on how to fix it because I am just as inexperienced with glass like this. Other than the squares though, it looks really good.

This is looking much better IMO. I agree with Darn, the glass isn't "perfect" but don't get too hung up on it, it's really close.

In my experience any building that doesn't have perfectly square N-E-S-W sides is incredibly difficult to get right anyway, there's something about the way non-standard sides reflect the ground plane that makes the ground plane image really noticeably jump out. Distorting the ground plane seems to be the only way to get around this, but there's a subtle art to it. Can't wait to see the rest of it completed.

    In summary, looks great :thumb:

Well, something that just came to my mind: wouldn't it be possible to add a modifier to the ground plane giving it some waviness. I'm not entirely sure since I haven't 3ds opened and I didn't work with modifiers at all but I can think of something that is often used for flags.

I think the way the glass reflects the ground plane is really good now. However, I'd like to know which ground plane image are you using now. The reflections are very subdued now, much of the building is very dark. Maybe the culrpit is the ground plane because it has too many darker spots?

If you could blur the bottom half of the reflection so it doesn't look so pixelated, I think it would look better, but it does look amazing :D

Looks good :) Maybe add metering switchboard and some wires to make it more interesting? :) Roof entrance would be good too :)

If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
