Great work Vlasky! About the seawalls, they could be plopped using the 'setsealevel' cheat. That way they can be plopped right on the edge, just like vertical retaining walls. :)

edwardjeria: Thank you, I'm glad you like it.

Darknono35: Hopefully, there will be more, and soon ;)

Aaron Graham: Thank you buddy! :)

    Jasoncw: Thanks Master :P:*

RepublicMaster: Thanks for that info. If I have trouble with them, I'll remember to go to you :)

Now, quick update on the Maritime Exchange building. I've finished architectural modeling on it :D Yeeeey! Very little of the roofjunk will be added, and I'm sory if some of you don't like that, but in RL Massive fixture is on top of the building and it really ruins the whole feel for me, so I think I'll skip that part. If someone has compelling arguments why it should be there, I'm happy to hear them, and maybe, just maybe, if you're persuasive enough, I'll give in :P For now, the whole shabang:

It's a really beautiful piece :) congrats for this first result :).

If I've understand, the real roof junk are in ruins, maybe it could be cool if you modeled this part. This shows a slightly austere part we can find at New York City ;) . But it's your choice :) .

Anyway, I wait to see more about this BAT. Keep it up buddy ;)

    Aaron Graham: Thanks buddy!

Darknono35: Thank you Nono! Roofjunk is really messy imho and turns this building from elegant to shabby. I really don't know. Maybe later, when I'm near finish we can try and see how it's going to look like. Here's a real thing: http://binged.it/1bjDlDi

Anyhow, preliminary textures are on the building and I'm eager to hear what you think. I'll be further tweaking the all of the textures, but this is just so you have the idea in what direction I'm going. Please do comment and suggest whatever you think can/should be changed:

Is it possible to render it not only ortho but also to render it rotated to an angle in which, by rotatin manhattan to become north south grids according to simcity4, so that I can open it in PIMX, make it lets say 1x1 and plop it with the rotated angle? Im looking for this kind of very specific buidlings to fit a good as possible on my city recreation... maybe???  :D

Humm I like roof junk like this :D , but it's your BAT, and it will be awesome without this ugly HVAC ;)

Oh yeah, I love this one, and I can't wait to see the texturing finished :)

    Keep it up buddy

cmdp123789: I was thinking about that and I wanted to ask you guys who are recreating NYC for the advice at which angle should I rotate it so that it can be used in recreations properly. If anybody else knows something about this, pls tell me. As far as I know, there are only orthogonal, diagonal and fractional options. But we'll see, and whatever is needed for recreationists, I'll do it.

Aaron Graham: Thank you buddy! I hope I'll get better and better in Art Deco recreations :)

Darknono35: Nono, when I get near the finish line with this BAT, I'll make a decision about roof junk. But we're not there yet! Thank you and I hope you like this latest update.

So, I went trough agony with changing hues and getting the right brightness (darkness) of materials, but hopefully it looks better now. Here it is, 4 sides of z4 and 1 of z5 :)

More things left to do, mainly shops, spandrels between first two floors and glass.

    1930's pic:

    tumblrm5kyw59mdw1rrtakt.jpg

Quite appropriately, the roof seems to be topped by a mast.

    (From doitt map aerials):

Looking at 1951, the mast seems to remain in place, and no roof junk was added.

By 1996 an huge box was added on the top level, and some equipement on the small roof on the right.

By 2008 the box was removed, and the two vents which you can see on current bing maps aerial were put in it's place.

Roof objects on the small roof on the right appear to be more or less the same 2006-2013.

Looking at the 2006 pic it looks like a tar roof was installed (and it looked relatively new in 2006) - further pics (2008, 2010) show more signs of ageing.

EDIT:I've noticed my pic disappeared - reposted it, and while i was at it, i noticed this:

    Abbott%2BBdwy%2Bto%2Bthe%2BBattery%2B193

Nothing to do with the BAT, but i guess that 1930's pic are always a nice sight :).

Francis90b: Thank you Fran for that picture, this is the first time I see it. I'm not sure where you're going with the timeline of the changes made on top of the building, but I'd sure like to hear them, as well as your opinion on what you think would be appropriate for the top.

And sure, 1930s pics are always welcome in my threads, especially if they feature SS Normandie :)

    Darknono35: Thank you Nono!

Aaron Graham: Bump maps have been added to the glass and the ground map is changed, but I still think there's something missing.

cmdp123789: Imo I think it will fit if rendered diagonally. But please do ask around about it, and I will try to reach people who recreated NYC as well for their opinion.

    edwardjeria: Thanks!

    reaps: ty ;) lol

First of all, a thank you for someone is long overdue. Jasoncw has always been helping me with whatever I do. Whenever I'm stuck, in a rush, or a dead end, I go to him and he always helps me. He's a great friend and a masterful teacher. He helped me a lot with this building as well as all the previous I've done, and much of my achievements with this BAT are thanks to him, so thank you Jason!

As for the BAT, well the modeling part of this building is done (unless someone comes around at some moment giving me good reasons I should do huge HVACs on top). I did shops and entrance, added lamps which can't be seen, HVACs on the back, changed ground map, added bump maps, and tweaked materials. All in all I think it's a good change and apart from the glass which I still don't like, all else should be final.

That was just a list of changes i could observe by looking at aerial pics.

Knowing about the changes, and looking at how things actually looked like (i.e. looking at the pics) - may open more possibilites for you about how to exactly model the roof.

Your plans, as of now, are mostly about trying to avoid modelling HVAC units :P - but by looking at the pics you may find other things you may or may not want to do.

Given that you'd prefer not to work too much over the roof, i'd suggest 1951 appearence.

Looking amazing but I do feel more work is needed on the glass, it looks a little dark and flat..blinds and to be busier would help..other than that, superb!!!

SimCoug: There will be a diagonal version for sure. And I have made up my mind about the roof. It will feature antenna, as it did back in the day.

    sim_link: Thank you!

GeometryMath Algebra: errm, thank you. Not sure what that means tho :P

Darknono35: Thanks and I am working on getting those blinds.

edwardjeria: Thank you and yeah, I plan on shops being lit up at night.

Francis90b: sharp as always Fran, yeah, by now, as we discussed it in chat, you know that 1950s look will be done.

gutterclub: thank you and I am working on blinds and fixing the glass. I really suck at glass :P

    Jasoncw: awwww TY for all

Aaron Graham: it shall be done :P

Now, as you know by now, we have a special even this month -

I have started a new BAT to celebrate the event - a recreation of the Squibb Building from New York City, now known by its address 745 Fifth Avenue.

This is what I have so far:
